Took a while to get into
Revisado: 10-15-24
First, you can drink every time the word ‘calories’ is mentioned. It is a lot. The book is depressing but eventually picks up. You do find yourself guessing, as well as questioning your own existence. This is not my normal read, but it gave me a lot to think about. I am glad I read it.

An epic tale of an unrecognized black fashion designer
Revisado: 09-03-24
I devoured this book. It is well read and the people she meets and gets to design for is just amazing. It is frustrating that she was not recognized for the people who she designed for because she was black. Mi cant wait to go google her designs so I can see them. Someone should make a film about this woman.

Do not skip this book!
Revisado: 12-07-23
There are some reviewers here that encourage you to “skip this book…it’s only letters”. No, it is not “only letters”. She is writing to Gilbert about her adventures away, and they are every bit as Anne with an E can stumble into! It took a little to get into the new characters, but I think that is the fault of the narrator, she makes almost every other character that is older than Anne sound like a grumpy old lady. But I enjoyed the stories of Katherine and Elizabeth, and Anne teaching at a school who is attended heavily by a large extended family. I was sad to have it end, I wanted more.

DON’T BUY THE AUDIOBOOK, BUY THE BOOK. SAVE YOUR EARS.
Revisado: 04-21-23
I cannot stress ENOUGH that the author being the narrator DESTROYS this book. It is the worst book I have LISTEN to. The book itself, is excellent. It is a SHAME audible does not insist on re-recording this book. The author does not read this in a way that makes it easy to discern between dialog between characters, there is a flat affect when excitement or suspense could be added. I kept saying to myself “is this how the author hears it in her head?”. THIS BOOK WOULD HAVE BETTER RATINGS IF AUDIBLE RE-RECORDED THIS WITH A DIFFERENT NARRATOR. It is that bad, sometimes sentences run into each other, the cadence is horrible. It was painful to have to endure this book, as short as it was, knowing the story was very compelling. Do yourself (and your ears) a favor and buy the physical book. This will be a wasted purchase until Audible changes the narrator from Freda Jackson.

She's a poor farmer's daughter with nowhere to go and nothing in her pockets. But the other woman with the same name has vanished, and pretending to be her just might get Clara some money to send back home.

Understanding that this is a work of historical fiction, I understand why it ended the way it did. But this left me wanting more, and it was superbly written. I thoroughly enjoyed this and plan on enjoying more by this author.

Historia
Meet Ove. He’s a curmudgeon—the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness. So when one November morning a chatty young couple with two chatty young daughters move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove’s mailbox, it is the lead-in to a comical and heartwarming tale of unkempt cats, unexpected friendship, and the ancient art of backing up a U-Haul.
