Started out with promise….
Revisado: 04-30-24
it starts at an interesting angle, a character with an outsized crush on someone who is oblivious to her. The story really bogged down, and there is a lot of casual antisemitism, which kind is hard to listen to.
The story really bogs down, and some of the characters are really annoying.
The detective himself is almost completely superfluous to the book, he hardly figures it all.
She can write well, there are some interesting parts, but the ending was a big disappointment.
PSA- there is a part where the characters are feeding walnuts to a dachshund - note, walnuts are toxic to dogs, don’t try this at home

Historia
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

I seem to be in the minority, but I found it really badly written and full of cliches.
I gave two hours, and then I stop torturing myself, I really wasn’t enjoying it

Historia
Two estranged sisters, Lillian and Adelia, struggle to come to terms after the mother they've believed to be dead for the past 15 years actually passes away. Confused and in shock, they travel together to the isolated village of their childhood to claim the farm that was passed on to them. There’s comfort in returning to this place of their birth, where a simpler, rustic life feels possible - but the sisters quickly realize that something is very wrong with the village and that their mother was hiding more than they could have ever imagined.

it’s too late for me, but you can still save yourself.
Revisado: 08-18-21
You know how in horror movies, when the character is about to go in the basement, and everyone in the movie theater yells out “DON’T GO DOWN THERE!”?
Let me save you two hours of your life……..
DON’T…..READ……THIS……BOOK!!!
The worst audiobook I have ever read/listened to.
The first bit was promising…
but don’t be sucked in-
It derails into a hot mess pretty quickly, and the narrator is awful, overly dramatic and breathy
here’s a sample sentence…,
“She should have been pregnant with Lillian then, looking desperately for anything about her dear sister that would help take away the ghastly last image that was currently haunting Adelia into a stupor”

I would love to know how this ends, it was making me too anxious to finish
Revisado: 07-29-21
have 4 1/2 hours to go, and I just can’t make myself listen to anymore, it is so anxiety making.
It’s very well written, and very well performed, but it was a story where you can see how someone’s innocent actions are twisted and distorted and used against them,, their situation getting worse and worse and worse.
If you like psychological thrillers, I would highly recommend it, if you have a low tolerance for anxiety, stay clear

Maybe have the narrator pronounce the main characters name correctly…
Revisado: 06-04-21
really disliked it,
I didn’t catch that it was a novel- I’m not crazy about this kind of thing, which projects conversation and actions onto an actual historical person.
The narration was mixed, narrator is able to do a large number of voices, but some of these seem entirely inappropriate, Lord Furness, instead of speaking in the “high received pronunciation” of the upper upper classes, sounds like a country pub keeper, and Thelma’s brother sounds like a parody of a 1940’s New York cabbie.
btw- Her name was pronounced in the Spanish style, “Telma”, not “Thelma”

Historia
When they met at an airport, it was love at first sight. But in time, everything collapsed. As an unnamed but unforgettable woman muses on her life—from meet cute to marriage and parenthood—her recollections inexorably build to a devastating truth. In this shattering performance, Carey Mulligan, star of the critically lauded drama An Education, captivates audiences with playwright Dennis Kelly’s harrowing ruminations on family, ambition, gender, and violence.

uh, I COULD put it down
Revisado: 03-21-18
What would have made The Woman in the Window better?
I really don't get the rave reviews. I could only make it through a few hours. I hated the narration, her voice was so irritating and over done, and the story was way over written.
Would you ever listen to anything by A. J. Finn again?
nope
How could the performance have been better?

very difficult to follow, probably better to read rather than to listen to
Revisado: 12-29-17
it's challenging to keep track of who is who and to follow the characters because the names are unfamiliar, and some are very similar.
sometimes, the rich florid style is interesting, but like baklava, a little goes a long way- afterwhile, it's a little bit too rich.
I made it over 2/3 of the way through, but then it started to feel repetitive, and I realized I wasn't enjoying it at all.

Historia
The superlatively analytical Inspector Hemingway is confronted by a murder that seems impossible – no one was near the murder weapon at the time the shot was fired. Everyone on the scene seems to have a motive, not to mention the wherewithal to commit murder, and alibis that simply don't hold up.
