Historia
In a gay nightclub in Orlando on June 12, 2016, the shooter, Omar Mateen, murdered 49 people and wounded 53 others. The attack was the deadliest act of violence against the LGBTQ+ community in US history and the deadliest terrorist attack in the United States since 9/11. But there’s a story you haven’t heard. The FBI had a secret history with the shooter and his father. To obscure that history, the FBI pushed a false story that the media dutifully carried—that the attacker was a secretly gay Islamist extremist who had chosen to target Pulse and planned the attack for weeks.

Great investigative journalism
Revisado: 04-30-25
This story took a direction. I did not expect it was very informative and the author did a very thorough investigation. The only question that remains is when will the FBI release the files on the shooter?

Historia
The United States Army drafted Steve in 1969. Like many young men, he was unaware of the consequences of being drafted until being sent to Vietnam. Although his father was also drafted into the Armed Forces for World War II, nothing could have prepared Steve for the year of duty to come. Growing up in a large family, he developed a talent early on for storytelling. His accounts of Vietnam will have you imagining him sitting across a campfire telling his story.

Awesome grunts eye view in the field
Revisado: 03-22-25
This first person account is one of the best I have read on Vietnam. As a cold war retired grunt myself I can attest to the craziness that serving in the Infantry is. In Vietnam it had to be totally nuts and this book proves that. I could not stop listening to it. Worth putting into your library.

Great LRP/Ranger History
Revisado: 03-18-25
Do not pass up this book. The story is an awesome recollection of small unit combat in Vietnam. As a former cold war Ranger myself I can attest that that the impact of the LRP/Rangers of the Vietnam era contributed greatly to Ranger history and Lineage. My only complaint is with the AI reading the book and mispronouncing words.

Better than I expected story of a dustoff unit.
Revisado: 03-05-25
This was an easy flowing story. As an Army Retiree I found it very entertaining as I could relate to my early Army days through what the author experienced. I didnt want to stop listening. Would like to have known where the love interest ended up. I would have preferred a real human read the book as the AI voice kept mispronouncing places and words.

One decision can end everything...or lead to unlikely redemption. Millions watched the CBS 60 Minutes special on Jack Barsky in 2015. Now, in this fascinating memoir, the Soviet KGB agent tells his story of gut-wrenching choices, appalling betrayals, his turbulent inner world, and the secret life he lived for years without getting caught.

Great insight into cold war espionage
Revisado: 10-11-24
I was engrossed by the telling of this story of how the KGB and the Stasi operated and recruited. I found it fascinating on how someone from the iron curtain would adjust to America’s freedoms while trying to become a sleeper agent. I was also warmed by the ending. This is a cold war classic.

Historia
On New Year's Eve in 2012, Matthew Schrier was headed home from Syria, where he'd been photographing the country's civil war. Just 45 minutes from the safety of the Turkish border, he was taken prisoner by the al-Nusra Front. Over the next seven months he would endure torture and near starvation in six brutal terrorist prisons. And, eventually, he would escape. In this gripping, raw, and surprisingly funny memoir, Schrier details the horrifying and frequently surreal experience of being a slight, wisecracking Jewish guy held captive by the world's most violent Islamic extremists.

Where has this book been hiding?
Revisado: 09-01-24
This is a must read by anyone in the military or with an interest in the middle east. The authors survival tactics and insights are a case study in what happens in the prisons of these Relious fanatics. His issues with the FBI should not surprise anyone. This Federal Law enforcement organization has become 100% political in this era. Awesome listen by a very good voice reader.

Excellent book on the great native leader and on the founding of the City of Seattle. I was most surprised by how much inter tribal warfare there was. This is a must read. Chief Seattle should listed amongst the greatest Native Leaders in North America.

Historia
The war on the Eastern Front from 1941 to 1945 was the bloodiest combat theater in the bloodiest war in history. Oberleutnant Friedrich Wilhelm Sander experienced this bloodshed firsthand when serving with the 11th Panzer-Regiment. This regiment made up the core of the 6th Panzer-Division, one of Hitler's top armored formations, which was involved in most of the major campaigns on the Eastern Front; campaigns such as Operation Barbarossa and Operation Winter Storm.

A great diary with day by day accounts of combat in the Russian Front. His descriptions on the interactions with the civilian population have changed some of my perspectives. I always thought all of the civilians were partisans which was not the case.

Historia
In the early hours of the 15th May 1982 three SeaKing helicopters lifted off the British aircraft carrier HMS Hermes in complete darkness. On board were 42 soldiers of the Special Air Service - their destination, an enemy airfield whose position threatened the entire British landing force. The stakes were high. If the assault failed, the British could not only lose nearly half its special forces soldiers in one go but an Argentinian strike from the airbase could lead to the failure of the troop landings... and the war itself. Like any SAS raid it was a huge roll of the dice, but as the ...
