Historia
Forensic psychologist and rookie FBI agent Alexis Forrest returns to her hometown of Broken Hill to investigate the disappearance of a missing teenage girl. Returning to this snowy New England town is the last thing Alexis wants to do. She has a strained relationship with her divorced parents whose relationship did not survive the disappearance and murder of Alexis’ older sister, or her dad’s prison sentence. The circumstances of this girl’s disappearance are surprisingly similar to her sister’s yet the local police aren’t exactly welcoming to an inexperienced FBI agent sent to ...

The narration sounded like a teenager reading a romance novel
Revisado: 09-02-24
Virtual narration needs a LOT of work. The voice is too young and feminine for most of the characters. Sometimes there is little inflection and sometimes too much.
The story is written as though for a high school creative writing class. It is a thinly veiled sloppy romance with a little mystery. Characters are shallow and it ends on a cliff hanger that is obviously set up to require a purchase of the next book. I am not tempted. Glad this was free. I will avoid all virtual narrations in the future.

Disappointed
Revisado: 04-13-23
I really enjoyed all the previous stories about DC Smith. This one was a big disappointment and a slog to read. Something was lost with his retirement and his going out on his own. Rather than the excellent interaction with his colleagues- you get endless self speculation.

Historia
Sherlock Holmes’s discovery of a mysterious musical score initiates a devious Christmas challenge set by Irene Adler, with clues that are all variations on the theme of “theft without theft”, such as a statue missing from a museum found hidden in the room it was taken from. In the snowy London lead-up to Christmas, Holmes’s preoccupation with the “Adler Variations” risks him neglecting the case of his new client, Norwegian arctic explorer Fridtjof Nansen, who has received a series of threats in the form of animal carcasses left on his doorstep.

Convoluted and hard to follow
Revisado: 01-03-23
This story so ridiculous, convoluted and not worth the time or money. I gave up half way through as I lost interested and sis not care how it ended. The narration is not consistent and one moment Holmes sounds like a 3 pack a day smoker and others has a smoother voice. Made it harder to follow. Sorry I wasted a credit on this.

Historia
Kate Connelly may have found the perfect work-from-home Mommy job: private investigator. After all, the hours are flexible, she can bring the baby along on stake-outs, and if you’re going to be up all night anyway, you might as well solve some crimes. But when a body is pulled from San Francisco Bay that may be her brother-in-law, Kate must crack the case faster than you can say “diaper rash” in order to keep her family together.

Fun story, but...
Revisado: 05-16-21
This is a fun cozy and the characters are very likable. The story line about getting used to an new baby while juggling everything else was good. . I would have given it higher marks except that the endless repetition of the entire silly To Do list got old fast. We get that things were constantly changing. The lead character’s internal monologue was very funny. But will not be reading more by this author if a “to do” list continues to play such a major role

Historia
Arrowood is the most ornate and grand of the historical houses that line the Mississippi River in southern Iowa. But the house has a mystery it has never revealed: It’s where Arden Arrowood’s younger twin sisters vanished on her watch 20 years ago - never to be seen again. After the twins’ disappearance, Arden’s parents divorced and the Arrowoods left the big house that had been in their family for generations. And Arden’s own life has fallen apart: She can’t finish her master’s thesis, and a misguided love affair has ended badly.

Good story - excellent narrator
Revisado: 08-26-17
This story was an attention grabber with a lot of suspense and was hard to put down. By the middle I ended up listening through to the end. I thought I had the "what happened to the twins" question figured out and was surprised at the end. Will look for more by this author and narrator.

Historia
In this affectionate and often hilarious inside story of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, her former equerry Major Colin Burgess reveals what life was like living with the most private of all the Royals. Behind Palace Doors is a unique and warmly remembered historic insight into one of our longest-surviving institutions. Constantly fascinating and packed with previously untold stories, this is also a celebration of a life gone - and a way of life fast disappearing.

An odd book. Could have been boiled down to an article
Revisado: 05-08-16
The chatty and friendly narration style of Bob Sinfield is the only good part of this book and the only reason I continued to the end. The story is more about Colin and his responsibilities and how great he is than the Queen Mother. There is a lot about her, but most of it is such obvious juvenile exaggeration it is sad. I did some research and learned that when cornered by a reporter, Colin admitted to exaggerating some of the facts. No kidding! The editors must have taken the day off when this was published. There is so much repetition that it was a bit of a slog getting through it. I thought the parts about Andrew to be especially sad. It may be true, but if so, he does not come across as nice. I hope it is another big exaggeration.
