Historia
A wealthy shut-in is found murdered in his mansion. Five other people were in the lavish home at the time of the crime—one of whom had motive enough to kill. And Detective Rachel Ryder is determined to discover who. But the more she and partner Rob Bishop learn about the wealthy and unsociable victim, the harder it becomes to narrow down the suspect list. Frustrated, the investigators refuse to allow anyone to leave, until the culprit is unmasked.

cute storyline...just like the clue game narrator must learn to double check and edit their work. she constantly repeats lines and doesn't remove the old takes.

Narrator sounds like AI
Revisado: 04-07-25
While the story was ok, the writing style didn't grab me enough to ride the emotional rollercoaster along with the main character. I just couldn't empathize as much as I wanted to -
The real turn off - I actually had to look at the name of the narrator and was shocked that it wasn't an AI. The narrator incorrectly pronounced words such as "live" - and lacked the lilt and intensity this story deserved. I would expect this poor narration from an AI but not from a person -
I usually enjoy binge listening to a series - unfortunately not this series.

WOW! Disappointing there isn't more!
Revisado: 12-29-24
Found this little gem by accident and so glad I did. While some of the character development could be more massaged, I loved the storyline and the paranormal vein that comingled with the two main characters.
I would like to express my extreme displeasure that only book one (Primal Instinct) is available on audible and book 2 and 3 are not.

WRONG!
Revisado: 11-16-24
I am TOTALLY frustrated with the lack of closure to many unanswered questions -
Was Ms Stewart on a writing deadline and just dropped a bunch of points she brought up in the book?
What happens to the 2 MC's in the end is lame!
What happens to Daria's brother?
What happens to the museum?
What happens to the kid that was led astray?
What happens to the other colleague that was interested in Daria's family work and wanting to find the lost city?
While the story line wasn't as good as Book 1 & 2, I'm so annoyed that there either isn't a Book 4 or the lack of details on how this book shut down.

what is up with the British AI narrator?
Revisado: 11-11-24
This story takes place in the US - it specifically names Manhattan, Philadelphia, and other eastern coast locations - so why the AI narrator has a British accent is beyond me.....
While the story flips between the late 1800's and present day - I found some of the story droned on.... connections... IMO could have moved along faster with character building and skipped over many of the mental health concerns.
This 10.5 hour story, IMO could have been better delivered in 6-7 hours

I experience a pull so deep and so undeniable, that when I look up and meet the eyes of a waitress, our gazes lock. Recognition sparks between us. In an instant, I’m sure. This woman is mine. I can tell my parents sense the connection, too. But judging by their expressions, they know something I don’t. Like me, they’re aware she’s special. But the fear in their eyes tells me she’s the last person on Earth they want to be my mate...

how to proceed????
Revisado: 11-11-24
I'm a bit torn - Did I like the book? - Yes, Was it too long and could have been shorter? - Hell yes!
The story line started out like a Cinderella story but turned into soooo much more - the character development was well done but the 26.5 hours of listening could have been cut in half.
In addition - *spoiler alert* - I didn't have a problem with the villain getting away making way for book 2 but I didn't appreciate the "hook" as some might call it,...heading to the moles house and the book ending without knowing who the mole was after 26.5 hours.

UGH - more Christian Propoganda
Revisado: 10-14-24
The story line had promise - I REALLY wish Audible would flag a story based on Christian Propaganda - I mean seriously - They'll identify LGBTQ+, horror - etc - why can't Audible ensure we know this info going in - before we start listening or sometimes buying a book -
If there is a market for this - great - identify it! It's a good thing this book was for free, otherwise I'd be asking for my credit back based on poor representation.

Shadows of the Past Bk 4
Revisado: 03-18-24
I love this series and I'm sad that it's the last in the series - I wouldn't call this a cozy - it's a murder mystery that is so well written - It would capture everyone from 13 to 100 years of age that enjoys murder mysteries and falls for it's characters. There is no smut, and no swearing and I don't usually seek out either, nor do I care when the story adds either - but WOW, the character development and intrigue had me listening to the entire series in 2 days -that's how much I enjoyed it!
Virtual voice - was the only down side to this amazing story. My problem with virtual voice is, some words are pronounced properly and sarcasm is totally lost in conversation - lastly expressions like "tomato / to-mat-toe" are lost on virtual voice.
We all know Misty Raven is hiding something in book one but as I followed Misty along, I wanted to be her friend and confidant. She's strong, independent, yet not overtly -
This is my favorite murder mystery series I've listen to this year - hope to see more from Jenny Elaine - I'm hoping for more contemporary murder mystery stories like this from Jenny Elaine - I'm sad the series is over
