The narrator is very versatile between masculine and feminine as well as adapting to the personalities who are well sketched out by the author. The characters are also described through very bonded relationships. Then there are the political and racial conflicts that create this very real fictional world.

This is the second time I’m listening to this series and I’m sure I’ll be back again!

The premise of the story line is good but falls short of its potential.

Crime solved in wink of an eye. Most character sketches seem to be stereotypical.

I really dislike the virtual
voice. The inflections and nuance is at the level of a third grader. It takes away from the narration so the story sounds flat.

I am divorced. My sister and I are both divorced. One of us with children. One not. Just like the main characters in this story.

This story was a gentle way to see my story unfold in a way that taught me that forgiveness does not mean pain free. It’s ok to feel pain even when forgiving. It’s ok to not want to be friends with the perpetrator of pain. And maybe love can happen again.

Sometimes story comes along and gives a new perspective to one’s own story.

The autobiography comes across authentic and sincere. The author reads w clarity.

I found it very connective to my own experience with parents who had treated me like a chattel.

Being a Christian, many of her acknowledgement that God was pursuing her also resonated w me.

So many ruined lives in one book.
So well written in describing so much unloved and how they were hurt by the ones who should have loved them

Just wow over how well the author got to the heart

Narrator is excellent in embodying male and female characters

The characters are enjoyable and lack depth. The story is entertaining and don’t have a lot of complexity.

It a nice light mystery.

It was character assassination from the get go! Hamish was so out of character when he immediately expressed a desire to kill someone.

I felt that Hamish’s character was not in keeping with his normally high tolerance and forgiving nature.

Hamish’s personality keeps this series afloat! To tamper with that formula is heart-wrenching!

It’s always refreshing to hear a modern mystery without all the racy stuff. What a lovely imagery of a community that cares for each other and the genuine response to community members that are less than likable.

I typically don’t listen to American writers because they tend to be racy so this is a series appreciated.

When I heard the first book, I found Lady Rose so infuriating that I decided not to listen any more.

Since I ran out of Audible credits, I came back for a second try. From a historical perspective it’s quite an insight into a society where woman can’t be free. Now I’m beginning to enjoy the series as a pleasant pastime listening.

Can’t help anxiously waiting for Lady Rose and Captain to fall in love already so they can be partners in crime solving.

Hamish McBeth is like comfort food. Between the writer and narrator I am always confident to be served great narration and writing that is of pleasant writing that doesn’t contain excessive spice!
