Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

A sweet easy story
Revisado: 01-18-25
This story shows how different people handle the death of a loved one. Tova grieved the death of her husband and son and kept busy by working. Cameron grieved the loss of not knowing what happened to his mother and not knowing who his father was. Marcellous grieved the loss of his freedom and was counting down the days to his demise. Cameron's personality was one of someone who really needed to mature and grow. He needed love and acceptance and was really affected by his mistakes he made in life. Marcellous was very instinctive in finding his way about the aquarium and seemed to realize what Cameron and Tova's relationship was.

They were playmate kink partners at the Dungeon for a year. Just when Sinclair Develin wanted to take their relationship outside of the link club, Evan ghosted him. He could not get her out of his mind and she couldn't stop thinking of him. Their chance meeting at a wedding restarted the flame between them. Now Evangeline needed the fixer's help. Sin was determined to clear Evan's name since he interfered with her investigation. They worked well together and they both found themselves opening up to each other about their fears and nightmares. Sin was determined not to let Evan get away from him this time. With the case of Uncle Charlie solved, they could get on with their lives together.
Boy, the author wrote an amazing dramatic mystery that took unexpected curves in the plot. I figured out who Uncle Charlie was but didn't expect the depths that that mystery took.

Historia
Corruption runs rampant even in a not-so-distant future where the biggest lottery is rigged so that the only winners are rich and white. In a world that has been ravaged by a destructive alien attack, an opportunity for a lifetime of riches in exchange for serving as consort to one of the alien defenders is indeed a great prize. Down on her luck, Karma will be the first Black consort, despite believing that being an alien's whore is only slightly better than being one for humans.

Consorts and aliens
Revisado: 11-03-24
Karma was living in survival mode. Her chance to get out of the poverty she lived by being forced to take the place of a consort was a no-brainer. If she refused, she would be dead, so she leaped at the chance. It was an eye-opening event for Karma. Her mated Galatian consort Rafe Sigur also learned some things from her. They both learned from each other. Rafe learned that the Galatain Consort exchange was riffed with embezzlement and poor management. Karma was just thrown into the consortium and had to learn from the bottom. Her relationship with sister consort Madeline proved to be helpful. All in all, Karma never forgot where she came from and was determined to share her fortune with the poor. But there are many things that both Rafe and Karma have to learn about each other's culture.
I first read this story through Kindle Vella. I am glad the author is making it available in ebook form. The narrators Simone Rothschild and Steven Jay Cohen did an excellent job of making the story come to life. I'm looking forward to future books.,

Historia
Thirty years ago, Amelia Vaux Tanner and her husband built a house high on the bluffs, a cottage they named Chateau Laveau. For decades, “Ama” played host to American presidents, Wall Street titans, and cultural icons. But her favorite guests have always been her three “goddaughters”: Esperanza “Perry” Soto, a beautiful, talented Afro-Latina lawyer with Ama’s strong, yet guarded personality; Olivia Jones, a gifted Wall Street analyst with Ama’s brilliant, logical mind; and Billie Hayden, a gifted marine biologist and rule-breaker with Ama’s courageous free spirit.

An enjoyable story
Revisado: 10-30-24
This story was well plotted with lots of drama and mystery fused in. Everyone has secrets they hold, even Amma. She escaped her life in Louisiana for a better way. She found it with hard work in New York's financial district and the lover of her life Omar Tanner. Through all of her hard work, she neglected to become a mother. But she fulfilled that destiny by mentoring Perry, Olivia, and Billy. These three girls had more in common than they knew. The only person who had the keys to their past was Ama. These girls spent every summer with Ama and Omar at Chateau Laveau and treated each other like sisters until adulting got in the way. Each one of them had their own adult problems they all needed to work through. Even Ama had to work through her life as a widow and try to gauge when was the right time to reveal the things she knew about each girl.
This was a very well done story that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Definetly their destiny
Revisado: 10-03-24
This was a sweet forbidden romance. Both Kyle and Tola were strong and stubborn lovers having to breach the constraints of a royal culture. Tola had to find a way to beak her contractual betrothal to another spoiled brat royal who was not worthy of her. She hated that she was the only one of her father's children to bring about a royal bloodline. She wanted to marry for love not duty. Kyle fell for her the minute he saw her. She gave him the reason to ditch his overbearing girlfriend who didn't get the hint.
Tola came up with a solution to give her father a royal heir and be able to marry the man she loved. It almost took her life but the man she loved and who loved her was the only one to bring her back from the edge so they can have their HEA.

Historia
When he falls ill on his way home from school, 15-year-old Michael Berg is rescued by Hanna, a woman twice his age. In time she becomes his lover--then she inexplicably disappears. When Michael next sees her, he is a young law student, and she is on trial for a hideous crime. As he watches her refuse to defend her innocence, Michael gradually realizes that Hanna may be guarding a secret she considers more shameful than murder.

Not my cup of tea!
Revisado: 09-11-24
Fifteen-year-old Michael Berg's relationship with 36-year-old Hanna Schmitz was a trope that was triggering to me. However, this book was about a lifelong love of Michael for Hanna that affected his entire adult life. Even after she mysteriously disappeared. Hanna had to deal with her work as a concentration camp guard. Her limited education forced her to work wherever she could find work. That resulted in her having to do things as a guard which probably worked on her conscience.
As an adult, Michael later found Hanna as a defendant of her guard crimes. His remembrance of his time with her kept him in contact with her but not communicating with her for years. I was shocked at the outcome of her life, the day before she was released from prison after eighteen years. I guess she could not bear leaving the safety of prison. I was not expecting that at all.
NOTE: This book was a book of the month read for a book club. I would not have chosen to read this book personally.

Historia
Ridley Wells is done with men. All she wants is to focus on her dream of opening her own nursery, but she has the opposite of a green thumb when it comes to love. She’s always been the “good twin” who played by all the rules waiting for Prince Charming to show up. Instead she is currently in hiding from her latest case of bad judgment. So when there’s a teeny tiny case of mistaken identity, for once she decides to do the “wrong” thing.

Well written dramtic romance
Revisado: 08-20-24
Jackson was set on ever falling in love again after the death of his wife. He blamed himself for that and could not bear the thought of falling in love with another person and having them taken away. That was how he felt when Ridley literally fell into his life. But she was hiding some life-saving information from him. They were falling fast, but the real Ridley was something he did not know if he could handle. He blamed himself for not trusting in her, but in the end, he was able to be there for her. His brothers had his back and helped him get his girl back.
Ridley's sister Raina was a whole different matter. The twins could not have been any different from each other. Ridley was sweet and caring whereas her sister Raine was self-absorbed. But, the sisters did love each other.
The Alexander family was a tight-knit family of boys with parents who were thoroughly in love with each other. The kind of love that you just wanted "one more day" with each other.

Historia
It is 1940 and a tragedy sends Lou and her little brother, Oz, along with their invalid mother, from New York City to the rugged mountains of Southwest Virginia to live with their great-grandmother. The story is told with both heartbreaking elegance and large doses of touching humor as the lives of Lou and Oz are changed forever.

A well written book
Revisado: 08-16-24
The author wrote a compelling heart-wrenching story about a family when tragedy strikes. Lou and Oz's life is turned upside down when their father, famous author Jack Cardinal, is killed in an auto accident that disables their mother. Their adjustment to farm life in the rural mountains of Virginia with their great-grandmother is a new learning experience for them. They are forced to grow up fast in order to survive a totally different way of life than one living in New York City. Lou is a smart, no-hold-barred adolescent who protects her younger brother Oz. They experience a different culture than what they are used to. They desperately want their mother to return to them and have hope that one day she will. More tragedy strikes when their great-grandmother is taken away and big business is using underhanded legal means to steal the farm and the whole town is against them. Their sacrificial donation at the wishing well has come true. All of their hopes and dreams are realized with the help of family friends Eugene and Cotton Longfellow.

Historia
The most toxic racial arguments share one of five traits. They try to erase Black history, prioritize white victimhood, deny Black oppression, promote myths of Black inferiority, or rebrand racism as something else entirely. They’re all designed to distract society from racial justice, but now we have the tools to debunk them.

A very eye opening discussion
Revisado: 07-24-24
Keith Boykin takes 25 arguments on race and prejudice and delivers a very intelligent and rational discussion on how and why this opinion came about through history and his own personal life experiences. I learned a lot of information, some I knew already and a lot I did not. His time frame from 1619 to the present at the beginning of the book gives a rundown of race and prejudice and is worth the book by itself.
I highly recommend this book and would encourage everyone to read it.

Both Len and Sebastian were liars of omission. Each had their reason for hiding the truth of who and what they were. Despite this they managed to fall in love with each other so now they had to figure out when and how to tell each other the truth.
The author wrote a very romantic tale about two different people coming from different backgrounds but from the same island. Now we have to wait to read the next nook to find out what will happen to Sebastian and Len
