Historia
Kaiju: Battlefield Surgeon. Survival horror. One of the most brutal, most terrifying full-immersion games ever made. A place where fantasy characters such as elves and dwarves clash with technology, where giant monsters roam the hills, entrusted with protecting the gates of heaven from the demons who would tear it all down. A game where one plays the last of the battlefield surgeons: a healer tasked with keeping the behemoths alive at all costs. But on this server, they don't care about the game. They've come because of the game's most unique feature: full pain.

Dark
Revisado: 03-23-25
it is a very dark story. it's an ugly take on litrpg, grounded in brutalism. Given the nature of what occurs, it was delivered too flatly to feel realistic. As if the entire story was told by someone in shock. I did not care for it in the end and longer for it to be over. The fact that I continued to the end is why I rated it so highly. Clearly despite my negative feelings I had to see the tale to its conclusion. Something here is compelling but I doubt I would ever recommend this one

Historia
Some people just knew how to go out in style. Tim had never been one of those guys. Tim was always a planner. The plan was to get into college, graduate, and find a well-paying job. That plan was coming together nicely until he saw a presentation to get paid to play The Etheric Coast. At his graduation ceremony. After watching the company's employee recruitment video, Big Richie's words had a whole new meaning. He could spend his life going from a cubicle at work to a one-bedroom apartment and back again...or enter a virtual world of unlimited possibilities.

over the top girl power and moral to the story moments
Revisado: 12-19-24
I had a few issues that yanked me out of the story every time.
First a full immersion vr world is in the future for us, but the characters in this story constantly make reference to current topics and some even slightly dated topics. Not really something you should see in story a few decades away at the soonest.
Second also time related. in the future there should be less expectation of gender bias than we have even now. So instead of just seeing female characters/ players as people they are treated to over the top girl power "they can do it too" crap that feels forced and annoying. Couple that with the inner monologue moral to story moments that last tens of minutes sometimes is very immersion breaking.
These things nearly made me quit listening multiple times. The boss fights that took three or four hits to finish also left this feeling not very game like. There is enough good in this story to carry bad but only just. The five star reviews cover the good bits well enough.

a good start
Revisado: 09-15-24
the virtual voice isn't as terrible as some. though it really seemed like the narrator had a bit of lisp which was odd. regardless of poor narration the story was ok but started horribly, bad enough I almost stopped in the first three minutes. it got better quickly and had me laughing at the MC before long.

Several thousand gamers were summoned from Earth to another world in the hopes they would be able to prevent the annihilation of the last stronghold of humanity. For many, it's kidnapping. Too much mispronunciation
Revisado: 09-10-24
The computer generated voice really hurts the story. I can't tell if the poor delivery made the story less immersive or if the MC just felt limp. It was overall mid.

ai voice needs work
Revisado: 02-12-24
I have listened to a few of these ai read stories and I generally don't dislike them too much, there are always issues. Not so with this title. I can't tell if it was the delivery or the story that I disliked most.
The strident almost British accented female voice was nearly monotone. it was difficult to tell which character was which. The author sprinkled in acronyms that the AI tried to pronounce leaving your brain on full stop while you attempt to process. Constantly being kicked out of immersion by bad reading definitely didn't help this tale.
Now on to the story. Feels like the author doesn't really know anything about gaming. The main characters make bad decisions frequently and compound them regularly but then power through like the total bad ass new characters they are?
For quite a while almost every conversation started with or revolved around being tired and needing sleep. This constant insipid complaining grates on your nerves since there is very little else to focus on. it didn't even lead to anything so why is it so prevelant? to be absolutely fair I semi tuned out so it may have and I just didn't notice.
And wow, almost everyone in this game is some form of douche or another. The shocking level of toxicity makes it feel like it was written entirely by trolls.
I didn't enjoy this grind even once.
