So much heartache
Revisado: 04-21-25
I liked that it is well written and realistic. Loved the performance voices, Darcy is blind and Elizabeth is so dang stubborn to the point of being stupid.
I appreciate the author did not make magic appear but made a plausible meeting. I admit Wickham is far fetched but still made a good lead in helping the story along. I did cry and wanted to stop reading. But I Love the ending,

Historia
The moment he saw her at the assembly in Meryton, he knew he loved her. When Fitzwilliam Darcy meets Elizabeth bennet in the fateful autumn of 1811, their mutual infatuation is immediate and undeniable. Within months, they are married and spend a blissful winter at Pemberley, falling more deeply in love with each other than either might have imagined possible. But spring in London proves more challenging to them. Accident and artifice join to devastating effect for the young couple, destroying their felicity and creating an outcome neither might have imagined.

Many tears
Revisado: 02-27-25
This began so differently then I expected. I read the kindle book and waited some years before getting the audio. Elizabeth was not the strong, opinionated, and hate Darcy person. Darcy was a jerk (no easy way to say it). However, when a relationship breaks —it is not an easy fix. The relationship was new, dreamy eyed, and shallow. Elizabeth and Darcy transformed, and while this did not have the parsonage scene —it had a drama and comedy elements throughout. Well written and this author did not take short cuts nor rush the ending.

Historia
If Mr. Darcy had met Elizabeth Bennet in his beloved Derbyshire, would he have recognized her as the love of his life instead of dismissing her as someone “not handsome enough to tempt” him? This alteration of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice adds a little spirit, flirtation, and charm to everyone’s favorite characters. Early in the summer of 1811, Elizabeth Bennet travels to Derbyshire to help her aunt and uncle settle in as new owners of Saphrinbrooke. Elizabeth is soon introduced to the estate’s nearest neighbors: Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy and his sister, Georgiana, who is ...

The Healing
Revisado: 01-14-25
I enjoyed the faith part of the story. It showed how forgiveness brings so much more. Darcy did not begin arrogant, he began lost due to his sister’s sorrow.
The virtual voice does not let you enjoy it like Harry Frost or similar voice actor, but for me I enjoyed the healing and faith not only in God but in one another.

To Wake The Sleeping Dragon WARNING: There are no actual Dragons in this Book Napoleon crowned himself Emperor of France in December of the year 1804, he said to a room of his closest advisors and supporters, ‘China is a sleeping dragon, let her sleep for when she awakens, she will shake up the world!’ Those words set a chain of events that would change the destiny of several of England’s most prominent families. And the lives of a country squire and his small family of daughters, in ways they could have never dreamed possible. Thomas Bennett is a man whose entire life had fallen ...

The originality
Revisado: 12-26-24
I listened and due to the storyline I couldn’t stop listening. I admit I stopped listening and bright the book. Sure the are inconsistencies and modern phases. But I still loved the pacing, the twist, unexpected information, and how there are several stories within the one story. New characters are introduced with the old. Each character plays a significant role. She also gives us a wonder epilogue.
I have since listened to this variation more than a few times. I would love to hear Frost or Grace or BOTH read this variation. The setting is in England but China comes into this storyline.
Virtual Voice needs more time to develop, one example is each time the name Caroline is read there is a pause and it’s emphasized. There no emotion or change in voices for each character.
However, I listen when I wash dishes, cook, or play an online game.

After thinking long and hard, I have come to the conclusion that - although it may not be the kind of love my sister and I once had in mind - marrying Mr Darcy would be marrying for a love of the deepest kind. Recovering from their parents' deaths, Elizabeth and Jane Bennet have held their family together, leaning on the support of their uncle, Edward Gardiner, to help them survive. Thus, when Mr. Gardiner is threatened with scandal and ruin, Elizabeth vows to help him.

Elizabeth Bennet is living a lie. She’s known since she was fifteen that she isn't truly a Bennet, but who is she? Are the people and places that appear in her dreams just a sign of her active imagination, or are they memories of her true family? Could the stories she'd told Jane when they were children not be stories at all?

A selfish decision changes everyone
Revisado: 07-03-24
I enjoyed how the author gave you the timeline: intertwined with the thoughts, feelings, and results of actions from a moment in time.
I did read a similar variation but it was both horrible characters of Mr&Mrs Bennett. This variation is a better Mr Bennett but a selfish and unkind Mrs. Bennett.
I will try not to give too many spoilers. Here we go…
Elizabeth is not a Bennett but still raised by Mr. & Mrs. Bennett. Jane is still wonderful but not so perfect. Mary is a shining spark that is unexpected.
Elizabeth’s birth family is broken but still together & still loving. I enjoyed how Rachel’s writing did not allow mendings to occur in less than six weeks but demonstrated time, pain, suffering, misunderstandings, human faults, determination, and the ability to Love, forgive (both others and self), and more…
I did like Mercy-she accelerated the conflict and this allowed her and Elizabeth to find their place.
Finally Harry Frost and Stephanie Zimmerman together “Spectacular!”
Yes I highly recommend this variation.

Elizabeth Bennett never imagined her own parents would force her to marry a virtual stranger. But when Mrs. Bennett accuses Fitzwilliam Darcy of compromising her daughter, that is exactly the outcome. Trapped in a seemingly loveless marriage and far from home, she grows suspicious of her new husband's heart and further, suspects he is hiding a great secret. Is there even a chance at love given the happenstance of their hasty marriage?

Unexpectedly Sorrowful and Sweet
Revisado: 01-12-23
This is a wonderful variation which changes at the Bingley’s ball. The performance is a reader that draws you in and keeps you listening.
I was prepared to not like the story, and was I thankful to be wrong. I purchased it a few years ago and listen to it at least every year. It’s characters remain almost true to who they are. The married Elizabeth seems to weaken but I soon realize she is not weak, but made fragile due to the transformation of her feelings for Darcy. I feel this story shows in conversations and plot the transformation of both Elizabeth and Darcy. I appreciate the dialogue.
Sexual situations are not explicit and are written in to show progression of the story/characters transformation.
Incase you can not ;-) tell I highly recommend this story.

The river isn't the only thing overflowing in Hunsford when a natural disaster forces Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy to work together. The residents of flood-stricken Hunsford, seeking refuge in the parsonage atop the hill, are unaware they are interrupting Darcy's disastrous proposal. Even worse, the flood has washed out the only bride to Rosings Park, stranding Darcy with the woman who has just refused his offer of marriage. But it may already be too late to redeem Elizabeth's reputation.

Good Story, Terrible narration

I enjoyed listening to this story.
Revisado: 01-08-22
What did I like?
I liked how Elizabeth kept her anger with Darcy. I enjoyed that storyline and how the characters were developed. The Colonial was my most favorite surprise.
What did I dislike?
I disliked how Elizabeth in just two-three days changes her mind. I felt there was an opportunity for development of Darcy and Elizabeth - development in understandings and allowing for other characters to develop.
I rated the story 4 stars because it was too forward in how liberties were allowed. However I still read/listened to the entire story. The performance was not as good as other voices due to the men and women sounding alike. I have listened to her in other audiobooks and maybe it is that I know she could have done a better reading than what I listened to during this time.
I recommend this book because it does have a growth and allows not only Elizabeth to develop and grow but allows others this growth. I like a story that has supporting characters show depth and they are able to move the story along.

Worth the credit and time
Revisado: 07-20-18
I have always liked her books and am listening to them for a second time. I forgot the humor and suspense she wove into the story line. These books are for pure enjoyment.
She stays consistent in the plot of the stories. The characters motivations, backgrounds, and entanglements are different but the conflict, mystery, suspense, and ending are pretty much the same. My favorite books from Garwood are Shadow Music, Shadow Dance, Kill Joy, Mercy, and Murder list. So far Joyce Bean has been the best performance.
I like this story because it makes you wonder what part the main character had in causing someone to want her dead. Garwood gives voice to the main characters (including the villain). Each book has different twist and turns. Garwood is good at giving you a resolution, whether you like it or not, will depend on you. I like her resolutions.

I forgot how sweet Anne is
Revisado: 12-03-16
Rachel McAdams brought this book to life. I had forgotten how sweet and how mischievous Anne is, this realistic fiction was beautifully written with it's rich descriptions and relatable characters. I found there was no one best part but many moments in the book that made me laugh out loud or had me crying for the sorrow that life brings unexpectedly.
