Historia
In the darkness beyond the galaxy, there are monsters. Some swim closer to the light, drawn by the beacon that is the Astronomican, while others stalk the Void, predators in the dark. The Carcharodons have hunted for millennia, but now they are drawn into a new blackness...the Dark City of the drukhari itself. Commorragh. For a thousand years, Chaplain Tangata Manu has searched for a relic lost under his watch: an ancient thing, once charged into the keeping of the Forgotten One himself. But at the brink of seeing his hunt fulfilled and the relic returned, it is stolen from under him.

Despite the dismal Broadway season, Gunplay continues to draw crowds. A gangland spectacle, it's packed to the gills with action, explosions, and gunfire. In fact, Gunplay is so loud that no one notices the killing of Monte Field. In a sold-out theater, Field is found dead partway through the second act, surrounded by empty seats. The police hold the crowd and call for the one man who can untangle this daring murder: Inspector Richard Queen.

Historia
Nearly a decade after his triumphant Charlie Chan biography, Yunte Huang returns with this long-awaited portrait of Chang and Eng Bunker (1811-1874), twins conjoined at the sternum by a band of cartilage and a fused liver, who were "discovered" in Siam by a British merchant in 1824. Bringing an Asian American perspective to this almost implausible story, Huang depicts the twins, arriving in Boston in 1829, first as museum exhibits but later as financially savvy showmen who gained their freedom and traveled the backroads of rural America to bring "entertainment" to the Jacksonian mobs.

A great history and story.
Revisado: 03-08-24
Mr.Yunte has done it again. I am probably the absolute wrong person to do a review on this book.
I am a white American so let me say this, Mr.Yunte has me hooked on his perspective of Chinese history in America. He puts the not just a biography but a slice of what was going on at that time.
Chang and Ang there story was aboslutly amazing!
In my opinion they are the American Dream. Born poor disabled in China, sold into basicly slavery, rose to superstar status, learned to read and write, got to become the 2nd and 3rd Chinese immigrants to be U.S citizens, owned land, married, had LOTS of kids and lived a relativly good life.
By God if that aint the American dream then I don't know what is.
The same goes for Mr.Yunte. He is the American sucess story too, and my personal hero, he is worthy for any Chinese to look up to or any American to look up to as a example of sucess.
I would suggest his Charlie Chan book as a excellent listen(minus the dry narrator) then this book. Hell listen to all of them.

Historia
Before the being called the Emperor revealed himself, before the rise of the aeldari, before the necrontyr traded their flesh for immortal metal, the world was born in violence. Even when they inhabited bodies of flesh, Trazyn the Infinite and Orikan the Diviner were polar opposites. Trazyn, a collector of historical oddities, presides over a gallery full of the most dangerous artefacts - and people - of the galactic past. Orikan, a chronomancer without peer, draws zodiacs that predict and manipulate the future.

Just didn't like it.
Revisado: 03-08-24
In my opinion (which is probably wrong) this particular story kind of ruined the necrons for me.
Trazon is neat, its ideals and motives are laid out well but everyone else is frankly boring, confusing and not interesting.
The necrons in every story and game I have played the necrons are treated like a nightmare inducing horror made real. Unstoppable cold murder A.I machines.
Other than the Tyranids these are the things that make the military run screaming.
but in this book they are treated like foppy old senile politicians with too much red tape.
I fully expected the necrons to sound like victorian British men.
The narrator was...fine. He just didnt appeal to me.
Look every one else liked the book, so don't listen to me, you will probably love it and wonder what is wrong with me it's just my opinion.

war never changes.
Revisado: 03-07-24
This is a heavy book. I would not reccomend starting with this book if you are not versed in the lore, or into the tabletop or video games. i would suggest the Cain series for new warhammer readers.
That being said, this is a amazing exciting thought provoking book. The complexities of politics, war, PTSD, and survivor's guilt and religion are abound in this story.
Warhammer lore is thick and what you make of it.
The writer is brilliant i have seen he has written other books i would tell you to read anything he has written sight unseen, because this man has a flare for story telling his characters are rich with personality, his action brings you into the moment.
I cannot heap more praise unto this book than anyone else has, or say anything new but one caviat just before you read watch a video on the black templars and most important, Do not spoil yourself on Helsreach!
By the Golden Throne you will not be disappointed!

This is audiobook #3 in the Casca Series. Casca awoke from a drugged sleep and saw his spear thrust into the side of the man on the cross. His spear...lost when he was sent from Judea! It wasn't a vision - it was the beginning of a threat which would follow Casca through eternity, and cost him the use of his hand.

Revisado: 07-09-23
the casca series is by far, fills that itch for macho pulp.
that may be the wrong way to describe this soldiers tale of immortality. Its crude, lots of swear words, lots of violence, lots of sex, and i hate to say it, but i love every two fisted drinking word of it. Casca is brilliant. if you like pulp fiction (the movie) kill bill, or the hateful eight, This is your new jam!

Yunte Huang ingeniously traces Charlie Chan from his real beginnings as a bullwhip-wielding detective in territorial Hawaii to his reinvention as a literary sleuth and Hollywood film icon. Huang finally resurrects the "honorable detective" from the graveyard of detested postmodern symbols and reclaims him as the embodiment of America’s rich cultural diversity. The result is one of the most critically acclaimed books of the year and a "deeply personal...voyage into racial stereotyping and the humanizing force of storytelling" (Donna Seaman, Los Angeles Times).

great book strange choice of narrator.
Revisado: 11-27-22
a great book with a very important statement. i am not the best person to make a comment on this being that i am not chinese, however i love the warner oland charlie chan movies and i love historical books. and this book is a loving tribute to apanna (the true charlie chan) and the charlie chan movies.
its amazing to me how something so simple as a movie can offer pride and hope to the world.
Racism in all forms is bad , and i hope one day we can have a chinese actor portray charlie chan and redeem him for a modern world.
i dont know if im wrong for saying that, i hope im not. all i do know is that this book is great if ( big if) you can get past the narrator. he was a wierd choice.
please give this book a chance.

My favorite story!
Revisado: 08-06-22
This is the best Ellery Queen novel hands down in my opinion. The mystery will keep you guessing, the writing is top notch, and this particular story NEEDS to be a movie!
personally Robert hass is the best narrator for the Queen series he just gets the characters. I do not like the other voice over people for Mr.Queen novels.
Please if you only read/listen to only one Ellery Queen novel this is best one to start with.
