Historia
A novel written by Ellie’s first love, Jack Bennett, tells the story of a young man and woman who meet at the water’s edge and fall madly in love, only to have their romance cut short by forces beyond their control. Ellie quickly realizes this is no ordinary story; it’s their story. Captivated by Jack’s words, she immerses herself in the pages, reliving the adventures they shared that magical summer. To her astonishment, hidden among the tales of star-gazing and stolen kisses is a detail that has her questioning everything.

Predictable
Revisado: 07-04-24
Perfect book to be made into a Hallmark movie. Bland, dull, predictable, and lots of undeveloped characters and plot lines.

Excellent series
Revisado: 09-11-23
The entire Sean Duffy series is excellent. I rarely give five stars, but the whole series gets fives across the board. The combination of the writing plus the narration make me wish there was a six star option. Start at the beginning and read them all. You won’t regret it.

Historia
It arrives in the morning. An old-fashioned airmail envelope addressed to Detective Nikki Galena. Inside, on a single sheet of blue airmail paper, are three words: You failed me. The second airmail envelope arrives at Nikki's home address. The same message. Only this time, it's followed by four names: Alexandra Cornfield, Ruth Baker, Bethany Lyons, Leanne Delaney. Four missing women. Four local women whose bodies were never found.

Rushed ending, overdramatic narrator, characters a bit too earnest and perfect. Liked earlier ones in the series better. Not sure if writing has changed or if I
have.

Historia
True crime writer Wylie Lark doesn’t mind being snowed in at the isolated farmhouse where she’s retreated to write her new book. A cozy fire, complete silence. It would be perfect, if not for the fact that decades earlier, at this very house, two people were murdered in cold blood and a girl disappeared without a trace.

Predictable storyline made worse with narration
Revisado: 03-11-22
I don't understand why so many raved about this book. The "whodunnit" was more of a "yep, he did it. Saw it in the first few chapters". And the main character does so many stupid things that she might as well go into the basement in a teenage horror flick. I finished it in the hope it would somehow get interesting, but I really thought about discarding it with about four hours to go, and I wish I had. The narrator seem to think that folks in the midwest speak like southerners. Farmers all sound like country hicks, right? And there's a strange "lightness" to the main character's voice when she's in the midst of mortal danger. All in all, I can't recommend this audio book at all.

It’s a no for me.
Revisado: 10-20-21
I really wanted to like it as I love the Tom Thorne series, but I just didn’t. Despite the fact that there were two murders, there was no little drama and no buildup. There wasn’t even much of a plot. It was mostly the musings inside the head of someone with mental illness, which isn’t my idea of a good read. I finished it, but I wish I hadn’t wasted the time.

terrible narrator
Revisado: 06-28-20
I read one of the later Inspector Rebus series and enjoyed it so I wanted to go back and start at the beginning of the series. I'll head back to the library, because the same narrator does several of the audiobooks and I thought he sounded like an overdramatic thespian wanna-be in a comedy skit. It really ruined the book for me.

Melodrama
Revisado: 05-22-20
I made it all the way through this book, but considered stopping many times. I wish I had. It never got better. A melodramatic romance with unbelievable characters trying to be a serious mystery. The story wasn't helped by the narrator, who over-enunciated everything to the effect of losing any believability the dialogue might have had.
