This was quite repetitive, predictable, and boring. Tried to hang in there, but.... time to move on. I wish I had bailed out much earlier than I did. I am just guessing maybe it isn't just the narrator that is AI on this one?

This was laugh out loud hilarious for me at times. Not too deep, not too unpredictable, but totally fun and entertaining! Can't wait for the next book!

The lesbian voice is vastly under-represented in literature, therefore I am so grateful to have found this memoir, and hope for more like it.

I enjoyed the historic aspect.... the explanation of the lesbian culture of the time period: one needed to have quite a thick skin, most especially if you couldn't pass for straight.

I wish I could have warmed up to the characters more... I think that was more due to me than the book itself, and I can imagine others who read it will warm up just fine :-). I definitely will look into the other books by the author.

Thank you for writing this... for sharing your life with us.

The protagonist's story touched me... enjoyed the history included, liked the way the author went from the present to the past through the letters... enjoyed the lesbian content... I feel we need more well written literature from this perspective...

Yes, more, please!

Thanks for another great installment to this series. I only wish it would get picked up by Hulu, so we could watch Jennie and Kathryn's continued adventures! Never mind, then we would lose Abby Craden's sparkling narrative...

I really loved and appreciated this book - in so many ways. If you are not gay, but wanting to understand the challenges of what it's like to be gay, I highly recommend this story.

I found it quite heartfelt, and as a lesbian myself, truly relatable in terms of the battle with internal shame, wanting to fit in... to "just be like everybody else". Now, at 65, it's so wonderful to watch the world growing and changing in such a positive way. Still many battles and bridges to cross, but books like this keep us moving in the right direction. Thanks

Great narration, and great story - I feel has to be based on fact even though they don't say that. My heart went out to Evelyn and Celia, and to all the characters. To achieve fame is hard enough in and of itself, and the price paid sometimes.... heart wrenching. I'm so grateful that the world is slowly changing, and people can step out of the required boxes of society more and more. You shouldn't have to die to tell (and live) your true life story.

First, I want to say that I loved this interview, and think you are both just wonderful. This was a touching and interesting discussion, and I am looking forward to future podcasts, and checking out Sharon's memoir, Apparently There Were Complaints.

BUT :-), that being said, I had to let you know that I think I was the only lesbian on the planet at that time that actually got the weak in the knees tingles for Lacey, not Cagney! Who can understand these things?! Not me. Maybe it was because I identified more with Cagney as a person. Dunno. Anyone else out there have that happen to them?! :-)

And, of course, I thought it might also be worth mentioning the age old dream of a Cagney and Lacey remake with them falling in love and living happily ever after. A slow burn romance. Can't wait to see that before I check out, for sure ( 65 here, clock is ticking ). Fingers crossed. I felt they had such chemistry in that show!

Thank you, again, for bringing smiles to my face in this interview. Love you both. :-)

In my dream world, great books like this would be made into Hallmark or better yet Netflix movies with lots of sex and we would all live happily ever after.

Thoroughly pleasant listen for me. I find this narrator fantastic, and this book series has felt like a classic 1950s movie (with sex), full of comfortable and humorous tropes and metaphors, yet with enough unpredictability to keep it interesting. Borders on the edge of unbelievability, and that's just the way I like it! Waiting with bated breath for Book 4! If you haven't read this series yet, I highly recommend starting at the beginning.
