1. It's true; the narrator can't do a good southern male narration to save her life, but it doesn't ruin the listen.
2. Like too many contemporary novels, there are some instances of poor grammar that make me flinch (singulars/plurals, 'I' vs. 'me', mixed verb tenses, etc), but they're not so frequent or glaring that they can't be overlooked.
3. (This is probably the most disruptive element for me) The character of Tempest Cassidy looks nothing like the heroine in /Stud Muffin/. Her opinions, responses, and even her role in the bakery make it clear this book, which takes place after /Stud Muffin/, has know knowledge of the first story. They should have made a new character for the role of Tempest in this book.

The book is delicious and the narration was marvelous. Rosamund Pike was soothing but animated and did a great job of maintaining the different characters and personalities. And, of course, there's Jane Austen. Her books are my comfort food, especially Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion.

I started listening to this book as a distraction while mowing the lawn. Around 10:30 I adjusted the speed to 1.75x so I could finish it before falling asleep. When I awoke, I re-listened to my favorite scenes about a million times at regular speeds. I've been allergic to great literature and articles this year, not having the emotional or intellectual fortitude such books require and only reading what is easy and gratifying as escapism. I was not prepared for all that this book made me feel. More beautiful and romantic for it's honesty about the cost and bravery that is required to grow oneself--to claim one's responsibility and power in becoming and to heal from painful experience by acting on its lessons. That's not to say it doesn't end with a tidy HEA. It still gave me the satisfying resolution I needed without the residual anxiety and disappointment in characters and situations that the more complex and evocative literature tends to leave me to wrestle with. Just what I needed. Highly recommended. I think this is her best yet.

The pace was great, the characters were the same I had fallen in love with in the original trilogy, and the author even developed and grew them. This author also brought an enriching humor and optimism that somehow made the characters even more believable. The story was still, at points, devastating and dark, but there was an appreciation of humanity and the pleasure of choosing to enjoy what is light, enabling us to descend into the darkness without losing ourselves in it.
