Can’t do it alone
Revisado: 07-04-24
I liked that the characters needed others to flourish, survive, and just exist. I was not as comfortable with all of the killing. However, I can imagine thrill-seekers may find life-ending violence entertaining.

Greed and Power
Revisado: 06-29-24
The narration was good, characters well thought out, and storyline easy to follow and enjoy. The main character’s roles went from humble to powerful. Nice touches.

Historia
FBI Agent Nell Flynn hasn't been home in 10 years. Nell and her father, Homicide Detective Martin Flynn, have never had much of a relationship. When Martin Flynn dies in a motorcycle accident, Nell returns to the house she grew up in so that she can spread her father's ashes and close his estate. At the behest of her father's partner, Detective Lee Davis, Nell becomes involved in an investigation into the murders of two young women in Suffolk County. The further Nell digs, the more likely it seems to her that her father should be the prime suspect.

Strong female lead
Revisado: 06-27-24
Main character was strong yet vulnerable, smart yet questioning. The storyline mirrored current issues but had enough dissimilarities to warrant a continuous read.

The narration was laughably horrible
Revisado: 06-20-24
The author was very clear about her values and political position. The repetitive use of “honey, sister, donut breath” was unnerving. But the most difficult to bear was the narration! Voice inflection was displaced and in many instances non-existent. The listen was the worse I’ve ever encountered.

Lack Luster Narration
Revisado: 06-17-24
The story was futuristic with a contemporary feel. The narration did not incorporate voice inflection where needed. I would have enjoyed a less abrupt end to book 10.

Historia
It’s the summer of 2019, and Professor Pi Suleman is a Black man from Memphis with a lot to endure - not only as a Black man in Trump’s America but in his hard-earned career as an adjunct professor. Pi is constantly forced to bite his tongue in the face of one of his tenured colleague’s prejudices and microaggressions. At the same time, he’s being blackmailed by a powerful professor who threatens to claim he has assaulted her, when in fact the truth is just the opposite, trapping him in a he-said-she-said with a white woman that, in this society, Pi knows he will never win.

Lessons and experiences of everyone
Revisado: 06-21-23
I liked the messages and historical references, putting in context the lives of people of color across the US and beyond. I did have a challenge with the repetitiveness of the injustices and plight of people of color. It even more so, the detailed and explicit detail in the sexual experiences overshadowed the primary lessons and messages embedded in the story. Overall, the book provided historical context and expressed the sentiment of so many people of all races and ethnicities. The story is a part of everyone’s story.

Historia
When Marshall McEwan left his hometown at age 18, he vowed never to return. The trauma that drove him away ultimately spurred him to become one of the most successful journalists in Washington DC. But just as the political chaos in the nation’s capital lifts him to new heights, Marshall is forced to return home in spite of his boyhood vow. His father is dying, his mother is struggling to keep the family newspaper from failing, and the town is in the midst of an economic rebirth that might be built upon crimes that reach into the state capitol - and perhaps even to Washington.

The storyline, narrator, and pace are notable, in a pleasant way. The characters are all hardcore, and, as the reader, I find myself ready to recommend this very long book to family and friends.

Audible are delighted to present Sleeping Beauty, a unique listening experience for all the family to enjoy over the Christmas season. This exclusive new audio drama has been created in collaboration with the London Symphony Orchestra and is inspired by Tchaikovsky's beloved ballet music. Marty Ross’s reimagining of the famous fairy story draws on the worlds of folktale and the Brothers Grimm, while the LSO's specially-commissioned new recording, conducted by Gavin Sutherland, weaves through the drama like a rich and majestic film score.

It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Plight of the Unsuspecting
Revisado: 01-06-23
The realistic yet sad reality of society’s forced social segregation on youth from different sides of the physical racial-divide is only surpassed by group hate and judgment are central to this realistic portrayal of 1980’s south. Easy listen. Only improvement would be to lessen the stereotypical dialect of people of color and southern white people.
