Forget, finding Kenna, you’re better off, losing her. I read a lot of Stoker’s books for an easy read/quick entertainment. I liked the first two in this particular series but the lead female in this one was just not likable, so much so, I couldn’t even finish it. I got perhaps 1/2 way through but decided my time is better spent on something else. Life’s too short. Don’t waste your time. Skip this one. Definitely not worth your credit. Wish I could get mine back.

what can I say? I found it enjoyable, humorous, sweet, romantic...thoroughly entertaining.... I'm pretty sure I've listened to it twice now. and I regret nothing :-)

This was way too patriarchal society for me.

and I did not like it. I did not finish this book. I did not want to finish this book. I believe I gave it a few chapters before I called it quits. I used to trudge on through books as I hate "quitting" anything, but over time I've come to realize that life is just too short to listen to/read crap. If you hate it, put it down. So that's what I did here. In this instance I was slightly annoyed by the narration. How he read the female parts in my opinion sounded more like how he thought a woman might say the particular words rather than how actually a woman might actually say them - if that makes any sense. I've never noticed that or found that issue with any other male narrators before... But that wasn't really my biggest issue. That was more of a passing observation. What made me put this one down was the clearly non-consensual BDSM not even disguised as some type of romance. I have no problem with consensual BDSM but when one person forces it on another (who isn't even their official partner) because he or she thinks they need to be taught a lesson...that's not romance, that's assault/battery. This was way too patriarchal society for me. There's just nothing romantic in my opinion about domination just for the sake of selfish domination. There wasn't even enough development of the male character to make me want to hear him out to see how he might later justify his actions. and I just have to say: women aren't these helpless meek little creatures who need someone to control them in order to survive. --- I'll never know if the female character here ever stood up for self, I never got that far. Tragic all the way around. ---- There's plenty more out there to read/listen to in the romance genre that gives you strong protective men who are not domineering jerks...male characters who don't think that a woman's worth is tied to how submissive and obedient she is because "without his help she can never understand how life really works and how much she needs his protection." I'm just not into non-consensual things. If that's your tick - go for it. If not, stay away.

I think this was my second book by Abigail Strom and it did not disappoint. In a "romance" genre things can become predictable and tedious (and that's fine, sometimes predictability is just what the doctor ordered - especially when things are anything but predictable IRL), I find that there is something fresh/different in her writing/stories. I can't put my finger on it yet...but there's just something fresh about them that makes me love it. I liked that both characters were strong and intelligent in this particular book. I liked the discussion about bigger issues (space exploration and the varying reasons behind it). I'm pretty sure I laughed out loud a few times too. Overall an entertaining listen/read.

You definitely get the most bang for your buck by getting a boxed set. Susan Stoker's writing/character are solid as usual. Although some of the storylines can be somewhat predictable in the "romance" genre, I don't care... it was still enjoyable. I like that the male characters are protective without being jerks, possessive without being down right proprietorial or treating the desires of their affection as something to be owned rather than cherished (*cough cough* some other authors could take a hint). I'll keep coming back for more from Susan Stoker and her Delta Force Heroes for sure.

This was a sweet book. I liked the balanced characters. I liked their development as friends overtime and as a “team”...oh and great narration from Sebastian and Andi as usual :)

I wanted to love this book; I really did (as I thoroughly enjoyed the Breathe Series and found myself really invested in those characters), but throughout What If I spent the majority of the time despising one it's the main characters (Nyelle). I found her to be toxic and tremendously selfish. What could be considered a charming character trait (spontaneity) is, in her, exhibited as a selfish recklessness that blatantly disregards the feelings or concerns of those her actions affect. She imposes herself, her own aims on others without proper consideration for their feelings, possessions, time.... The main character, Cal, seems genuine and undeserving of such self-centeredness....but then again he seems to willingly join in the land of denial at the end so...

The fact that I didn't fast forward to the end during the last 8 chapters - just to get it over with - is a testament to my borderline-super-human self-control. I seriously eyed that button so many times I lost count. I thought the first epilogue was the end and damn near cried when I realized I had to sit through one more tortuous chapter.

Needy Nicole needs actual, mental treatment, not to entangle the emotions of those around her into a pseudo relationship that she has doesn't seem to have the capability of seeing through. She's been in denial for over 3 years at this point - that's going to take more than a few months to repair.

As a reader, I found this book very frustrating, more so as it went on. I don't want highschool-aged people to read this book and think this type of behavior is a proper representation of what love is or should be. It's, at best, one-sided infatuation-like love (on the part of Cal) not properly or maturely returned by someone who doesn't seem truly capable of returning it (Nicole).

Save yourself time, and don't read this book. You're better off doing something else, anything else, with your life. Go read the breathe series. At least you'll have developed characters there that experience growth and resolution over time & the books aren't filled with gaping holes where basically reality/common sense should be.

This was the first book I ever deemed my “favorite” as a kid (subteen) and I sill treasure it until this day. I hadn’t read it in a while and was delighted to re-visit it again with Audible. There is still so much “meat” to chew on in this wonderful book (and series) I’ve no doubt I’ll keep coming back over the years as I always have. Thank you Madeline L’engle for this timeless treasure.
