If it’s navel-gazing you’re after, you’ve come to the wrong place; ditto treacly self-examination. Rather, his observations turn outward: a fight between two men on a bus, a fight between two men on the street, pedestrians being whacked over the head or gathering to watch as a man considers leaping to his death. There’s a dirty joke shared at a book signing, then a dirtier one told at a dinner party - lots of jokes here. Plenty of laughs.

Stick with the first three and skip this one

I really loved the older Flynn books. This one read more like a statement of morality and the dangers of cultural change. The characters that had been built over the last three books acted out of character. The transparent preaching of the author either through the way good and bad characters were designed or the things good and bad characters said was just a major turn-off. I should have just skipped it.

Delightful, but read Neil’s books first

Pleasant surprise

I love Neil Gaiman, but as this was not written by him, I did not have any expectations of greatness. I figured it probably would be a little silly.
It was a little silly to start, but as it continued, I found it more and more enjoyable. As the story approached the climax and resolution, and I realized its message, I was touched.
I kind of really really like this story, and that was something I did not expect. I will be listening to it again (I can always listen to Neil tell stories), and I will be recommending it to others.

Love the series until this book due to narrator

I was unable to finish listening to this book. The narrator was unbearable to listen to. She was tolerable until Elliot. Her version of a Scottish accent was the last straw, I couldn’t take anymore.
