Well, stuck it out till the end, and it was amusing at times. But there wasn’t a single character that I liked enough to give a damn about, which makes for a very long tale.

Charmless and cliched. It was a free title and I still resent having it in my library.

While the reader is excellent, you’ll nonetheless want to assemble a printed list of the characters, and all relevant maps to really appreciate, nay, FOLLOW, the action. These books should bring particular pleasure to those who love both fantasy and military history.

Is this a children's book?

This read like a juvenile title. While I've read and enjoyed many children's books, I'd prefer to know what I'm buying at the time of purchase.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Bookseller's Tale to be better than the print version?

I would say both would be equally pleasurable, but the audio book is very easy listening, should you need easy listening while you multi-task.

What other book might you compare The Bookseller's Tale to and why?

Any number of cozy English mysteries, with its comforting setting of both home and shop, and its cast of very decent people who surround the main character--well, mostly decent; this is a murder mystery, after all.

What does Philip Battley bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Just a nice, unassuming British voice--unpretentious but more than capable of warmth.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I'd really rather not.

Any additional comments?

A pleasant entertainment. I'm ordering volume 2.

This is chapter from "The Rose and the Thorn," passed off as a unique short story. I asked for, and received, a refund.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

If someone fighting an illness or injury is helped by this recording, god bless them.

Any additional comments?

The entire narration is accompanied by lugubrious piano music. What's worse, this was originally a tape recording, and they didn't bother to clean it up before making the digital copy. What you're left with sounds like an old, worn tape; the music occasionally stretches, and goes off key, AND it's almost as loud as the voice it's supposed to accompany.

Would you consider the audio edition of Where Roses Never Die to be better than the print version?

No, though not because of the reader, who was fine.

Any additional comments?

Many, many Norwegian names to keep straight. Should you choose to listen to this book, be sure to have a print version to hand, or take notes as each character is introduced.

Would you try another book from Stephen Lawhead and/or Simon Bubb?

Not at out and out bad book; but continued listening just become a chore.

Has The Skin Map turned you off from other books in this genre?

The genre was not the problem.

Have you listened to any of Simon Bubb’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

The narrator was fine.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The premise was fine, the writing just wasn't compelling enough for me to want to continue.

Any additional comments?

No.

OK, they're Dresden stories read by James Marsters, so I bought them. The 3 stories are short, lightweight, and not particularly satisfying.
