Historia
Texas, 1921. A time of abundance. The Great War is over, the bounty of the land is plentiful, and America is on the brink of a new and optimistic era. But for Elsa Wolcott, deemed too old to marry in a time when marriage is a woman’s only option, the future seems bleak. Until the night she meets Rafe Martinelli. By 1934, the world has changed; millions are out of work and drought has devastated the Great Plains. Elsa must make an agonizing choice: fight for the land she loves or leave it behind and go west, to California, in search of a better life for her family.

It’s solidified: Kristin Hannah is my favorite author
Revisado: 02-25-25
Everything that Kristin writes is AMAZING - and all so very different. This story that occurs during the Dust Bowl of the 1930’s kept me up far into the night as I listened to it nearly in a straight shot, complete with laughter and many sobbing tears. The emotion she captures on the page is so wrenching and real. I need to decompress but there is one more book of hers I haven’t read yet that is calling to me. (And I f you haven’t yet, you must listen to The Great Alone!)

Historia
Set in a Lower East Side tenement in the early days of the COVID-19 lockdowns, Fourteen Days is an irresistibly propulsive collaborative novel from the Authors Guild, with an unusual twist: each character in this diverse, eccentric cast of New York neighbors has been secretly written by a different, major literary voice—from Margaret Atwood and John Grisham to Tommy Orange and Celeste Ng.

Fascinating premise
Revisado: 07-27-24
The premise of this book intrigued me. It was set up beautifully to allow multiple authors to write parts of the novel. I found it to be fascinating in parts and not my style at other times which aligns with my author preferences, I’m sure. I found myself trying to guess who authored which parts of the book. At the end I did not take the time to download the PDF to discover who did what. I will say, the ending surprised me.

A lovely story of finding yourself…
Revisado: 07-23-24
This was a cute story, occasionally slow, but certainly worth finishing. I do wish there had been an epilogue with a little more to the happy ending.

It ended tooooooo soon!
Revisado: 05-15-24
I’m not sure why I picked this book up to begin with, but I’m very glad that I did. The reviews seem to be from people who had read this author before and enjoyed their novels. Haywood was new for me, and after a confusing start to the story, which I hung in for, I was enthralled by the narration, the plot twist, and the humor was unbelievable! People in my office wondered why I was chuckling to myself. The story ended too soon - I can’t wait for the sequel!

Historia
What do you do when everyone around you has what you want but can’t have? For Sophie Lefebvre, the answer was simple - accept the position as governess to the pompous Earl of Wycliff’s sister, Gertrude. Rude, arrogant and absorbed with his wealth, his presence is a hard task to endure, but far better than the pain of watching others have what she cannot. Claveston St. John, Earl of Wycliff, was smitten the moment he laid eyes on Lady Tate’s companion at the wedding of his good friend, William Pierce. When in jest he offered her a job as his sister’s governess, he never imagined she ...

The story was shallow and the narration monotone
Revisado: 05-08-24
I was intrigued by the AI narration but soon learned that it was monotonic which made it very difficult to follow. I often was unsure who was speaking since all the characters sounded the same. And the main character was supposed to French and her accent was remarked on often in the beginning of the story, yet it was British and sounded like all the others. As for the story, it appeared very shallow with little to no character development. I did not “feel” for any of them, though possibly that was partially due to the horrible narration. I stopped reading with only 7 minutes left because I just didn’t care for the book (why I lasted that long is a true mystery). Very disappointing, though it has made me so appreciative of good narrators and how they influence not only the enjoyment of the listen, but also depth of the story. I will not waste my time on an AI read story again. I do NOT recommend.

The American voices were so hard to listen to
Revisado: 04-22-24
The story was ok, might have been good, had I been able to stomach the narrator’s voices for the American characters. They were so grating, I almost stopped listening several times.

Cute story but somehow I didn’t pick up on it being a novella and investing a full credit on a very short story was disappointing.
