Was looking for some of more of Aristotle's more extensive works to be available in German. This is a really good reading, hope there are more to come.

Interesting Early Translation
Revisado: 12-02-18
Wackerbarth’s translation is the first Modern English translation of the poem. It’s goal was to get as many people as possible to read the poem and instead of trying to imitate the poetic style of the original Wackerbarth put the poem in a style that was popular at the time. He hoped that his translation would be followed by more faithful ones in time and it certainly has been.
This is not a translation I would recommend to anyone looking for something that imitates the style of the original, and it’s probably been surpassed in terms of its original goal of making the poem accessible to a wider audience.
It is however and interesting translation for anyone curious to hear the story in another style and I was delighted to find a quality reading of it.

Rodgers and Hart. George and Ira Gershwin. Cole Porter. Lerner and Loewe. For most people who've grown up with and shared America's musical heritage, great songs open the floodgates to memories and feelings. Perhaps nowhere is this more profound than in the world of Broadway musicals, with their iconic melodies and memorable lyrics.Revisit the standards, originally written for the stage, that have both delighted and helped mend the broken hearts of Americans for decades.

Would Love More Music History Audiobooks Like This
Revisado: 01-20-17
Listening to audiobooks about music history that include samples of the music is such a great way to delve deeper into music. Unfortunately a lot of audiobooks do not take advantage of this opportunity and just have the text as read. Some lectures on classical music have done this, but little else is available.
This was a really great lecture series on Broadway Musicals, it really helped me learn a lot of the history and he music samples make it much easier to follow along. Hope more like this are made in the future.

Historia
The Singularity of Being presents a Lacanian vision of what makes each of us an inimitable and irreplaceable creature. It argues that, unlike the "subject" (who comes into existence as a result of symbolic prohibition) or the "person" (who is aligned with the narcissistic conceits of the imaginary), the singular self emerges in response to a galvanizing directive arising from the real. This directive carries the force of an obligation that cannot be resisted and that summons the individual to a "character" beyond his or her social investments.

Lots to Think About

Really great discussion of various Lacanian viewpoints. Perhaps not for someone completely unfamiliar with some of the names and ideas, but none the less it made some more difficult discussions fairly accessible.

Historia
Jacques Lacan was one of the most important psychoanalysts ever to have lived. Building upon the work of Sigmund Freud, he sought to refine Freudian insights with the use of linguistics and mathematics, arguing that "the structure of unconscious is like a language." He is widely misunderstood and often unfairly dismissed as impenetrable. In this clear, wide-ranging primer, Lionel Bailly demonstrates how Lacan’s ideas are still vitally relevant to contemporary issues of mental health treatment. Including coverage of developments in Lacanian psychoanalysis since his death, this is the perfect introduction to the great modern theorist.

Historia
Paris, 1933: Three contemporaries meet over apricot cocktails at the Bec-de-Gaz bar on the rue Montparnasse. They are the young Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, and longtime friend Raymond Aron, a fellow philosopher who raves to them about a new conceptual framework from Berlin called phenomenology. "You see," he says, "if you are a phenomenologist, you can talk about this cocktail and make philosophy out of it!"

Absorbing and Thoughtful
Revisado: 09-15-16
This philosophical biography definitely leans more heavily towards biography but it seems indispensable for figures who stressed bringing back attention to the experience of life. Does a good job of conveying ideas of many interesting figures.
I particularly liked that it didn't approach each individual philosopher in their own section but continued with the story of the older ones even after they were out of the spotlight.

Historia
Perhaps one of the most revolutionary works of philosophy ever presented, The Phenomenology of Spirit is Hegel's 1807 work that is in numerous ways extraordinary. A myriad of topics are discussed, and explained in such a harmoniously complex way that the method has been termed Hegelian dialectic. Ultimately, the work as a whole is a remarkable study of the mind's growth from its direct awareness to scientific philosophy, proving to be a difficult yet highly influential and enduring work.

Difficult, But Rewarding. Requires Several Listens
Revisado: 09-14-16
Hegel was responding to the rapid series of arguments that developed after the philosophy of Kant who was quickly superseded by Fichte, and Schelling in German Philosophy of the day, all difficult and powerful thinkers. As such, the work not only has difficult thought, but also a lot of terminology and background assumptions that make it a difficult read for someone not aware of Hegel's context. Many of his lectures for students have been written down and he assumes much less prior knowledge and shows he can explain his ideas much more clearly if required. People attempting to go through this work may want to skip the preface which Hegel wrote last as it has a lot of terminology explained later in the book. A secondary text or lectures will also be helpful to anyone not versed in the history of philosophy.
This is one of the most essential philosophical texts and very useful for people who want to think clearly and be able to explain their basis for knowledge of things. The method seems difficult but a lot of the realizations are in keeping with common sense, but Hegel gives a much more detailed account of just how your common sense works to better understand and express yourself. You may not get everything on the first listen, but there's so much rewarding thought in here that it's wonderful to be able to listen to from time to time and become more familiar with this wonderful book.

Historia
G.W.F. Hegel (1770–1831) was one of the most important and sophisticated modern thinkers, but only now are his substantial contributions to metaphysics, epistemology, political philosophy, aesthetics, philosophy of history, and philosophy of religion gaining the recognition they deserve. This companion is the first collection of essays to do justice to the extraordinary richness and diversity of Hegel's philosophy.

Incredibly Helpful, though Not for Beginners
Revisado: 09-14-16
This is an amazing collection of essays from some the greatest Hegel scholars. The essays tackle lots of important issues from each of Hegel's major works and then many essays compares him to other important philosophers who have engaged with him.
The breadth of issues discussed may not make this the best introduction for a total beginner, but this kind of material will engage someone somewhat familiar with Hegel with many important questions surrounding his philosophy. Hope we see many more audiobooks like this for people who are interested in being able to study philosophy in depth by audio. I'll definitely be consulting he audiobook a lot as I study Hegel.
