Historia
After the National Crime Agency cracks a major drug gang, junior barrister Julia McGann finds herself defending the violent enforcer Terrence Bonner. This high-profile case is a coup for her, but almost immediately things start to go wrong. Intruders break into her house, and then a young girl turns up at her door with a horrifying story to tell. Three months later, DCI Craig Gillard and his team struggle with the shocking murder of a much-respected local headmaster, found dead in his own car. The baffling crime fills the newspapers but yields few clues.

Do Not Buy It Does Not End Well.
Revisado: 01-25-25
A terrible, illogical ending. This has got to be Louth’s attempt to send his readers a hidden message. Well hidden. He surely didn’t want to send the message I received.

Historia
In 2012, Dr. Karen King, a star religion professor at Harvard, announced a breathtaking discovery just steps from the Vatican: she’d found an ancient scrap of papyrus in which Jesus calls Mary Magdalene “my wife”. The mysterious manuscript, which King provocatively titled “The Gospel of Jesus’s Wife”, had the power to topple the Roman Catholic Church. It threatened not just the all-male priesthood, but centuries of sacred teachings on marriage, sex, and women’s leadership, much of it premised on the hallowed tradition of a celibate Jesus.

Historia
Greg Mortenson has built a global reputation as a selfless humanitarian and children's crusader, and he's been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. He is also not what he appears to be. As acclaimed author Jon Krakauer discovered, Mortenson has not only fabricated substantial parts of his bestselling books, but has also misused millions of dollars donated by unsuspecting admirers like Krakauer himself. This is the tragic tale of good intentions gone very wrong.

Historia
Terrifying things are happening to Kay Weden, a 40-something single mom and high school teacher in Salisbury, North Carolina. Despite having no known enemies, Kay's home, car, and peace of mind are under attack throughout 1993. Most chilling of all are the senseless attacks on her only son and the shot fired in the night through a wall of her house, which narrowly misses his head as he sleeps.

My headline is accurate and though I like details, this book stands out as way too long with parts that I found boring and unnecessary for the story.

An Interesting true to life account of a tragic murder by a policeman. Virtual Voice worked for me.
Revisado: 01-28-24
I listened the author’s other book “murder at the back door”. This time I found virtual voice easy to listen to.
(It would be nice if some app maker e.g. for an iPhone, could provide virtual voice to read other texts.)
No surprises or tension in the investigation. But worth a recreational listen as a free book in my library.
Two oddities, but only a bit distracting. The common conversational word “YEAH” is pronounced “YEA”. Second, I don’t know if it’s the author or virtual voice, but every time the two state names involved are mentioned the name is stated as “NH” or “MA”

Historia
Greed, arrogance and lust led Robert Anderson to kill his wife of nearly twenty years. He was a pillar of the community. He owned four Service Master franchises, he was a Kiwanis member and former President, and a former teacher and Athletic Director at Salem High School. The combination of his love for money and infatuation with a younger girl led him to the brutal beating of his wife and subsequent attempt to frame an employee and former student. The death of his wife in Lawrence Mass, was considered an extreme act of rage and was initially attributed to the violence that was pervasive in...

Interesting As Free Book worth a recreational listen
Revisado: 01-26-24
First virtual voice book I’ve listened to. You can tell for example reading “Nine Eleven” as “Nine One One”. Even so it was listenable though it lacked the extra emotion, emphasis etc. a good live reader would have provided. While interesting, the investigation lacked anything unusual, difficult or surprising. It was simply a logical investigation which one hopes the police would always do. There was nothing at the trial that raised any question of guilt and thus there was a quick guilty verdict.
