The stories were nice and cozy. But the Virtual Voice was distracting.
Revisado: 12-31-24
The story was entertaining. I enjoyed the characters, interactions and dialogue. Except the Southern detective used “you all” way too much. And it should have been “y’all” at least part of the time. . Several times in a sentence is not normal. I have lived in the South as a Northerner, and I have never heard anything like it. It was very disturbing.
The narration was awkward. Such as no pause at the end of sentences, let alone chapters and Reading “us” as “U.S.” There were other mispronunciations that took a minute to decipher.
There was some variation in inflections, but several required thought to interpret what was supposed to have happened , such as situations where a phrase was repeated by another character responding with surprise or such. It was often steamrolled past, so the effect was lost.
I hope the AI will improve with feedback and tweaking over time. This is the second VV narrated book I have listened to; the other had some of the same issues. I hope this new format won’t be used for all books “included in membership.”
I still enjoyed the series, and would recommend it to others as cozy mysteries. Maybe it won’t bother other listeners as much.

Historia
Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Surêté du Québec and his team of investigators are called in to the scene of a suspicious death in a rural village south of Montreal. Jane Neal, a local fixture in the tiny hamlet of Three Pines, just north of the U.S. border, has been found dead in the woods. The locals are certain it’s a tragic hunting accident and nothing more, but Gamache smells something foul in these remote woods, and is soon certain that Jane Neal died at the hands of someone much more sinister than a careless bowhunter.

Slow start, then the twists & turn kick in and the tempo & tension builds
Revisado: 11-19-24
I liked the way the characters are introduced & fleshed out as the story progresses. Armand, the inspector, is sharp but compassionate. His style is usually subtle, but he is also fallible. His interactions with his subordinates makes me wish he was my boss. I recommend this book who is interested in solving mysteries, but not into stark violence or gore. Definitely found edge of your seat moments.

Historia
Cal's "honeymoon" didn't start off quite how he'd planned. For starters, he was heading somewhere he didn't actually want to go. And secondly, he was going alone and unmarried. He had no idea that his first visit to New York City would also land him in the middle of a domestic terror attack, forcing him to flee Manhattan in a desperate bid to survive. This was no ordinary terror attack. The Movement, in a misguided attempt to seize political control of the USA, unwittingly invited the destruction of their homeland.

Intense!
Revisado: 09-26-24
The story starts as a depressed, fish out of water Brit in New York on his prepaid “ honeymoon“ sans bride. He witnesses a strange event while on Wall Street, and we are taken through one tense event after another from there, meeting several other characters, seeing the unfolding events from their viewpoints. Each vignette builds interest and anxiety from the beginning. I warn you that this ends with a cliffhanger, but I was ready for a short break to relax my tension a bit. I am now going to get the next book in the series to find out what happens next!

When a Category 5 hurricane is poised to hit their coastal Florida town, the Davies family takes refuge in their waterfront manse. Marlowe, Lee, and their teenage twins invite their close friends to wait out the storm in comfort and style. Uninvited are the three strangers who dock on the family’s shore right before the storm descends. Brothers Jason and Bo—and Bo’s girlfriend, Darcy—are a charming, helpful trio in need of a safe haven that the Davies are only too happy to provide. But as the storm outside grows more threatening, so does the tension in the house.

Full of surprises and twists!
Revisado: 09-24-24
The story starts off anxious due to the incoming severe weather. But everything is under control. Then the visitors arrive as the hurricane hits, and everything spins faster and faster from there! I couldn’t stop listening until the end! Got chores done, but stayed up way too late to see what would happen. There is violence but not gore, Secrets come to light and the characters grow stronger through the ordeal. Like I said before: I could not turn it off. The good news is that not everyone dies. 😳🙂

Wow! Intense & entertaining
Revisado: 06-07-24
Quite a story! The narrative pulled me right in. I started listening on a night time drive, the character’s experiences were so spooky , and their emotions were so intense. I stopped listening about 4 episodes in & finished in the bright sunshine the next day. It doesn’t exactly have a happy ending, but it was very satisfying. I recommend this to anyone who loves ghost stories!

Great story! Full of suspense.
Revisado: 04-28-24
I enjoyed the whole presentation. I did have some trouble keeping some of the characters straight at times, but it was due to my lack of experience with Asian Indian accents, though reviewing the passages a second time cleared things up. There were surprises at many points, and the use of flashbacks and multiple storytellers kept me interested and entertained. I listened to the whole story in less than 2 days despite having a busy schedule. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys mysteries with historical undertones.

Definitely appeals to me as a midwesterner.
Revisado: 02-03-24
Small town guy with a flawed but loving family & community. He isn’t perfect, but Cork has a way of looking at things & thinking, & the tenacious approach to problems that often gets him in trouble, but causes the culprit to trip up & get caught/receive justice. I just stumbled across this series this week (Jan 2025). I have listened to the 1st 3 books in 4 days. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series & plan to acquire them all! David Chandler is a great narrator. I only had 1 or 2 issues discerning who was speaking. He does a great job presenting WK Kreuger’s story, emotions & suspense. I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a good yarn!

An amazing series, I highly recommend this series!
Revisado: 01-26-23
This is one of the very few series I have committed to listening to all in a row! All are based on the same underlying rules, and a happily ever after, which I love. Mr Inmon is consistent so far, and each story is individual enough to keep me interested. I am so glad Audible has these available.
In some series, a change in narrator is disappointing, but each story, though related to other stories, doesn’t depend on a single voice. Mr Thurston brings out character personality and differentiates between inner and outer voices in this book very well, as have all the others so far.
Do yourself a favor and invest some time in this series!
