Historia
Based on the true story of Alexander Selkirk, who survived alone for almost five years on an uninhabited island off the coast of Chile, The Mysterious Island is considered by many to be Jules Verne’s masterpiece. “Wide-eyed mid-nineteenth-century humanistic optimism in a breezy, blissfully readable translation by Stump” (Kirkus Reviews), here is the enthralling tale of five men and a dog who land in a balloon on a faraway, fantastic island of bewildering goings-on and their struggle to survive....

Perhaps Verne's Best! A Suspenseful Techno Thriller
Revisado: 10-11-24
Narrator was good. not fantastic but quite good enough. Story suspenseful enough to keep you going, but slow enough to be relaxing. Perfect 1800 British Literature. You will not regret putting this on!!

Interesting Stories, Thin Sketches, Patchy Perform

Could be great, but thinly written and very patchy performance with narrator awkwardly interspersed with bursts of dramatization.

Mediocre Performance of One of the Best Books Ever
Revisado: 10-25-22
This is such an amazingly powerful book. Lifted up, encouraged, and challenged every time. I try to read it regularly, but with little time for reading, I got the audio book. It's good, the story is all there, but the narrator's accent is a little weird at times (is it put on for the story?), and there are a few little blips in quality and tone. Worth having for sure, but feel like this book deserves a more stellar performance.

Thoughtful short story
Revisado: 04-08-22
A bit slow and a bit hard to follow. Narrator's accent very strong, but usually still pretty easy to understand. A sort of mystery story that runs surprisingly slowly. Well crafted, but very sad.

Historia
Before men ruled the earth, there were wolves. Once abundant in North America, these majestic creatures were hunted to near extinction in the lower 48 states by the 1920s. But in recent decades, conservationists have brought wolves back to the Rockies, igniting a battle over the very soul of the West. With novelistic detail, Nate Blakeslee tells the gripping story of one of these wolves, O-Six, a charismatic alpha female named for the year of her birth.

Wandering but Worthwhile and Beautiful Story
Revisado: 04-02-22
Story especially at beginning moves around a lot in time, and doesn't follow Oh-six much. It's a bit confusing and a little frustrating, but maybe about 1/3 of the way through, weren't caught up on everything and then the story is rhythmic and engrossing. A beautiful story about wolves and people, and an enlightening look at the workings in the background.

Historia
War and Peace is at once an epic war chronicle and an exploration of everything that make us all human: love and hate, ambition and despair, life and death. Allow yourself to get lost in the lives of three Russian aristocratic families, whose triumphs and challenges are every bit as resonant to today’s listener as they were to original readers. Thandiwe Newton inhabits each character with such flair that it is easy to forget that you are listening to one voice.

Worth it all!
Revisado: 02-23-22
Performance MADE this book! I can't say enough about the women's ability to have appropriate voices for every single character (which always perfectly fit the written description of their voice and inflection), and her ability to act, especially trying to speak through crying. INCREDIBLE!!
For the story, the narrative parts with the characters, though slow, were engrossing and soon captivating! And the first epilogue a frosting on the cake. The parts of the story where Tolstoy talked about the philosophy of history were less interesting and it was hard to find the point or how it related to the characters. The second epilogue was really rough!
I've loved every piece of Russian literature I've read and this was no exception. I feel that I learned so much about myself and the world! I wish all my family and friends could listen through it! It's also really fascinating to hear about the Nepoleanic wars from the Russian perspective.

Historia
It's been centuries since the robots of Panga gained self-awareness and laid down their tools; centuries since they wandered, en masse, into the wilderness, never to be seen again; centuries since they faded into myth and urban legend. One day, the life of a tea monk is upended by the arrival of a robot, there to honor the old promise of checking in. The robot cannot go back until the question of "what do people need?" is answered. But the answer to that question depends on who you ask, and how.

Lovely Story, Beautifully Performed
Revisado: 11-18-21
This story is a bit slow in starting, but good even in that time, and totally worth the wait!!! I will definitely be listening to this again and really want my friends to hear it.
Pros: gentle and very thought-provoking, good world building, excellent narration well fitted to book's style.
Cons: occasional though regular f-bombs were jarring and took me out of the story, a few sections of the narration had a different tone like they were recorded later and pasted in, took a bit to get used to "they" used for the main character.

Constantly Evolving Story with Rich Performance
Revisado: 11-05-21
This story continuously grew as I listened. I'm trying not to give any spoilers, but it was a great crescendo. The only negative for me was that it did start kind of slow, and left you in the dark about why the villains were doing what they were doing.
The full cast always kept it very clear and they did a beautiful job with some complex parts. The background sound was great and really made it vivid.
Story has a bit of language, but not too bad.
I really really hope they make the sequel.

Beautifully done. Included all the important moments and favorite lines. Also included stuff I've been told the movies skip, so cudos to them for synthesizing so well. I love it!
