Knowing he'll die there and be replaced before the ship's voyage is over, he decides that he won’t — can’t — accept that fate. Whatever it takes, Orion will escape Hermes and see what's beyond, even if it means defying the regulations of his only friend — the ship-wide artificial intelligence known as Dan.

Fantastic short story
Revisado: 04-11-24
Not much to say about this, It's a fantastic 1 hour science fiction short story that takes place aboard a generation ship written in a way I haven't seen before. The amazing narrator Ray Porter only adds to the already high quality of the short story. Highly recommend.

I'm not sure if I picked this up for free as an audible original a few years ago or if I added it to my library with audible plus but either way It's been in my library for a few years and I finally got around to listening to it. I was semi-interested because this is and isn't a zombie book but the Isn't a zombie book part is why it took so long for me to get to it. Overall despite the slow start which isn't actually that long as the book is only like 2 and a half hours, I really enjoyed the book and didn't want to stop listening until I finished it. I'm not sure I will ever get around to the second book due to a time skip and the fact that the story direction changes but I highly recommend this one, but be ready for some heart break at the end.

Short but enjoyable
Revisado: 04-09-24
I got this back when Audible was giving away 2 free Audible Originals a month a few years ago, Seeing as how I've never really had any serious interest in baseball other than collecting cards I got for free when I was young and hearing things in passing from other people talking about it It doesn't come as a surprise that I wasn't really in a hurry to listen to this though I did know a bit about Babe Ruth.
As the original is short only around 40 minutes I finally decided to listen to it today and was surprised that I actually enjoyed it, I don't know how accurate the portrayal of Babe Ruth is in this despite doctors speculating he had ADHD and some learning disabilities but it brought this larger than life historical figure into a better perspective of the average person and made him more relatable. I'm pretty sure whoever wrote this accounting of Babe has read Flowers for Algernon as it represents ignorance is bliss in the same true to life way.
Overall despite expectations I enjoyed this and recommend it to anyone with even a passing interest in Baseball, Babe Ruth or just someone with 40 minutes to fill with an interesting story.

KU and Audiobook Review
Revisado: 03-25-23
Due to health and other life issues finishing this book took me much longer than it should have so instead of finishing it up and reviewing it within a few days of release at most like I wish I could have here we are 2 weeks later. I ended up splitting it about 50/50 between reading and listening to the audio-book. I personally enjoyed this book, the system reminds me loosely of Genshin Impact and other Gacha games where you combine items (in this case cards) to increase levels and ranks of equipment though the rules in this are a little loose, so while I do recommend this to system apocalypse fans I withhold that recommendation if you don't like the Gacha equipment system (even if there are no character pulls). The characters don't really have a ton of time for growth with things going on back to back so they each come off their own type of extreme or stereo-types of daytime soap operas. Some of the skill choices may confuse or put people off but I'm pretty sure they were picked with book 2 and whatever the eventual end game is in mind by the author(s) and they make more sense in the last few minutes of the book. That being said for the most part the characters have unique skill sets in comparison to the rest of the genre. As far as audio-book narration goes Daniel Wisniewski and Elizabeth Plant did a fantastic job of distinguishing the characters, there are enough characters that might make distinguishing them difficult in text but their performance did that amazingly well, especially Lucy, where does one go to meet a girl like Lucy? Plot aside, if you enjoy or don't enjoy any of the particular mechanics I listed above you should be able to tell if this book is for you. I look forward to the next one.

Jack is violently pulled into a game-like universe and dumped into a seaside town on the brink of destruction. When the people of Blackmoor Cove begin to ask about his combat role, Jack discovers his odd Hero Class and finds that parts of his game interface are riddled with exposed coding errors. He quickly learns that the only way the town can grow and push back the unknown substance threatening to consume it is if brave Heroes venture into an infinitely high, ever-changing tower, kill bizarre monsters for their equipment drops, and then deposit those items into a special chest.

Exactly what LitRPG should be
Revisado: 02-28-23
I'm not sure how I didn't come across this gem sooner and I'm sure I had seen it around but it just wasn't on my radar until recently. This book rekindled an interest that has slowly been fading in LitRPG lately even though the genre covers many things I love, it did so by bringing it back to what LitRPG was a few years ago when this was written where quite honestly lately I find myself dropping more and more of the newer releases due to them feeling soulless, and making choices that just don't make sense, the only conclusion I can come up with is AI assisted writing because that's what they read like. Then there is this, like I said it goes back to an earlier time in LitRPG written more like a proper table top dungeon crawler with some city building elements, just enough character background to make the character relatable to the target audience, and enough world building to keep the reader engaged. All of this is propped up further by the fantastic work of Soundbooth Theater and Andrea Parsneau I would now add this to the must listen or read list of any LitRPG fan.

They are coming. The countdown has begun. First visible only as blips on a telescope image, the discovery of objects approaching from Jupiter's orbit immediately sets humanity on edge. NASA doesn't even bother to deny the alien ships' existence. The popular Astral space app (broadcasting from the far side of the moon and accessible by anyone with Internet) has already shown the populace what is coming.

audible plus review
Revisado: 12-13-22
I listened to this for free through Audible Plus. While I liked the book overall I think it was largely due to Ray Porters narration and the style fits with other books he has narrated before. The story itself feels lacking or incomplete like an 0.5 volume or one of the old "audible originals" that were often like half volumes designed to get you into the story to buy the rest despite being 318 pages. Additionally while only being written 8 years ago I feel like in the current economic and political climate not everyone will appreciate this book which portrays the main character as a cut throat millionaire or billionaire who cheats on his wife and tries to put his family first and damn everyone else as society begins to collapse in on itself and this is reflected in other reviews. What those reviews don't mention is that more often than not he gets the short end of the stick and most other people are just as cut throat as he is. The reflection of people in the book is an unflattering but realistic representation of us as a species and how people panic as a group. I should mention the book itself doesn't go into politics or political views just in case that's how my review sounded.
Overall yeah I would recommend the book but not to everyone and probably not to most people under 30.

Earth was never the same after World of the Changed. Humanity was reduced to two camps: monsters thirsting to kill, and players doing everything they could to survive. The squabbles people had spent their time on before? Gone. If you wanted to live to see another sunrise, you had to work with everyone you could, from other players to game functions.

Kindle Unlimited and Audible Review
Revisado: 12-07-22
While I'm still giving this 4 stars this book was largely a step down from the first as even most of the game mechanics moot. A bit of the larger picture painted in the first book has been revealed but the main character still hasn't done what he set out to do at the beginning of the first book. If you're here I am going to make the leap that you've finished the first book so I can safely say the following. The view of females remains unchanged from the first book, helpless, slaves, mindless bodies for breeding, and the first semi competent female he meets is still helpess and basically worthless. Combat and action in this book has become run, hide, wait, push single button. The story and plot advances decently and while I finished it I'm on the fence about recommending it. If you liked the first one you will probably like this one, if you're on the fence after finishing the first one feel free to skip this. The narrator does a fantastic job but even that didn't stop me from falling asleep and having to rewind 3 times. I'm not sure if I'm going to read the next book but if I can't find something else to start in the next few hours I probably will give it a chance.

Audible and KU Review
Revisado: 10-31-22
I have now both read the kindle edition and listened to the audio-book because I couldn't wait for the third book to come out and wanted more. I enjoyed the book in both formats as while I enjoyed burning through the e-book version the slowed down pace of an audio-book helped set a great mood and the narrator choice was fantastic. It isn't really noticeable when reading it but in audio there are two points later in the book where the full reading of the stat sheet does feel like a bit much but they aren't anywhere near as long as it is in some books in the same genre. The book itself is the perfect length to both satisfy you and leave you wanting more, I feel like it's somewhere between 90% and 95% story advancement with the left over being skill and item descriptions or stat sheets which feels just right especially being twice the length of the average book in this genre. Over all I highly recommend it, I just wish I didn't have to wait for the third book.

Now they are stuck in a city that has been completely overrun with zombies, and as the days go by, they must range farther and farther away from "fortress" in their search for supplies. Relying on military training, guts, and pure force of will, the two of them will face a nightmare world that is intent on killing them one bite at a time. Very realistic portrayal of the Zombie Apocalypse.
Revisado: 10-25-21
Short and Sweet: I liked the books.
More details: The books are supposed to be written in a diary or journal format but the fact that there are conversations between characters kind of takes away from that, add in the log of their supplies at the beginning of the chapter and it gives more of the feeling log files you would find in a video game do where you find other survivors journal entries as you go. It's written in a way that reminds me of both classic radio plays where they could do a chapter a night or late 90s Monster Vision movies on TNT. The books aren't for everyone, some of the jokes will hit or miss based on how much you know about the different branches of the military or if you're offended by humor from the early 2000's to early 2010's. This is one of the few zombie series I've come across that isn't full of political connotations which I greatly appreciated. Plenty of action scenes that are much more realistic than most in the genre as well, Not everyone is a crack shot sniper super soldier in real life. The characters could use a little more depth but you can only do so much with 400 or so pages. Lastly I want to say that the narrator does a fantastic job of bringing the books to life and really giving it that gritty 80s - 90s zombie action movie feel.

I played all those cool video games. I watched all those movies. I even read the books. In most of 'em, the hero shoots the bad guys, drives a sweet car, never gets hungry, and always seems to get laid by the end. Yeah. Whatever. I gotta be straight with you about why I wrote this journal, and it comes down to one thing, the apocalypse kinda sucks. It doesn’t meet my expectations at all.

One lonely desperately horny mans desperate journey in a post apocalyptic world to get laid or at the very least find some porn. Sure a lot more goes on and there is more to the book to that but I felt other reviews covered that stuff well enough that I could sum the book up with that. I personally found it humorous and see potential for it to be more than it currently is.
