Self published pseudo religious motivation
Revisado: 07-03-22
I went in to this book expecting a lot more. As the review states, it seems to be a self published, pseudo religious motivational money grab. The voice acting was not great, the story was pretty cringe and the attempts at trendy relevance made me embarrassed for the author on a few occasions. The title and the meaning behind it were the only well formulated aspects of this book. I loved that idea. But after that it fell short with no actionable steps, just a whole bunch of plugs for “train to be clutch,” the authors consulting firm. As I googled this author, one of the first things I found was a video of him whining that Ja Morant stole one of his ideas and published it as his own. Instead of focusing on his craft, this guy is out there participating in the high school like environment that is social media. There are many better books out there, I hope he reads this and improves. This book will fall by the wayside and be forgotten.

Historia
Bill Bryson has been an enormously popular author both for his travel books and for his books on the English language. Now, this beloved comic genius turns his attention to science. Although he doesn't know anything about the subject (at first), he is eager to learn, and takes information that he gets from the world's leading experts and explains it to us in a way that makes it exciting and relevant.

Misleading title.
Revisado: 07-22-21
This should be called: A moderate length history of the origins of science and its practitioners. The book was suggested to me when reading Sapiens. Poor association. Some parts are interesting, but a large portion of the writing style is very dull and dry.

E. H. Gombrich's world history, an international best seller now available in English for the first time, is a text dominated not by dates and facts but by the sweep of experience across the centuries, a guide to humanity's achievements, and an acute witness to its frailties.

Amazing brief recap of history.
Revisado: 12-10-20
This is a great book, and beautifully tied together. My only caveat is his assumption that Jesus was a real person. A proper historian doesn’t make claims on such little evidence. Go read “on the historicity of Jesus” before you angrily disagree with me. Otherwise, this is an amazing book and I learned much from it.

You know those days when you just can't even? When everything is haywire and everyone, including yourself, seems to be against you? Your to-do list is a mile long; your kid is sick, traffic sucks, and you just spilled coffee all over yourself as you were about to walk out the door? How do you cope? We guess you could say "f--k it" and go back to bed with a bottle of whiskey at 10 a.m., but check out these more sustainable and helpful alternatives by Dr. Faith first. This is the first book of its kind to break down coping skills by type of situation.

I’m thoroughly impressed
Revisado: 12-08-20
How juvenile this book is. I don’t know where she learned to use profanity. It sounds so forced. It just seems like she’s trying too hard and this is no new information. Waste of time, this is a trash, sell-out, money grabbing excuse for a book. Just go listen to meditations by Marcus Aurelius instead.

Bubonic plague is widely regarded as being responsible for two of the most infamous plagues in recorded history - the Black Death in the mid-14th century and the great plague of London in 1665. The causative organism of modern-day plague was discovered independently in 1894 by two bacteriologists: the Swiss born Dr. Alexandre Yersin and Dr. Shibasaburo Kitasato from Japan.

Historia
The assumption that Jesus existed as a historical person has occasionally been questioned in the course of the last hundred years or so, but any doubts that have been raised have usually been put to rest in favor of imagining a blend of the historical, the mythical, and the theological in the surviving records of Jesus. Historian and philosopher Richard Carrier reexamines the whole question and finds compelling reasons to suspect the more daring assumption is correct.

Richard Carrier kills the biblical narrative of the gospels via crucifixion. He has such a deep understanding of literature in antiquity and portrays it in terms you can follow. Pace yourself. I love that he narrates it himself.

Good info, broken English
Revisado: 06-12-20
This book has a substantial amount of good information, but at times I found it hard to listen to. It's written in really broken english. i like the guy's voice, but at times he pronounces words wrong and burped a couple of times. They could have done better with editing and production. If this doesn't bother you however, it's a great book.
