Historia
The Werewolf Shifter promised me my freedom if I played along with him. But the longer I faked it, the deeper we fell, and the more my heart wanted anything but freedom. I'm the pack’s most valued witch, trapped in servitude, craving freedom. He’s a mysterious, smoking-hot wolf shifter exiled from his pack. Now, he needs to overcome their rejection by pretending to be my fated mate. Except I know it's not pretend. Our genuine mating bond has been concealed by a powerful potion. It's a thrilling masquerade but oh-so-tempting, and he's oblivious to the truth. Activating the alpha bad ...

AI narration totally flat
Revisado: 05-16-24
Right up front you are told this book is narrated by an AI voice. And the female narration begins. So you would think Artificial Intelligence could more easily distinguish between a male voice and a female - wouldn’t that be one reason to use AI? Not here. You might expect there to be some degree of nuance in the expression. Not here. Even the cursing was totally flat- not even a hint of anger. When the female character was saying the male characters name in a fit of passion, there was absolutely no difference in tone from the description of the room.
I stuck it out for 3 hours and finally decided to chuck it. The story was so-so and good narration could have pulled it up a notch. This narration pulled the story down.
NOT recommended.

Historia
In the 25th century, humans have conquered space. The advent of faster-than-light travel has opened up hundreds of habitable planets for colonization, and humans have exploited the virtually limitless space and resources for hundreds of years with impunity. So complacent have they become with the overabundance that armed conflict is a thing of the past, and their machines of war are obsolete and decrepit. What would happen if they were suddenly threatened by a terrifying new enemy?

Good sci-fi

Excellent story telling with just enough hidden rifts in the storyline to make things super interesting. And a bigger than life self-effacing hero who had those flaws that made him real but who was true to his mission just the same.

Historia
Something’s off about Molly’s mom. Something sinister behind Alyssa Vaughn’s thin smile and cold eyes. Orlando homicide cop Bobby Greco has a sixth sense for bad guys, and Vaughn is raising all kinds of red flags. Which is not good, because Bobby’s daughter is on the same soccer team as Molly. This one is hitting too close to home. He already has a tough case on his desk - trying to figure out who abducted and likely murdered a teenage barista on her way home from work. Now, he’s working two cases, where one girl is lost, another is found, and both are in danger.

Almost 5 stars

The story is great and gives good background on Bobby’s character for the series. My problem was with pronunciation of baristas- pronounced as (BARE-is-stirs) rather than (bah-REE-stahs). The characterization was strong and reading fluent otherwise. Good freebie.

Historia
Linc Kingston doesn’t accept anything less than perfection. Not in his billion-dollar business or in his personal life. He has it all, except one thing: his personal assistant and best friend in his bed, moaning his name. No matter how much Linc wants her, she’s completely off-limits. Jordan Greene grew up the daughter of the housekeeper at the Kingston estate, where she met and bonded with Linc at a young age, despite their economic differences.

Just Nope
Revisado: 01-26-22
Story is not great. An attempt to have the maid's daughter rise above her raising and marry the rich guy. Some hot sex but not much plot. Business misadventure caused by deceased father does not pan out to be as big a problem as it should have to create real plot. Father's illigitimate daughter is such a sweetie that it is hard to believe she lived in foster care. Rock Star brother with womanizing ways, novelist brother with dark military background - seem to be nods to spin-off stories. Dual narrators was OK, not exciting, just OK.

Somewhat blah
Revisado: 01-26-22
Carolyn Brown is usually a better writer than this. The narrator worked with what they had but the story was thin and accents sort of fell by the way over time. Four generations of women characters seemed to be more than could be fully developed in the time given so each one was superficial. Solutions just seemed to happen. Problems were hardly presented before they ended.
On the first cruise Hannah took with her 3 friends, she said they would go by Morgantown on the way home from New York and that she had some business to take care of. That apparently did not happen as the group was described as having come straight from New York to home in OK. Editorial help is hard to find I suppose. Generally not worth the listen.

Historia
When Caleb Wardell, the infamous "Chicago Sniper", escapes from death row two weeks before his execution, the FBI calls on the services of Carter Blake, a man with certain specialized talents whose skills lie in finding those who don't want to be found - a man to whom Wardell is no stranger. Along with Elaine Banner, an ambitious special agent juggling life as a single mother with her increasingly high-flying career, Blake must track Wardell down as he cuts a swathe across America, apparently killing at random.

Narration a plus
Revisado: 11-06-21
The story of a man who is “good at finding people who don’t want to be found.” Despite production flubs twice somewhere between chapter 27 and 37, the narration is quite good. Voicing of the main characters is on target with the written clues to their personalities. Very much a worthwhile listen.

Historia
Gracie Reed is doing just fine. Sure, she was fired by her overly “friendly” boss, and yes, she still hasn’t gotten her mother into the nursing home of their dreams, but she’s healthy, she’s (somewhat) happy, and she’s (mostly) holding it all together. But when a mysterious SUV pulls up beside her, revealing Chinese cinema's golden couple Wei Fangli and Sam Yao, Gracie’s world is turned on its head. The famous actress has a proposition: Due to their uncanny resemblance, Fangli wants Gracie to be her stand-in.

Better than expected
Revisado: 10-20-21
A contemporary romance set in Toronto with an almost fully developed plot was not what I expected from the blurb. Good voicing 90% of the time and better than average production values raised the story to a 4 star from a 3 for me. Gracie’s story of harassment from Todd at work with the stereotypes of movie stars and the stigma of depression in Chinese culture gave reality to the story, if at times too much “problem novel” tone. Logical ending which nicely tied off the ends, even though Sam lacked the assertiveness as a regular person that he normally played in his film roles.
All in all a satisfying listen.

Historia
Two words: the bullet. That's all it takes to shatter her life. Caroline Cashion is beautiful, intelligent, a professor of French literature. But in a split second, everything she's known is proved to be a lie. A single bullet, gracefully tapered at one end, is found lodged at the base of her skull. Caroline is stunned. It makes no sense: She has never been shot. She has no entry wound, no scar. Then, over the course of one awful evening, she learns the truth.

Through decades of music by one of the best-selling musicians of all time, who created classics like "Fire and Rain" and "Carolina in My Mind", James Taylor has doled out his history in the poetry of his work. Taylor says his early life is, "the source of many of my songs", and Break Shot is a tour of his first 21 years in rich, new detail.

Incorporates music in every section
Revisado: 05-18-20
If you appreciate James Taylor's music then you will love this biography of his first 21 years - the story of his beginnings in the music industry. He plays and sings and runs clips of past recordings and they are pretty seamlessly woven into his narrative. I did not remember his connection to Apple Records and the Beatles. He does not get maudlin about his drug use and time spent in institutions but he is factual and concise about those aspects of his life. He also credits them with making him the man he is today. He is a little wooden as he begins his talk but loosens up quickly. A gem of an hour's time listening.

Goes nowhere
Revisado: 05-31-19
I bought this title because it seemed to fit into that Ernest Clines (Armada, Ready Player One) sort of genre. No. Just some really stupid boyish stuff. Occasionally sexist but author tries to redeem himself from that by working through his female protagonist. I have listened to 3/4 and have found I just don't care anymore how it turns out. That doesn't usually happen to me. Narrator is the only saving grace. Buyer beware.
