Historia
Solving crimes at a crusty old Florida inn was NOT in D.C. urbanite Lilly Livingston’s 5 yr plan. But when she discovers she is the executor of a forgotten stepfather’s will and is gifted Magnolia Manor, in little Drifter’s Cove, Florida, things get a little off track. The town coroner reports her stepfather died of natural causes, but Lilly is not convinced and joins a motley crew of locals to solve her first case. Leaving D.C. for good, Lilly’s excited to start her new small-town life and reopen the inn. But, a murder at the grand opening of her newly inherited inn wasn’t ...

Historia
Detective Sergeant Chris Waters got the call at 05.29 that July morning. This is it, said DCI Reeve, you'll be first there, it's all yours, you're the crime scene manager. Suddenly, after months of waiting and wondering, Waters finds himself in at the deep end, and alone at the scene of a puzzling murder. As the investigation proceeds, the detectives at Kings Lake Central find themselves visiting familiar places and talking to some familiar faces, while old enmities reappear in the incident room. Before this is over, Chris Waters will need to make a career-changing decision.

This is the first book in a new series featuring DC Smith’s detective team, now that he’s retired.
Revisado: 04-15-24
I have come to love the cast of characters and I am enjoying this new series. In fact this was the first Peter Granger book I bought. I enjoyed it then, but of course there were some sub references that were a bit mysterious at the time. Having now read all of the other stories, I enjoyed it even more rereading it in the proper sequence.

Historia
Jo told him the phone call had been about a woman who wanted to have her husband declared dead. Smith thought for a moment and then said, 'Hmm. There must be a few million women in this country who feel like that. I take it her husband's been missing for a while and she's decided it's time to move on. In the absence of a body, which is always a nuisance, she wants Diver and Diver to confirm there's no proof he's alive. And I've told Jason a dozen times I'm not getting involved in anything matrimonial. I have enough trouble sorting out my own relationships.'

I like the logical development of the case using proper police procedures. I recommend this and the other books in the series.

Historia
Two weeks of rest and recuperation - that's what the doctor ordered. Detective Sergeant DC Smith could listen to some music, make some of his own, and maybe even catch up on his reading; he is almost looking forward to it. And then there is a knock on the door. It's only his next-door neighbor, but it is the beginning of a sequence of events that will bring him face to face with some of the darkest episodes and the most dangerous people from his own past.

Revisado: 03-18-24
I don’t like stories about the troubles in Belfast. I read this book only because it is part of the series. It is okay but the least interesting of the 8 episodes I have read so far.

Historia
In the peace and tranquility of the woods at Pinehills on a Saturday afternoon, a mobile phone begins to ring. The phone belongs to DC Smith, and it isn't unusual that the call is from Kings Lake Central police station; what is unusual is the fact that he seems to be the subject of an investigation rather than taking part in one. What can the links be between a prisoner's violent death in another county, the disappearance of two teenagers, and the highest profile case in Kings Lake for many years?

Great police procedural.
Revisado: 03-18-24
Interesting story. Great characters.
This series never slides off into the “lone wolf” rouge detective genre and stays on course using proper police procedures. Of course there are some wrong turns and blind allies but that’s more like the reality in any real investigation.

Historia
Mark Randall lay dead in a field near Lowacre long before Smith had done what he had to do in Belfast. By the time he went back to work, the investigation was well underway. "It's not my case," he says more than once, and he really doesn't need it to be; he has enough to think about as it is. But going around the Norfolk countryside dotting the i's and crossing the t's, speaking to the local farmers and the Brothers of St. Francis from Abbeyfields, Smith begins to suspect that the investigation might be heading in entirely the wrong direction.

Okay, interesting if a bit predictable.
Revisado: 10-24-23
The story is good, perhaps a bit thin in spots as the investigation sped ahead. There is lots of profiling information and discussion of infamous serial killers. The only serious criticism I have is the reader switching to a stage whisper for asides or inner thoughts. This change in volume made it hard for me to hear, while driving.

Detective Sam Helsdown hasn’t seen his daughter Zoe in two years and he’s excited and more than a little nervous to be at the airport picking her up for a visit. She’s 10 years old and has flown on her own for the first time. Flight BA631 from Athens has already landed and soon a trickle of people begins entering Arrivals. Among them is a little girl who runs towards him, head down, and throws herself into his arms saying ‘Daddy!’. But then he looks at her properly. This is not Zoe. This is not his daughter.

Thin in spots but okay.
Revisado: 06-13-23
There were a lot of interesting ideas here. The story was okay, basically a chase, but perhaps the author isn’t so comfortable outside of the police procedural framework. There’s room for a sequel…

The story, like most of this genera, is a little convoluted with an almost too tidy ending. On the other hand it was quite original and I liked the characters. The reader is excellent.
