Oh my God,SO GOOD!
Revisado: 03-18-25
I have NEVER been a fan of detective novels and downloaded “Nocturnal” not knowing that it was a detective story. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Scott Sigler has written an AMAZING detective novel of next level horror PERFECTLY narrated and brought to life by Phil Gigante. Long live Bryan Clauser and Pookie Chang! Long live the HUNTERS!!

A Pretty Good Listen…
Revisado: 03-03-25
This was my first listen to James A. Prescott and, while I love science fiction, “The Extinction Series” left me feeling a little “flat.” After “The Three Body Problem” ANY science fiction novel (in my humble opinion) would have had some pretty big shoes to fill. “The Extinction Series” just misses the mark. As I listened, I kept thinking,”This is a pretty good premise (scientists discover a submerged alien spacecraft in the Yucatán Peninsula and ultimately learn that extraterrestrials deliberately caused the mass extinction event that killed the dinosaurs and 75% of life on Earth) but this story is definitely missing something.” Not a bad listen, and getting the entire series in a boxed set was a definite selling point, but I’ve read/heard better…

For Those Who Love The Zombie Apocalypse,The Military, Edge-of-Your-Seat Action, and Detailed “Spot-on” Narration- DIG IN!!
Revisado: 02-26-25
I’ve never been a fan of zombies, but love the “end of the world” sagas. I am always amazed when I stumble across an apocalypse series featuring zombies that I absolutely LOVE. Getting this full series in a box set was AWESOME! You will love the stories, the characters, the drama AND (spoiler alert), the ever-evolving zombie hoard. ABSOLUTELY WORTH A LISTEN.

Historia
High up on the windswept cliffs of Pale Peak, Faye and Felix celebrate their new engagement. But soon, a chorus of ghastly noises erupts from the nearby woods: the screams of animals, the cries of children, and the mad babble of a hundred mournful voices. A dark figure looms near the windows in the dead of night, whispering to Faye. As the weather turns deadly, Felix discovers that his terrified fiancée isn't just mumbling in her sleep—she's whispering back.

Interesting Premise
Revisado: 02-01-25
Felix Blackwell produced a pretty good story which J.S. Arquin narrated well. However, I did not find the story to be very scary. The premise is good: an evil presence haunts the woods surrounding a mountain cabin and “latches on” to a woman whose family’s secrets leave her vulnerable to the spirits’ demonic overtures. The entity follows the woman and her husband home and all manner of mayhem ensues. As I said, good premise. My problem with the story stems from its “wordiness.” It felt overlong, and I found myself just wanting to get to the end. Perhaps others will find the story more compelling, but I was underwhelmed.

Historia
A New York Times best-selling author and multiple Bram Stoker Award winner, Marvel Comics writer Jonathan Maberry continues the story he began in Rot and Ruin. Six months have passed since Benny Imura and Nix Riley learned that flesh-eating zombies aren’t the scariest or most dangerous monsters around. Now, Benny’s brother Tom is training them in the art of zombie whacking. But as they plan to leave and find a better future, a zombie attack puts a crimp in their plans.

“Rot and Ruin” was GREAT, but “Dust and Decay” is even better (and I am not a fan of either zombies or young adult fiction!)
Revisado: 01-25-25
Jonathan Maberry has done it again! This story is extremely well written. Each character and harrowing situation will draw you in and keep you wanting to hear more. Combined with Brian Hutchison’s spot-on, beyond PERFECT narration, this second installment of the Benny Imura saga literally kept me awake until the “wee hours” because I couldn’t stop listening. Cannot wait to start book three!

This beautifully written, well-narrated story (even the flesh-eating zombies!) will appeal to readers of ALL ages!
Revisado: 01-23-25
I did not believe that I would enjoy a collection targeted for young readers, boy, was I WRONG. Creepy zombies aside, this is truly a “coming of age” novel. 15-year-old Benny has a lot to learn about his older brother Tom, “The Family Business” (zombie bounty hunters aka “closure specialists”), and the real world outside of his small town. I was completely engrossed as Benny struggled to come to terms with his skewed view of past events, his dread fear of zombies, and then, in time, his acknowledgements of his erroneous perceptions. I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook, perfectly narrated by Brian Hutchison, from the 1st chapter to the heart-wrenching epilogue. I am presently listening to the second novel in the series and expect another “home run” from Jonathan Mayberry.

J.R Rice Does It Again, “Dark Timber” Is A Winner!
Revisado: 01-21-25
The AI narrator’s poor pronunciation and lack of intonation is funny at times, but doesn’t detract from this “Jackson Campbell Thriller.” No, there are no “chills and thrills” like those found in the “Bane County” books, but this is a good story nonetheless. When the narrator says “epilogue” at the end of the story, you are DEFINITELY going to want more!

Be Warned: Not For The Faint Of Heart…(SO Gory and GOOD!!!)
Revisado: 01-15-25
AI narrator aside - This is the definitive collection, the ABSOLUTE BEST werewolf tale EVER written. J.R. Rice takes the tried and true horror staple (my personal favorite ghoul) puts his own masterful “spin” on it, and creates a totally engrossing and completely horrifying update of the classic (you will want to ensure the doors and windows of your home are secured before settling down and listening to this collection in the dark!) If you are at all squeamish about “blood and gore,” the author does his due diligence as a writer (and father) by giving ample warning at the beginning of each book of the copious amounts of each to be found in this amazingly well-written collection. I will miss Bryce, Jackson, Sheriff Cully, California Detectives Luther and Travis and all the rest. Of course, I’m now listening to the Bane County “spin off” - “DARK TIMBER: A Jackson Campbell Thriller” soon to be followed by the second book, “DARK FLYERS.” CAN’T WAIT!!! (by the way, you will get used to the AI narrator and its’ lack of inflection).
**final note: DO NOT bother reading “When Bane Flowers Bloom” (book 3.5) you WILL NOT learn anything worth knowing. You already know that Wendy Clark was taken by a werewolf while walking home from work, her sister Deanna was killed when she came back to Bane County to care for her grieving mother, and Wendy’s father was killed when he stopped to fix a flat tire. Do you REALLY care that a minor character (Deanna) wasn’t actually killed by a werewolf?? Believe me, this book adds NOTHING to the story!
