Historia
Tracing the career of a writer of uncertain parentage and omnivorous erotic tastes, Answered Prayers careens from a louche bar in Tangiers to a banquette at La Côte Basque, from literary salons to high-priced whorehouses. It takes in calculating beauties and sadistic husbands along with such real-life supporting characters as Colette, the Duchess of Windsor, Montgomery Clift, and Tallulah Bankhead. Above all, this malevolently funny book displays Capote at his most relentlessly observant and murderously witty.

Warning: Audible has heavily censored this book.
Revisado: 04-04-25
There are BLEEPS throughout this book, places in the recording where Audible has censored ‘naughty’ words and phrases that it doesn’t want us full-grown adults to hear. This BLEEPing-out even includes whole sentences! Some of these BLEEPS are apparently the N-slur that we daily hear uncensored in every other rap song. And yet Audible thinks it’s perfectly fine for us to hear other slurs like ‘queer’ and ‘Mick (Irish) which are UN-censored here. If you want this book, don’t buy it here on Audible — unless you want to be treated like a delicate child, and have parts of the book removed ‘for your protection’.

Historia
Gender identity ideology is about more than Twitter storms and using the right pronouns. In just 10 years, laws, company policies, school and university curricula, sport, medical protocols, and the media have been reshaped to privilege self-declared gender identity over biological sex. People are being shamed and silenced for attempting to understand the consequences of redefining "man" and "woman". While compassion for transgender lives is well-intentioned, it is stifling much-needed inquiry into the significance of our bodies.

If you read only one book on this subject, TRANS is the one.
Revisado: 11-02-22
This is THE book to read if you want to get to the truth of this subject. In TRANS, author Helen Joyce cuts through all the disinformation, science-denying and emotionalism, and gives us Just The Facts. Helen Joyce, a seasoned and respected journalist from The Economist, writes in a clear, accessible and honest style, free of jargon, emotionalism, obfuscation and politics. TRANS should be required reading for every politician and policy maker, every student, every parent, and anybody who is concerned about this most critical issue of our time. Read it, share it. If you read only one book on this subject, TRANS by Helen Joyce is the one book to read.

He sat down with the experts and asked them directly. Join Matt on his often comical yet deeply disturbing journey as he answers the question generations before us never knew they needed to ask: What is a woman?

An urgently important book that I urge everyone to read now.
Revisado: 07-12-22
This is a well-researched, well-written, and well-narrated book. Its message is urgently important and should be required reading for every child, woman and man in the land. There is no more important subject today, and the author covers it thoroughly. Other books on the subject, which I also highly recommend, are:
TRANS: When Ideology Meets Reality, by Helen Joyce
Material Girls: Why Reality Matters for Feminism, by Professor Kathleen Stock
The Abolition of Sex: How the "Transgender" Agenda Harms Women and Girls, by Kara Dansky
Unsporting: How Trans Activism and Science Denial are Destroying Women's Sport, by Linda Blade
The End of Gender: Debunking the Myths about Sex and Identity in Our Society, by Dr. Debra Soh

Historia
Most Americans do not understand the real threat that the “transgender” agenda, or the so-called “gender identity” movement, poses to all of us—especially women and girls—nor do they understand the extent to which it is taking over US law and civil society. The simple truth is that “gender identity” functions to abolish sex, and all of our civic institutions—government, media, academia, and business—have been completely captured by it.

Revisado: 05-25-22
In this well-researched and clearly-reasoned book, the author lays out exactly what dangers we are all in from the “trans” agenda— and it is worse than you thought. This book should be required reading, especially for women, girls as well as all parents. If you think you won’t be profoundly affected by the “trans” agenda, you already are affected, it’s worse than you thought, and it’s about to get much worse. Be afraid, be very afraid. Then get angry and buy this book! This is a book to be shared with friends and family, and one that will arm us with enough facts to start making noise and taking action!

Revisado: 04-28-22
There are much better books on this worthy topic. Funnily enough, the author herself names three of them in her first chapter. Those three books are:
The Madness of Crowds
Cynical Theories
The Coddling of the American Mind
In addition, I’ll also add these excellent books on the topic:
Woke Racism
Trans, by Helen Joyce
Material Girls, by Kathleen Stock
The End of Gender
Stupid Black Men
White Guilt
As for this book, Actively Unwoke, it is far less authoritative and less scholarly than the other books recommend above. This book is more of a rant, a rant I wholeheartedly agree with, but a rant nonetheless. And although this book is not written from a religious or Christian perspective, it is not helped by a narrator who sounds like every angry church lady you’ve ever met. That’s unfortunate, because I so wanted to like and endorse this book. Great title, great intentions, but there’s nothing here that isn’t given better and more thorough coverage in the books recommend above.

7hours & 25 minutes of baby talk
Revisado: 04-19-22
Good luck if you can listen through 7 hours & 25 minutes of the narrator’s babydoll voice, which, together with a depressing and often-whiney story of mental breakdown, makes this an audiobook to be endured rather than enjoyed. And the word “poems” is mispronounced as “pomes” about sixty thousand times throughout the narrative — like fingernails on a blackboard.

It is 1868, and a 22-year-old Bram Stoker has locked himself inside an abbey's tower to face off against a vile and ungodly beast. He is armed with mirrors and crucifixes and holy water and a gun - and is kept company by a bottle of plum brandy. His fervent prayer is that he will survive this one night - a night that will prove to be the longest of his life.

Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta.' Determined to possess his 'Lolita' both carnally and artistically, Humbert embarks on a disastrous courtship that can only end in tragedy.

Dazzling. One of the few true masterpieces of literature.
Revisado: 02-10-22
Lolita deserves multiple readings, and I say ‘readings’ because after you listen to this masterful, pitch-perfect performance by Jeremy Irons, you’ll want to marvel at Nabokov’s spellbinding words on the printed page, and you’ll see how much you missed. It’ll be like reading the book for the first time. I highly recommend The Annotated Lolita, which reveals so many more layers to this intricately crafted tale. Lolita is tragedy, parody, laugh out loud comedy, a marvelous road trip, a massive word game, and one of the most moving love stories of all time. I can’t recommend any book more highly than Lolita.

Revisado: 07-20-21
There are a rare few books that everyone ‘needs’ to read today: this is one of them.
The End of Gender, by neuroscientist and sexologist, Debra Soh PhD, holds many of our present-day assumptions up to the light of science. If we are to survive this age in which biological sex is conflated with ‘gender’, or erased altogether, we need more voices of reason like Dr Soh. Her logic, compassion and liberalism fly in the face of the trans extremists and SJWs who will nevertheless accuse her of being phobic or sexist. Read this book, or listen to her clear-voiced reading of it in audio format, and dare to challenge your presumptions.

In The Madness of Crowds Douglas Murray investigates the dangers of ‘woke’ culture and the rise of identity politics. In lively, razor-sharp prose he examines the most controversial issues of our moment: sexuality, gender, technology and race, with interludes on the Marxist foundations of ‘wokeness’, the impact of tech and how, in an increasingly online culture, we must relearn the ability to forgive.

I read this book in hard copy and then immediately listened to the author’s excellent reading in the audiobook. It’s that good. No other author so clearly explains the current collective madness that’s tearing western societies apart. This book deserves to be shared and reread, before it’s too late.
