Struggle to get through. Won’t finish the series
Revisado: 06-11-25
Although I won’t continue on with this series I can see why some people enjoy it. The story is refreshingly different. I just can’t stand some of the choices the characters make. They seems stupid and unlike themselves

Historia
Everyone loves Mathias. Naturally, when he discovers it’s his destiny to save the world, he dives in headfirst, pulling his best friend, Aaslo, along for the ride. However, saving the world isn’t as easy, or exciting, as it sounds in the stories. The going gets rough, and folks start to believe their best chance for survival is to surrender to the forces of evil, which isn’t how the prophecy goes. At all. As the list of allies grows thin and the friends find themselves staring death in the face, they must decide how to become the heroes they were destined to be.

Good story but kind of annoying
Revisado: 06-11-25
The mechanic of Aslo constantly muttering to Mathias and other people thinking he’s talking to them got old fast. Pacing is all over the place. Aslo seems to be a bit of a Mary Sue and just so happens to be good at everything. The storyline is interesting tho.

Good storyline but annoying all the way through
Revisado: 06-11-25
I was hoping that the annoying parts of the first book wouldn’t continue on into this one. Unfortunately the get even worse. Every single conversation with the prophet is the exact same conversation. What was somewhat of a fun gimmick of Aslo talking to Mathias became unbearable. Always talking to Mathias and other people hearing him is easily the worst part of this book. Just have Aslo think the thoughts! We is he constantly muttering them for everyone to hear. The pacing of this book is all over the place. Jumping from characters then leaving them for so long you forget what’s even going on with them. The story is good but man this was tough to get through

Historia
Rezkin is an elite warrior who aims to restore order in Ashai after Caydean's attack on the King's Tournament transformed former allies and trading partners into enemies. With no army and only a ragtag group of refugees, Rezkin must wrest control of the kingdom from the mad and powerful usurper, who seems bent on destruction, and this may not be the biggest challenge. If he fails, the kingdom will be ripped apart, and Rezkin will have violated Rule 1 - to protect and honor his friends.

Really enjoyed this book the most so far
Revisado: 03-12-24
I would have to say the first 1/2 to 2/3 of this book was awesome. I couldn’t stop listening to it. When they got to the island is where it slowed down for me. Back to the issues that could be addressed with a simple explanation but none was given. That theme appeared heavily in the first two books and I didn’t care for it. But the parts where Rez was in the city and had so many irons in the fire was awesome.

Good storyline for the most part, but…
Revisado: 02-06-24
Frisha is quite possibly the most annoying character in any book I’ve read. The storyline with her is drawn out and gets old fast. This whole simple misunderstandings between her and Rezkin is painful. Other than that I’m really enjoying the parts of the book that don’t contain her. Excited for book two.

Historia
Here is today's lesson; heroes die. It’s been 15 years since the Orcs were defeated. Fifteen years since a new king rose from the battlefield. Fifteen years since Illian knew the horror of war. Fifteen years of peace are about to end. Something is coming. Shadows gather. Whispers of rebellion have reached the king. Darkness stirs beyond Illian’s borders. Beyond the mountains, Dhenaheim has lost a quiet war. Refugees pour into Illian, bringing suspicion and unrest. For Doran Heavybelly, Dhenaheim's war means facing a personal tragedy that demands his attention...and his axe.

Good continuation of the story

I was worried at first with what will the big bad be in this first but it didn’t disappoint. I have to say Inara is pretty insufferable in this book. Which she might be written to be that way to draw out some emotion from the reader but her chapters I was struggling to get through. She’s very hypocritical and annoying in this book and I’m afraid it will remain that way moving forward

Historia
The scales have tipped. The battle for Namdhor, the north, and the entire realm of man was a sure victory for the orcs. But they lost. Now, under the rule of a would-be-king, the armies of man fuel the war when they should be bolstering their defenses. Only a few understand that time is against them, yet these few must fight alone if the dawn is to rise over Illian once more. The heroes of the realm have banded together, but they cannot fight side by side. There is only one way they can win, seen by the oldest dragon and preserved inside the broken mind of a ranger.

Orcs, an ancient fiend thought lost to history, have risen from The Under Realm. Their hunger for total dominance has plunged Illian into war, pushing the survivors to Namdhor, the last refuge of man at the top of the world. For those who stand up to this foe, they do so in darkness. Ash clouds smother the skies, blocking out the sun as the orcs rampage across the land.
