Historia
In a world where elemental magic has disappeared and drought has plagued the land for a century, only one woman has the power to create water. This is the story of a woman held captive by a cruel king, until a mysterious warrior arrives with the chance of rescue . . . This is the story of a woman’s journey to find her way back home, a journey that unveils the true extent of her power and the weight of responsibility that comes with it . . . But above all, this is the story of a woman falling unexpectedly in love—a love that could be the most transformative, or most destructive, of all.

AI narration was okay but not great. Still, the story was wonderful and the narration didn’t ruin it.

Obnoxious MFC
Revisado: 12-26-24
The story is a cool idea, there are parts of it I really like. But the main female character is atrocious. She’s mean, she’s reckless, she’s stupid, and of course she has two men in love with her.

Historia
Sorcha has spent her life helping raise her many siblings but now finally has the chance to seek her own adventures. At least, she did, before she was snatched from her horse and peddled by slavers. Taken far from home, she's brought to the worst place imaginable—the craggy western mountains infested with brutal, brutish orcs. All humans know to fear them and stay away, and now she's been sold to the cruelest clan chief of them all. But the first orc she meets is nothing like the stories. He's gentle. He frees her.

Great narrator!
Revisado: 11-23-24
First, the female narrator did a really nice job. Very impressed! The male narrator was also good and had a nice deep voice. I just really liked how she spoke for the FMC and MMC when it was a FMC chapter. br />
Prose - Loved it.
Romance - Precious but obnoxious too
MMC - Big strong softy
FMC - Strong & multifaceted
Drama - External and internal, Internal drama was the same old failure to communicate and blind spots to what’s obvious to everyone else which I really don’t like. It’s a cheap way to add drama to a story.
Delivery - Meh, I feel like the author didn’t stay on theme. It’s got a campy, fairytale vibe for most of it, by that I mean clear cut good and bad guys, characters who are the strongest, the hardest working, always happy, always supportive, characters who do the morally right thing even though it costs them. That sort of thing. And it’s cute, I don’t mind that, but it sort of clashes with the dark slave trade/rape part of the story, not to mention physical part of the relationship…
Spicy Stuff - Way too much. Graphic but so unrealistic that it’s not enjoyable. Nobody has sex several times in a row morning and night basically every day. No one cums that much either. And it’s so repetitive. Oh, and don’t forget that they don’t mind being overheard by dad. That was weird.
Basically, there were parts of the story that I really wish were in a better book. I can see why people like it, there are things about it that are precious, but the rest is kind of wonky and the constant sex was very not my thing (and this is coming from a reader who likes spicy books).

Wrong choice for male narrator
Revisado: 11-19-24
I hate to complain about a perfectly fine narrator, but he was a terrible choice for Dante. Made Dante come off as a frat boy vs king of the underworld. I think I would have enjoyed this one better by reading it the old fashion way.

The story was fine, solid three stars. The narrator had a nice voice and a lovely accent, but she chose to accentuate and pause in the wrong places nearly the entire time.

Unexpectedly Delightful
Revisado: 02-14-24
I’d passed this book up several times because the cover isn’t particularly appealing to me. But it kept getting recommended so I tried it. It was a surprisingly, adorable love story. Really pure and sweet set against quite a bit of violence and political drama. Weird to be sure, but in a really good way.

Stressed in a good way!
Revisado: 01-29-24
This was an intense and action packed read/listen. Definitely one of those books that requires your full attention, but worth the investment! The world building was fascinating and unique. I really liked that the story was told from the perspective of whichever character was important for that part of the story, and not just the main characters. Obviously, it centered more around the main characters, but there were some medium characters whose perspectives were used to tell the story too. The characters were so well written! It feels like you really get to know them, the good, the bad and the ugly. This isn’t a light read. It’s dark and intense, but in the way that gets you hooked and wanting more! Also, the narrator was fantastic!

Historia
As the captain of a schooner catering to the elite on the Caribbean Seas, Sebastian Stark does his best to avoid any human encounters. Interacting with people isn't his thing, and he prefers the company of a bottle of vodka, a shot glass, and maybe a whore. There's no doubt he's hiding from a checkered past, but he does well keeping everything to himself...until the night his schooner capsizes, and he's stuck on a life raft with one of the passengers. Raine's young, she's cute, and Bastian would probably be into her if he wasn't suffering from alcohol withdrawal.

So bad, it was funny
Revisado: 09-27-23
I read transcendence by the same author. That book was very sweet. I would never have guessed this book was written by the same person. It felt like a John Cena or Vin Diesel movie. The tiny woman needed rescuing by the big strong man. But he also need rescuing from himself and his self destructive anger. I listened to the whole thing because it was entertaining, but not in a good way. So many tropes. The performance was fine. Honestly, it was probably read as intended. I have a problem with the male version of the girl’s voice. It sounded mocking but that could just be because the author wrote really shitty lines for her that seemed dumb and could easily be interpreted as mocking. It could also just be that it’s hard to do a female sounding voice as a man. I don’t know. The point is, I don’t wanna dock the narrator for potentially doing exactly as he was instructed. It just felt like a dumb action movie.

A lot of nothing
Revisado: 07-18-23
A lot of nothing. Over explaining and filler. Author reminded readers of things that happened in the previous books way too much. Some story lines were left lacking while the main character had the same internal battle over and over and over again. Disappointing.
