Historia
Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children.

performance was good, book was terrible.
Revisado: 11-18-23
I expect better from Mr. King. I have read better. To hold this as the pinnacle of his work is an insult to the man. It isn't scary, it isn't a good coming of age, the woman is nothing more than a sex doll, children are constantly being sexualized, it is dull, and you only grew to hate and loathe every character.
This holds the new title of second worst book I have ever read. Fanfiction included.

Revisado: 08-20-23
if you have made it this far, then clearly you believe the series is worth reading. more clearly, you will enjoy this sequel. Which is more of the same. Monsters, romance, Warthrop being abusive, and devious humans along with some pondering of the human condition.
Well worth the read.

Right-wing reductionist trash
Revisado: 06-03-23
Other reviews have covered the why better than me, but this book is a complete joke or an argument and offers no insights.
The narration was poor with bad cuts, inconsistent volume and some bizarre pronunciations.

Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.

Pop-science smut
Revisado: 05-10-23
Not great. The author tries to bill this book as some grand history of humanity, but instead it comes off as Fisher's First Philosphy. The author thinks their basic musings on life are at all profound and ends on a chapter that should've been called: "I just watched the movie called Gataca! It blew my mind!"

Historia
Rick Yancey’s first gothic suspense tale, The Monstrumologist, earned him a prestigious Michael L. Printz Award. The second installment of this acclaimed series, Curse of the Wendigo, finds young Will Henry on the hunt for a supernatural beast plaguing New England in the late 1800s. Will and his mentor, the domineering Dr. Warthrop, are enlisted to help the doctor’s former fiancée. It seems her husband has been lost in the Canadian wilderness.

Revisado: 04-28-23
Another great entry in to the Monstrumologist series. This particular entry dives more in to the characters, rather than the creature? They face. If your main attraction to the first novel was the creature feature, you may find this book a bit of a slog.

Historia
Worn out after decades of packing steel and raising hell, Viv, the orc barbarian, cashes out of the warrior’s life with one final score. A forgotten legend, a fabled artifact, and an unreasonable amount of hope lead her to the streets of Thune, where she plans to open the first coffee shop the city has ever seen. However, her dreams of a fresh start filling mugs instead of swinging swords are hardly a sure bet. Old frenemies and Thune’s shady underbelly may just upset her plans. To finally build something that will last, Viv will need some new partners, and a different kind of resolve.

Cozy, low-stakes palate cleanser
Revisado: 04-12-23
This book makes a fantastic gap filler between large, more emotionally taxing novels. as many other reviews point out, the book has a lot of cliches, and familiar D&D esque world building.
All of it seems to be done on purpose, however, and is leaned in to. the whole point is to give the reader something familiar enough they can just relax and enjoy. For that, it is worth the credit.
Narration was pretty good too. I'm used to much worse from author-narration.

Is a fight against equality and for privilege a fight for religious supremacy? Andrew L. Seidel, a constitutional attorney and author of the critically acclaimed book The Founding Myth: Why Christian Nationalism Is Un-American, dives into the debate on religious liberty, the modern attempt to weaponize religious freedom, and the Supreme Court's role in that “crusade.” Seidel examines some of the key Supreme Court cases of the last thirty years.

A Solid and Strong Argument
Revisado: 04-03-23
This book presents a clear and obvious danger to everything we hold dear and central to the idea of America. The take over of the religious right is real. this book shows that it is real in a clear, obvious way using legality and little emotional language.
Actually, for my taste it was too gentle with religion. If you already believe this book's thesis, there won't be much for you to learn here, but it may help you get your own logic and argument formed better.
if ypu don't believe this book's thesis, then you are the person that should read this book. Open-minded and willing to entertain an idea you don't believe you should try this book out.

This is terrible, low quality fanfiction
Revisado: 03-16-23
I don't feel like typing out a long review with my thumbs but essentially the characters didn't feel like themselves, the new character felt like a self insert Mary Sue, the narration from each character's perspective all sounded the same, the pacing was slow and plodding, and there were enormous amounts of repetition of things we have already been told in a way that feels like you're trying to increase your word count for an essay.
I wasn't aware of the author's reputation prior to this novel, but I understand now. I will avoid her works going forward.

I usually enjoy this kind of thing
Revisado: 06-11-20
As someone who liked the Alien Audio dramas, who listens to King Falls AM and listened to wolf 359 back when it was still running I expected to enjoy this a lot more. I got two chapters in before I realized I wasn't invested, couldn't keep track of what was going on, and didn't care about the story nor felt scared at all.
And yes, I used Headphones. It was a decent attempt, but the creators of this need more practice in the medium.
