Historia
In Nero's Rome, Calandra helps her father, a renowned sculptor, complete the most significant commission of his illustrious career. But then a catastrophic fire nearly destroys the imperial city, leaving Calandra reliant on a group of Christians—unusual individuals unlike any she has encountered before. Intrigued by their worship of the Son of an invisible God, Calandra grapples with her mistrust, only to find herself indebted to these believers as they help her rebuild her shattered world.

I have to admit to struggling to get into this book a little. I am glad I stuck with it, though, as I now look forward to the next one in the series! The narration was very well done!

Well done all around!
Revisado: 03-15-25
I have to disagree with a couple of the reviews about this book. I, personally, think the narrator did an excellent job. I did have to slow the narration speed some, but I’d much prefer that than some of the slower narrators I’ve listened to. I knew who was speaking in each moment. I also greatly appreciate the Biblical references. They are not overdone at all. I also appreciate that there is a romantic interest, but the story does not focus on that. The mystery and main character development is the focus…keeping the typical cheesiness out of it the storyline. The threats are also more realistic than in many books of this genre. This is one of my favorite books so far by Carrie Stuart Parks.

Historia
Gwen Marcey has done a good job keeping the pain of her past boxed up. But as she investigates the case of a missing child in Lapwai, Idaho, details keep surfacing that are eerily similar to her childhood traumas. She doesn't believe in coincidences. So what's going on here? No one knows more about the impact of the past than the Nez Perce people of Lapwai. Gwen finds herself an unwelcome visitor to some, making her investigation even more difficult. The questions keep piling up, but answers are slow in coming - and the clock is ticking for a missing little girl.

Loved this series!
Revisado: 03-12-25
I have found a new author I love! The storylines in this series were each strong. I really am not a huge fan of the narrator. Her voice can be robotic and she reads in a way that makes the listener almost miss the awesome humor of the story. She also doesn’t distinguish between voices well enough to always know who is speaking. It appears that this is the main narrator for most of Carrie Stuart Parks’s books, though. I’ll probably still listen, but they would be SO MUCH better with a better narrator.

The plot line was very well written! I did figure out one of the “bad guys” early on, but the story kept me engaged in spite of that. The narration was good as well. I look forward to the next in the series and hope it isn’t long getting released!

Decent Storlines
Revisado: 03-02-25
These storylines were each a little different and not as fully predictable as a lot in this genre. However, the authors made the main characters seem a bit underqualified and unintelligent with their decisions. The main female characters were each a annoying in their decisions based on pride and independence. The narrators were ok, but distracting at points with their inability to really distinguish between voices. The narrator in the first book made 16 year old boys sound like 7 year olds. The last narrator was robotic and mispronounced many words making me grateful when the story ended.

Annoying main character and narrator
Revisado: 02-22-25
I have continued to see this author advertised so I thought to give this book a chance. The storyline could possibly have been decent, but the main female character is absolutely annoying. The narration doesn’t help.

Historia
From a USA Today bestselling author... Sam never understood why Eliza left him five years ago, ghosting him without explanation. He’s avoided romance ever since, focusing on building his business. Money might not keep him warm at night, but it can sure buy a lot of blankets. Then Eliza shows up on his doorstep and throws herself into his arms. She can’t explain her bruises or the head injury that’s left her with no memories of the past five years, including their breakup. No matter how good it feels to hold her, though, there’s no way he’s getting sucked into romance again. ...

Great storyline!!
Revisado: 01-29-25
Why would a great author like Robin Patchen be ok with her stories being narrated by AI?!? This had such great potential. It is a wonderful storyline that left me wanting to dive into the next book. But, the AI narration made it impossible at times to tell who was speaking. There was zero difference in voices and the emotion of moments was lost due to a lack of inflection. What a waste and just disappointing.

Great all the way around!
Revisado: 01-24-25
This book kept me fully engaged and I love how there was a focus on solving crime with a little bit of character self development. Sometimes the self development is overdone, but not in this story. It only enhanced the overall enjoyment. The narration was good as well.

Good storyline, very robotic narration
Revisado: 01-24-25
As usual, Eason has written a great storyline. However, the narration comes off very robotic. I did sort of get used to it, but it is so strongly robotic that I found myself double checking that this wasn’t narrated by AI. I feel the narrator caused me to miss the humor in certain areas and definitely kept me from relating more to the characters.
