Historia
When he was a child, James Middleton wanted nothing more than a dog of his own. Struggling to connect in the classroom, James would often take off in pursuit of nature and animals—exploring the Berkshire countryside, tinkering with rusty farm machinery, caring for injured creatures, and losing himself for hours to the outdoors. Then, finally, his pleas for a dog (made via handwritten letters to his parents) were answered.

This is a great book for anyone who loves dogs, and even if you don’t, the story itself is inspiring and uplifting. I always love a book that’s read by the author. You definitely get to know what they think is important as they read by what they emphasize.

Historia
A summer vacation aboard the Harwood College Showboat was an exciting prospect for Pam and Penny, the twins of Double Feature. To Penny, it meant being with Mike who had a job on the tugboat that pushed the old Regina from town to town along the Ohio River. To Pam it meant a chance to act, and perhaps a leading role in one of the gala showboat performances.

The virtual voice sounded just fine and I enjoyed this 3rd book in the Pam and Penny saga. Fun to learn about life on a showboat in the fifties!

Historia
It is the summer of 1919, and Constance Haverhill is without prospects. Now that all the men have returned from the front, she has been asked to give up her cottage and her job at the estate she helped run during the war. While she looks for a position as a bookkeeper or—horror—a governess, she’s sent as a lady’s companion to an old family friend who is convalescing at a seaside hotel. Despite having only weeks to find a permanent home, Constance is swept up in the social whirl of Hazelbourne-on-Sea after she rescues the local baronet’s daughter, Poppy Wirrall, from a social faux pas.

This book was well written and a fun look at the life of the upper class and of women in 1919. The story line was predictable, but still enjoyable.

Historia
As the middle of five kids growing up in dire poverty, the odds were low on Katriona O'Sullivan making anything of her life. She became a mother at 15 and ended up homeless. Five rackety years followed - barely coping, drinking to escape - until Katriona, now living in her father's native Dublin, hit rock bottom. Poor is the extraordinary story - moving, funny, brave, and sometimes startling - of how Katriona turned her life around.

Heart wrenching story.
Revisado: 01-16-24
This was such an excellent read. The author really helps you see what it’s like to be raised by drug addicted parents from the point of view of the child. So many children are living lives they have no control over and yet they are blamed for their shortcomings We should all feel compassion for them. This book moved me to tears several times - having the author read it made the story even more emotional and compelling. An excellent read!

Beautifully written
Revisado: 07-10-23
This story captured small-town, Irish life perfectly, and there were so many quotes that I wrote down from the book. I really enjoyed it, but I can only give it four stars because at times I thought it was unnecessarily, “wordy”and droned on too long to drill home a point.

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Revisado: 01-17-23
This book was so well written and Harry did a great job narrating it. There are lots of details given about royal life, but there was also a lot not detailed. I’m glad I listened to it after hearing all the headlines that pulled everything out of context.
