If youve read Smoak, Reacher, or Ryan....stay away

I had high hopes, got nearly done with third book, bought the 3 book starter set.
I was excited for a female spy/investigator character. But holy hell, so much fantasy that doesnt work in the real world, not enough dog character, too much fluff, nor enough specifics. These people would be dead in another storyline.

But seriously, I listened without reading any reviews, that way I am always unbiased, and have an open opinion.

After finishing the Oracle, and reading some other reviews, I fall in the middle. JJ tried his best, and I'm a big fan of Percy, but as a audible performer, this just wasn't his best. too monotone and not enough variation in the voices. I became confused occasionally on who was supposed to be talking.

Story wise... someone else said it beautifully....."meh"
that's it. just meh. The few continuity errors drove me nuts! and Nate... NATE! what an Ass. can't say more than that without spoiling the story, because there's not much to "Nathaaaaaniel"

40 minutes of Rum, 5 hours of..

You'll know about the origins of Rum (spoiler; not that exciting), but that only takes a few minutes of facts and story. The rest of the lecture, John Donoghue, presented it as a narrative of political dribble. and Rum becomes a background character. I felt as if he was pushing the Sins of the past and remarking on the fact that there was Rum on the table.

Story, Yes, it filled a gap, but not very, shall we say...smoothly.
I felt as some of the characters needed more building, and less of them trying to fit today's mold. I found it very hard to stay with it in the beginning, and frustrating towards the 3/4 mark. The ending felt rushed and just didn't get there.
Performance wise, some of the voices and characters were spot on, but the ones that needed to be, were dreadfully forced upon me. A few of the accents just didn't jive for me.
Production, I know it's a star wars novel, and I'm ok with the sound Fx, but the CONSTANT "humming/machining/roar" of background noise did not do me any favors. in fact, I could not use ear buds, but could only listen in the car to keep from going mad.

so, overall a 3.
less background crap, a bit more story, and less of a rush job, and this would be a 5.

close but not really.

first off, Will Wheaton dose a superb job narrating. He really does bring the characters to life. Earnest Cline does know how to bring retro to his story as in Ready Player One, in Armada, it seems forced. also there are way too many plot holes and just downright unbelievable action in Armada that I found myself annoyed by it. overall, interesting story, but too far fetched. Will nails the read though!!!

Story detail and Wheaton

loved it. story is excellent with more detail than the film. you can easily picture the places and actions Ernest Cline takes you to. Will Wheaton is superb at conveying the action, detail and emotions of the characters including the OASIS. thanks Wil.
