Historia
“Quixote in Ramadi: An Indigenous Account of Imperialism” is a dark humor novel that is introspective and capricious, despite dealing with the serious issues of childhood abuse, neo-colonialism, homicide, genocide, and ethnic persecution. It tells the story of an indigenous female soldier in the US Army who deploys to Iraq at the height of the tension of the Fallujah massacre and the Abu Ghraib scandal, and faces unexpected catastrophes and corruption. While her command leadership frivolously spends defense funds in Baghdad's Green Zone and turns local Iraqis into personal servants, she...

Impossible to focus on story because of horrible AI narration.
Revisado: 04-11-25
The story was a painful tale of author’s oppressive experience with discrimination in the military while deployed. There was very little about experience in Iraq performing her role as mental health or as Lioness female engagement team.
The story is painful to listen to but almost impossible due to AI narration. No emotion, or emphasis, words mispronounced, all the Army acronyms spelled out when they should be pronounced and pronounced when they should be spelled. Never again will I take a book with AI narration.

The volume made it impossible to hear.

The book may have been good. We lived her other books. The volume would become so soft and muffled at times that it was impossible to follow the story without constantly adjusting the volume, which was too frustrating.

Dislike- slow start, liked the story line, fresh and interesting, was truly about the women not as in relationship to the real story centered on a male character.

Historia
In 1892, Bombay is the center of British India. Nearby, Captain Jim Agnihotri lays in Poona military hospital recovering from a skirmish on the wild Northern frontier, with little to read but newspapers. The case that catches Jim's attention is being called the crime of the century: Two women fell from the busy university’s clock tower in broad daylight. Moved by the widower of one of the victims - his certainty that his wife and sister did not commit suicide - Jim approaches the Framjis and is hired by the Parsee family to investigate what happened that terrible afternoon.

Arthur was able to take a large cast of characters, intertwine their stories, and multiple points of view very well
Revisado: 01-08-24
I like the way the author was able to take a large cast of characters with multiple points of view, wind together their stories to an impactful, climax and satisfying finish. It takes a while to get into the book due to the many characters and stories, but is well worth it. Stories like these of Iraqi civilians and others from conflict zones and veterans are beyond the usual stereotypes and important to tell.

Historia
In a Pacific Northwest hospital far from the Rummani family’s ancestral home in Palestine, the heart of a stillborn baby begins to beat and her skin turns vibrantly, permanently cobalt blue. On the same day, the Rummanis’ centuries-old soap factory in Nablus is destroyed in an air strike. The family matriarch and keeper of their lore, Aunt Nuha, believes that the blue girl embodies their sacred history, harkening back to a time when the Rummanis were among the wealthiest soap-makers and their blue soap was a symbol of a legendary love.

Literary fiction, end of days scenario, difficult to follow in the beginning because timeframe shifts back-and-forth, but it all weaves together nicely after you’ve gotten about a quarter of the way in.
