Enlightening Story!
Revisado: 03-02-25
I learned a lot about ketosis from a slightly different angle through Grandma Rose’s story. Dr. Boz does an excellent job of making complex information very accessible.

Historia
Dr. Marty Makary is co-developer of the life-saving checklist outlined in Atul Gawande's best-selling The Checklist Manifesto. As a busy surgeon who has worked in many of the best hospitals in the nation, he can testify to the amazing power of modern medicine to cure. But he's also been a witness to a medical culture that routinely leaves surgical sponges inside patients, amputates the wrong limbs, and overdoses children because of sloppy handwriting. Over the last 10 years, neither error rates nor costs have come down, despite scientific progress.

Deeply Informative
Revisado: 01-23-25
I listened to Blindspots and immediately bought Unaccountable because it was so refreshing to hear truthful, honest and detailed information about modern doctoring. I have no doubt that I will re-listen to certain sections as life unfolds for my aging parents and myself.

In Blind Spots, Dr. Makary explores the latest research on critical topics ranging from the microbiome to childbirth to nutrition and longevity and more, revealing the biggest blind spots of modern medicine and tackling the most urgent yet unsung issues in our $4.5 trillion health care ecosystem. The path to medical mishaps can be absurd, entertaining, and jaw-dropping—but the truth is essential to our health.

Jaw Dropping!
Revisado: 11-18-24
We MUST be able to challenge the dogma and question everything. I was especially disgusted with the chapters regarding our blood supply and recent and current child birth practices. We need an absolute overhaul of the NIH, CDC, FDA, etc.

Whether you're a new nurse or a veteran member of the clan, the nursing learning curve is a vast one. Part how-to guide with a touch of memoir thrown in, take the time to laugh and cry with an author who says what everyone else in the field is thinking.

A well-Rounded Glimpse into Bedside Nursing
Revisado: 10-28-23
I found Sonja’s story engaging and well written and nicely narrated. I could have done without the G-damns, but otherwise enjoyed the listen and would recommend it for anybody considering nursing as a career.

In the classic The Boy Who Was Raised as a Dog, Dr. Perry explains what happens to the brains of children exposed to extreme stress and shares their lessons of courage, humanity, and hope. Only when we understand the science of the mind and the power of love and nurturing can we hope to heal the spirit of even the most wounded child.

An IMPORTANT Book
Revisado: 01-26-20
This book changed the way I view humanity in so many important ways. I bought it to better understand myself and ended up better understanding all people, myself included. It engendered in me a new wealth of compassion for people and an understanding of their behaviors that I am so grateful to have.

Beautiful Story!
Revisado: 12-04-14
What did you love best about Heft?
The insight into people who are so often judged only from the outside. We are such an intolerant society and this book would be an excellent English lit book for junior and high schoolers.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Heft?
When Aurther tells the story about visiting his father after the death of his mother - it helped explain who he was and the depth of his pain.
What does Kirby Heyborne and Keith Szarabajka bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The innate innocence and goodness of both characters would have been somewhat diminished without the skill of these readers and that is so integral to the development of both characters.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Both - not extreme in either case, but very moving and joyful.
Any additional comments?
Arthur's complete acceptance of Yolanda without pigeon-holing her by stereotype was really sweet.
