Historia
Legal Immigrant is Alan Cumming's collection of musings on his experiences as a US citizen, growing older, and what it feels like to be an immigrant in today's America, featuring songs and stories that are as eclectic and idiosyncratic as Alan himself. The audio, recorded live at the Minetta Lane Theatre, is a smorgasbord of genres, styles, and tales. Replete with laughter, tears and, of course, provocation, featuring covers of songs made famous by a diverse array of musical legends.

Historia
Sasha has had it. She cannot bring herself to respond to another inane, “urgent” email or participate in the corporate employee joyfulness program. She hasn’t seen her friends in months. Sex? Seems like a lot of effort. Even cooking dinner takes far too much planning. Sasha has hit a wall. Armed with good intentions to drink kale smoothies, try yoga, and find peace, she heads to the seaside resort she loved as a child. But it’s the off season, the hotel is in a dilapidated shambles, and she has to share the beach with the only other occupant: a grumpy guy named Finn.

Well written plot driven real life story with a dash of romance
Revisado: 09-14-24
Ms. Kinsella juggles the plot lines well in this story of a woman transitioning her life to match what’s important to her. She keeps the characters interesting and consistent. The twists makes sense and kept me engaged. I didn’t expect the direction in which it went but I very much appreciated it. Though this story might get lumped in with romance, it goes far beyond and in different directions to be branded as such.

Kept me glued to the end
Revisado: 05-22-23
I was engrossed in this story from beginning to end. It’s written well - the suspense builds and builds. It’s performed brilliantly by veteran and well trained actors. The ensemble really made this production to me. I was on the edge of my seat!

Embracing story
Revisado: 05-22-23
This play is phenomenal - probably why it won awards…Performances by the actors are solid and make the story come alive. There didn’t need to be so many stage directions for this production. Overall super engaging and surprising. I love the way the play builds and culminates.

Historia
At the age of 26, John Roa was an aspiring but struggling entrepreneur. He was broke, racking up debt, and ready to give up on his dream of being self-made. In a final effort, he founded the design firm ÄKTA, which quickly became one of the fastest growing startups in America, and just five years later, he sold it for a fortune to Salesforce, the largest company in San Francisco. This is his account of rising from a self-described below-average student to becoming a poster boy for the successful young entrepreneur, while nearly destroying himself in the process.

Insight into a world unknown
Revisado: 05-19-22
As a small business owner I’m interested in the entrepreneurs of these fast growing companies. Mr. Roa shares his story in depth. I appreciate his candor though he speaks of the ugly parts of his past with a bit of ego. This is a straight narrative from the beginning of his entrepreneurial life to the sale of his business. The biggest issue I have is that Roa isn’t a great audiobook narrator. He accents odd words and emphasizes most words. A different narrator would have been easier to follow and would have kept me a bit more invested. Overall though, I’m happy to have heard this story.

Historia
We live in difficult times. Life so often seems like a turbulent river threatening to drown us and destroy our world. Why, then, shouldn’t we cling to the certainty of the comfortable - to our deep-seated habits and familiar ways? Because, Pema Chödrön teaches, that kind of fear-based clinging keeps us from the infinitely more powerful experience of being fully alive.

Amazing as always
Revisado: 05-03-22
Pema Chodron has this unbelievably accessible way of explaining how to use Buddhist practice to create a happier life. Here she explains that one thing we need to learn is to live knowing that anything can change at any moment. We can be prisoners of these fears or we can embrace the reality of our situation. And she does it all with a light hand, full of compassion and understanding.

Made me think further about this play
Revisado: 05-01-21
I was so impressed with this production of Streetcar. I’ve seen the play, read and studied the play. This is the first time I saw (well, heard) Stanley’s story not be the primary focus of the production. In this very interesting approach, the women are the center. Somehow they come across as having bigger parts than Stanley. Carla Cugino does great work with Stella - perhaps this is one reason. All performances were phenomenal. And I just LOVED the way New Orleans is brought to life through sound. I felt like I was there more than when I’ve seen the play in person. Wonderful direction. Bravo
