Historia
When Muslim fundamentalists blow up a key Soviet oil complex, making an already critical oil shortage calamitous, the Russians figure they are going to have to take things into their own hands. They plan to seize the Persian Gulf, and more ambitiously, to neutralize NATO. Thus begins Red Storm, an audacious gamble that uses diplomatic maneuver to cloak a crash military build-up.

Compelling book, though NATO/CIA apolagia
Revisado: 05-30-24
This book is very compelling and entertaining, but the cause of the war is now sort of absurd given modern understanding of CIA activities with the Mujahideen. The Soviets invade NATO because their whole society is running out of oil because Mujahideen insurgents destroy a critical oil facility, and NATO doesn't know why the war began because the Soviets successfully hide that problem from the world. What we now know is that the CIA, with Pakistani and Saudi intelligence agencies, were directly ordering Mujahideen fighters to target Siberian and Central Asian infrastructure, which thankfully never amounted to anything because that would be an act of war. NATO would absolutely know what they did to the Soviets because in reality they ordered the attacks to happen.
Not that the author would necessarily know that when the book is written, but it was always sort of absurd to assume that the Mujahideen were acting independently if they managed to trek through to Siberia to attack an oil facility. You might bring up the 9/11 attacks to refute that, saying that it is possible for independent insurgents to pull off something like this, but we also now know per a wonderful Atlantic article published this year (2024) that Saudi intelligence is responsible for planning and assisting those attacks as well.
A better version of this would involve at least accusations against Pakistan at the very least, as the Mujahideen and later the Taliban are their doing primarily, the CIA and Saudis mostly just bankrolled the project, and even then decades after Pakistan started fostering insurgencies in Afghanistan for the sake of destabilizing Afghanistan because of their relationship with the Pashtun people.

Historia
This is the book that dares to show us the military hardware, global upheavals, and raw combat a second Korean War would unleash. How F-16s would blast across the 38th Parallel. How ultra-modern submarines would vie for the seas. And how two armies would turn the snowfields of Asia red with blood. A thundering geopolitical thriller of vast scope, this is Red Phoenix - and a new standard for military/political suspense fiction.

Good book, good performance, glitchy though
Revisado: 10-17-22
I am enjoying the book but it regularly has fits of static. I'm sure there are better versions out there.

Historia
A decade after the cold war ended, policy makers and academics foresaw a new era of peace and prosperity, an era in which democracy and open trade would herald the "end of history." The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, sadly shattered these idyllic illusions, and John Mearsheimer's masterful new book explains why these harmonious visions remain utopian.

Horrifying, Astounding, Uncomfortably Revealing!
Revisado: 11-22-20
I was almost totally ignorant of the JFK conspiracies before reading, but was curious and wasn't one of the types of people that believes official stories implicitly especially considering the abuse of public confidence that news media is engaged in around the recent election cycles. After reading about 10 chapters in I became extremely depressed. 10/10 a great read and a compelling performance by the narrator.
