Great Story, Terrible Delivery

I lived in the same dormitory as Eric did and met him a number of times. I always thought he was a very nice guy. I graduated before he got the ankle injury. The fact that he graduated , even with the disappointment of the injury, says a great deal about his ability to persevere through adversity. I really hate the Virtual Voice narration, From a tech standpoint it is pretty remarkable but the pronunciation and delivery are very off key. The Eric I met, but did not know intimately, sounded a lot more eloquent than the virtual voice makes him sound.

This book is mainly direction to get naked and listen to a few affirmations that are barely audible over the music. They are repeated incessantly. There is no hypnosis, except in getting you to buy this book. If it improves your sex life, you didn't have one in the first place.

The story is mildly interesting. I have been interested in the Maya for quite some time. The story added very little to what I have picked up over time. I agree with the previous review of the author as narrator. Properly read with a slower, more realistic pace, the story would last at least an hour longer. The ending is probably realistic, but unimaginative. This could have been done so much better.

I made it through five hours and couldn’t continue. This is a vehicle for frat boy humor and gamer jargon with a bit of fifteen year old girl language.

I had an idea what this book would be about from the title. I was wrong. This is a grand-strategy view of the Crimean campaign in WWII. I still don't know why it occurred. Instead of showing the individuals involved (hence the iron crosses reference) the author bombarded us with a huge amount of statistics and unit numbers. I have run into this type of book before and have been unable go go very far into them. The narrator, Michael Prichard, kept the pace up and gave the story as much life as could be given. I did finish it and I learned some things I never knew before or things I did know were put into context, so I'm glad I lasted. The narrator deserves the credit for this.

Use it as an Indication of Conditions

Given the reports of activities of Sven Hassel post war, you have to take this as complete fiction. It is an indication of what the conditions were like on the Russian front. Legion of the Damned was a fairly good book about an aspect of the German army - the punishment battalions. This seems to have strayed from that topic, even though there is some overlap of characters. He keeps adding outrageous characters. The story is stale. The narrator is horrible. He rarely changes inflection, so you can't tell which character is speaking.

I have read this book in print and have always liked it. I don't know if the depiction of Italian politics and national (or lack thereof) identity is accurate now, or even when written. At least it captures the spirit of the Italians. The story line is great. I just have to question the choice of an Aussie with a pronounced accent is the right choice to make us believe he is Italian. On the other hand, the stereotypical Italian accent would be off putting. Maybe an accent like the one the actor Cesare Danova had would work. In any case, the Aussie accent didn't.

A Realistic Look at the American Revolution

I have waited a long time for a non-fiction book like this. It is a warts-and-all look at the revolution. It avoids most of the cliches in other such histories. It does show some of the flaws, or personal interests, in the prominent actors. It also shows that much of the "gentry" who supported the revolution did not do this because of democracy, but in spite of it. It seems as if they were merely after a change in management, from England to themselves. It also shows that much of the progress during and after the revolution was due to the persistence of the common man. I don't know if all of that was Mr. Nash's aim, but that is what I took from the book. I really liked it and will read it again. It is a lot to take in during one reading.

I have listened to the first 9 minutes of this book (after having read it on paper a number of times) and the narrator has mispronounced 3 names incorrectly, including Caidin's and Sakai's. This is going to drive me nuts throughout the rest of the book. Audible should get rid of this version and try again with a better narrator. This is a story worth telling, but the narrator is going to ruin it.

Terrorist motivations make up a very small part of this book. The rest of this relates to how Jesus can save us all, with an enormous amount of bible quotes.
