Historia
Sienna Nealon is a woman with powers far beyond those of a normal human. As head of the unit in charge of policing others with abilities like hers, she has fought more battles than even she can count. But after a case gone bad, Sienna ends up suspended from her job, cooling her heels on Bayscape Island, a picturesque town in southern Lake Superior, seeking a peace that she finds illusive. For even on vacation nothing goes right for Sienna, and soon enough she's drawn into a mystery that sweeps away any hope of peace, replacing it with fear, distrust and a looming calamity that no one could ...

Good story line with familiar, well developed characters, as usual for this author.
Revisado: 08-02-24
Enjoyable story, action and suspense. But this is marred by "Virtual Voice" narration. Not actually robotic sound (only at times), voice actually uses inflection. But it's hard to distinguish which character is speaking, and affect is flat. Why not use one or more of the gifted actors who usually provide narration? Live narrators add dimension to story and characters, realistic reactions. This narration made the story boring, and I just wanted it to end. If this author continues to use Virtual Voice narration in following books, it's time to move on to another author and series. Too bad. I really enjoyed the established characters.

Reed Treston is a man without purpose. His war is over, his friends have left, and now he runs a lonely watch with his sister, policing people with powers beyond those of normal humans. When the government intercepts a message that has links to his past, Reed finds himself stirred into action. His path leads him across continents and through countless lies, to a city he has not seen in years - Rome, Italy - and a confrontation with a threat that could destroy a nation.

Poor narration overshadowed the book content.
Revisado: 07-27-24
I have enjoyed this entire series. Until now. Worst part was narration. This male narrator made Sienna sound like sound like a dull witted cartoon character. Most of the book was an almost constant solo diatribe from the Reed character. It made the story terribly boring and I couldn't wait for it to end. Almost abandoned the book several times. I didn't only because of the link to following books in the series. If this narrator is used in the remaining series, I'll stop reading and move on to something else.
All of the previous books in this series were great, with seamless narration. Hoping you won't use this narrator again!

Historia
Edgar Cayce—the 'Sleeping Prophet'—discovered his psychic gifts as a child while doing peculiar things like sleeping on his textbooks. When sick, Cayce would perform self-healing while hypnotized. His uncanny ability to diagnose and cure ailments turned him into a reluctant medical clairvoyant. He helped thousands, yet doctors, family, and investors looked to exploit his talents. Cayce fought to maintain virtue. He established a holistic hospital and pioneered integrative therapies still used today. However, his benefactor abandoned him at the onset of the Great Depression. Later, Cayce's ...

Great condensed version of Edgar Cayce's life and legacy
Revisado: 02-14-24
This was a great, condensed version of Edgar Cayce's life,
and a good review to remind me about his history. Story and narrator leave room for believers and skeptics. This will make you want to learn more and possibly read some of his works. Well done.

Historia
What begins as a typical day for Officer Bernadette Manuelito - serving a bench warrant, dealing with a herd of cattle obstructing traffic, and stumbling across a crime scene - takes an unexpected twist when she’s called to help find an old friend. Years ago, Bernie and Maya were roommates, but time and Maya’s struggles with addiction drove them apart. Now Maya’s brother asks Bernie to find out what happened to his sister. Tracing Maya’s whereabouts, Bernie learns that her old friend had confessed to the murder of her estranged husband, a prominent astronomer.

Great story and writing, but disliked narrator
Revisado: 03-11-23
Another great Chee and Leaphorn story from Anne Hillerman. Marred only by narrator's mispronunciations of native terms, including "Navajo"!
I winced each time he mispronounced Canyon de Chelly. If you are going to tell a story about indigenous people, at least have the respect to hire a native narrator. In this case, a Navajo narrator would have been preferable. Or at least another native person. There are many talented indigenous actors who could have done a much better job, and would have been respectful enough to get pronunciations correct. Canyon de Chelly is a sacred place much revered by Navajo and other native people, and deserves proper pronunciation.
Otherwise, this novel is well worth your time, especially if you are a fan of Tony and Anne Hillerman's writing and characters.

Koontz at his best!
Revisado: 02-05-23
Enjoyed this book for it's intelligence and sensitivity. Loved the idea of being able to increase, or tap into the intelligence of companion animals. But of course, this includes the temptation of greed and corruption. Fortunately, the main characters are able to maintain their kindness and appreciation for one particular animal, but at great cost to their family. A must read, especially if you like this author.

Loved the story development, twists and turns, and especially the unlikely protagonist, with no legal or criminal justice
training.
Only her patience, persistence, courage and intelligence could have solved such a complicated, nefarious case of serial murders.

Historia
We expect our judges to be honest and wise. Their integrity and impartiality are the bedrock of the entire judicial system. We trust them to ensure fair trials, to protect the rights of all litigants, to punish those who do wrong, and to oversee the orderly and efficient flow of justice. But what happens when a judge bends the law or takes a bribe? It’s rare, but it happens. Lacy Stoltz is an investigator for the Florida Board on Judicial Conduct. She is a lawyer, not a cop, and it is her job to respond to complaints dealing with judicial misconduct.

Loved this book!
Revisado: 12-17-22
This author never disappoints! Great story and narration. Historical fiction with focus on Japanese internment camps during WW II. An important part of WW II history that is often overlooked, due to atrocities of Hitler's concentration camps. Although Germany's concentration camps were clearly much worse, (no comparison) the US's Japanese internment camps were still a dark and shameful reflection on US treatment of Japanese nationals, many of whom were US citizens. Concurrent coming of age tale told with sensitivity and intelligence. Highly recommend.
