Gross and funny
Revisado: 11-18-24
This story is GROSS but can't say I wasn't warned. I can't stand the virtual narrator Audible selections. I keep giving them a try.
The virtual narrator in this one is hilarious, especially when cussing or using sexual profanity.

So repetitive!
Revisado: 11-18-24
The virtual voice really took away from my ability to follow this story. The virtual narrator voice about put me to sleep and narration used the three name moniker Winnie Ruth Judd in practically every sentence. Really annoying. If you're interested in this story, I suggest getting the information from another source.

Horrifying and Fascinating
Revisado: 11-13-24
I have been watching true crime shows for many years and happened on this Audible presentation. Surprisingly, never before had I heard of John Meehan. This story repeatedly sent chills up my spine. I commend the people involved for being so brave and telling their stories about this evil being. I am so sorry they had to go through that in their lives. I found it so fascinating though listening to the bonus episodes and hearing a professional's take on this monster. The most fascinating was the last one #8 where she rates his traits and comes to the conclusion he was 100% a psychopath. Truly frightening.

Revisado: 08-23-24
For a story this short, I would have thought it would get to the plot quicker. Got to the Trump bashing before I could understand what it's about. Stopped at that point. Cannot stand when a writer does that. GO TRUMP 2024!!

"I am a sick man...I am a spiteful man", a nameless voice cries out. And so, from underground, emerge the passionate confessions of a suffering man; the painful self-examination of a tormented soul; the bristling scorn of a lonely individual who has become one of the greatest anti-heroes in all literature.

Incomprehensible rambling
Revisado: 03-14-24
Thought I would try Dostoevsky as he is highly regarded in literature. Reading the other reviews here, people are raving about this book. I listened to chapter 1 twice and moved on to chapter 2. Even with Sparknotes to help me understand, I could not follow this book. Rarely, do I not finish a book I've started. Unfortunately, I cannot get into this and it's just not for me. Disappointed. Glad others enjoyed it. Moving on...

I like Somerset Maugham, but couldn’t listen to this. The audio went in and out, the accents made it even more difficult and there are multiple characters- didn’t know who was who. Disappointed.

Munndane
Revisado: 11-08-23
Another celebrity thinks her life is extraordinary, enough to write about it. Good thing she included lots of #$^$ language as to make it even more Munndane. My life at 13 was way more interesting than hers. I only listened to blow off the last 10 minutes of the work day. Should have kept working.

Historia
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

This story has everything - suspense, horror, sci fi, drama, romance, murder and beautifully written. Best part was Dan Stevens narration. Best I’ve heard of all the books I’ve listened to. He added so much to my enjoyment of this book. Superb reading and use of voices for each character. Highly recommend this classic with Dan Stevens.

Historia
"If there’s a lesson to be learned, it’s that logic is the sworn enemy of grief," writes Halimah Marcus, co-editor of Electric Literature, in her introduction to “Firewood," a hilarious and devastating story by J. Robert Lennon. "When the narrator’s wife (expectedly) leaves him, too devastated to admit the obvious, he concocts an impossible explanation for her disappearance. All I’ll say is that it involves the woodpile. The invented story is more horrible than the truth, but somehow easier to manage."
