This story was not as interesting as the first in this series, but it introduced characters that returned in the third in this series. I am not a fan of virtual voice, not at all.

The story was an enjoyable little mystery. Virtual AI narration was dry, flat, with mispronuntion of words and abbreviations. The narration was soporific.

Disappointing narration
Revisado: 08-30-24
This was an intriguing story,0 and good mystery to solve. The narration, however, was flat in many segments, had trouble with pronunciation of some words, and frequently mis-read acronyms. If I listened when I went to bed, I was asleep from the droning within 10 minutes.

The story was just OK, and plot was thin. The virtual voice narration was flat and without drama or feeling. I will not buy any audible book with virtual voice, ever again.

A cant-put-down tale of human nature.

The tapestry of ethics, morality, values, greed and other human foibles made this a great read. Narration by the author was surprisingly excellent.

Historia
Cody Hoyt, while a brilliant cop, is an alcoholic struggling with two months of sobriety when his mentor and AA sponsor Hank Winters is found burned to death in a remote mountain cabin. At first it looks like the suicide of a man who's fallen off the wagon, but Cody knows Hank better than that. Sober for fourteen years, Hank took pride in his hard-won sobriety and never hesitated to drop whatever he was doing to talk Cody off a ledge. When Cody takes a closer look at the scene of his friend's death, it becomes apparent that foul play is at hand.

Disappointing after Joe Pickett series
Revisado: 03-19-21
I had to wonder why you chose to have the hero a washed up, out of control, alcoholic that continually screwed up. You did manage to hide the bad guys until three quarters of the way through the book. The end gave me some hope for Cody so I will give book 2 a start but may not finish it.
