Historia
In 2002, Bill Zehme landed one of the most coveted assignments for a magazine writer: an interview with Johnny Carson—the only one he’d granted since retiring from hosting The Tonight Show a decade earlier. Zehme was tapped for the Esquire feature story thanks to his years of legendary celebrity profiles, and the resulting piece portrayed Carson as more human being than showbiz legend. Shortly after Carson’s death in 2005 and urged on by many of those closest to Carson, Zehme signed a contract to do an expansive biography.

What a waste of a credit
Revisado: 03-18-25
Nothing new here. Written in a very flowery and pretentious style. The reader is shrill and very annoying. I couldn’t even finish this even though I spent a valued credit on it.

Historia
The tumultuous decade of the 1960s began with promise and hope, when John F. Kennedy became the youngest elected President of the United States. Kennedy promised youthful, energetic leadership, as the country headed into the latter half of the 20th century, and christened his presidencey as the "New Frontier." After a thousand days, an assassin's bullets shattered the dreams of an idealisitic generation. Following JFK's assassination, an intense personal and poltical feud between the new President, Lyndon B. Johnson, and deceased former President's younger brother, Robert F. Kennedy, ...

While I’m not entirely convinced that some of the facts given are true, I found this book interesting and informative. However, the mispronunciation of names was a huge distraction.

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Yes, this is a very inspirational and thought provoking story. I am delighted Mr. Vance’s story has a happy ending. It was difficult for me to listen to much of this book because of the vile, foul, disgusting and despicable language.

Revisado: 01-19-25
There are so many things I loved about this book. Tom’s honesty and his integrity come through on every page. I didn’t feel like he was reading to me. He was just talking to me, telling me his story. By the end of the book, I felt like we were friends.

Historia
Frank Sinatra desperately wanted to be part of John F. Kennedy, Jr.'s gang. He had his own famed "Rat Pack", made up of hard drinking, womanizing individuals like himself - guys like Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., and Peter Lawford - but the guy "Ol' Blue Eyes" really wanted to hang with was Lawford's brother-in-law, the real chairman of the board, John F. Kennedy. In Sinatra and the Jack Pack, Michael Sheridan delves deep into the acclaimed singer's relationship with the former president.

Two high profile men with enormous egos.
Revisado: 01-15-25
This book is well written and very well read by the narrator. That being said, I have several issues with the author:
1. He refers to Richard Nixon as Ike‘s son-in-law more than once. Wrong!
2 After Kennedy is elected, he says this was the beginning of Camelot. That myth didn’t come into being until after Kennedy’s death and Jackie, in her obsessive need to keep his memory alive, claimed he had spent evenings listening to the soundtrack of the play.
3. The author uses Kitty Kelly as a reference. Her “facts”are dubious, at best.
4. He also makes reference to Eisenhower‘s “infidelity.” There is absolutely no evidence that Ike was anything but completely faithful to his devoted Mamie.

Great stories; horrible narration.
Revisado: 08-19-24
Burt Reynolds has had a very interesting career and the stories he tells are just that, very interesting and entertaining. However, I do not understand how anybody could accept his reading of this book. His voice sounds like somebody woke him up at 4 AM and stuck a microphone in his face. It’s gravelly and garbled and his diction is dreadful. Was so looking forward to listening to Burt Reynolds read to me for these hours. Very disappointing.

Revisado: 08-17-24
Meredith Wilson was a frequent guest on the old Arthur Godfrey radio show. He regaled us with many stories that are included in this book of bringing “The Music Man” to Broadway. I absolutely loved reading this book and learning even more about my favorite Broadway musical and about the man who created it. I will read this over and over and over. Absolutely delightful!!!

I didn’t want it to end
Revisado: 08-11-24
This is probably the longest book I have ever read/listened to and I was riveted to every word. The reading/narration is impeccable. She dramatizes the story without being dramatic. What a gift! Margaret Mitchell brings the old south back with all its charm and beauty and fantasy. She shows the horror and pain of the Civil War and makes it very real. I read the book years ago and have seen the movie dozens of times, but I have never been pulled into it as thoroughly as I was by listening to this edition. Thank you, Audible, for this moving and unforgettable experience.

Even today, almost five decades after John F. Kennedy was slain, the public continues to be captivated by the "Kennedy Curse" and new theories about what really happened on that fateful day in 1963. For nearly 50 years former Secret Service agent Clint Hill has lived with the unimaginable guilt of losing a president on his watch and has obeyed an honor code of silence, refusing to contribute to any books about the assassination. Until now.

Fascinating
Revisado: 07-26-24
I admire and respect all the men who were part of the Kennedy detail. Clint Hill will always be a hero of mine. The author disparages those who believe and profit from touting false information. My quarrel with him is JFK’s son’s name was JOHN. No family member ever called him John John. In later years, John Jr himself hated that silly nickname. Shame on you, Mr. Blaine, for perpetuating that myth. In an otherwise totally fascinating and riveting book, this was a distraction.
