Historia
In 2017, a routine network television investigation led to a story only whispered about: one of Hollywood’s most powerful producers was a predator, protected by fear, wealth, and a conspiracy of silence. As Farrow drew closer to the truth, shadowy operatives, from high-priced lawyers to elite war-hardened spies, mounted a secret campaign of intimidation, threatening his career, following his every move, and weaponizing an account of abuse in his own family.

Boring
Revisado: 10-17-23
I thought I would hear accounts of all of Weinstein's crimes. Instead,, it is a litany of details on how all the execs at NBC were terrified of this fat blowhard. The worst part, however, is Farrow's attempt at accents which are simply laughable, comical and ridiculous. Perhaps, because he's Woody's and Mia's son, he thinks he's especially talented or something. I have no idea but someone should have told him he was making a complete fool of himself. Also, he claims to be a writer. Does a real writer not know that "wreaked" is not a word?! My god. The word is "wrought," Ronan. Learn it. He mentions a few of my friends in this book and misrepresents them terribly. I cannot take this guy seriously.

She tells with bravery and dignity for the first time the story of how she and her mother were betrayed and sold into sexual slavery in China and forced to suffer terrible psychological and physical hardship before they finally made their way to Seoul, South Korea - and to freedom.

Historia
He was a hard-working small business owner, an Army veteran, an attentive lover, and a doting father. But he was also something more, something sinister. A master of deception, he was a rapist, arsonist, and bank robber, and a new breed of serial killer, one who studied other killers to perfect his craft. He methodically buried kill-kits containing his tools of murder years before returning to reclaim them.

Bad narration
Revisado: 04-11-23
Of course, Israel Keyes' story is a good one for us crime buffs but this book is very hard to listen to because of the narrator. Many mispronunciations and he has this style of saying a few words... then a pause (in the most peculiar palces) and then a few words...and then a pause, etc. He repeatedly says "Keyeses" when dealing with the possessive, instead of plain old "Keyes," as it should be. But the pauses are the most annoying aspect here. Don Kline's massacre of the text was so distracting, it made what should have been a really riveting book a chore to get through. It's one of the worst narrations I've ever heard.

Historia
As a child growing up in North Korea, Hyeonseo Lee was one of millions trapped by a secretive and brutal communist regime. Her home on the border with China gave her some exposure to the world beyond the confines of the Hermit Kingdom and, as the famine of the 1990s struck, she began to wonder, question and realise that she had been brainwashed her entire life. Given the repression, poverty and starvation she witnessed surely her country could not be, as she had been told, 'the best on the planet'?

Awful narrator
Revisado: 03-25-23
I thought this was going to be a story about N. Korean prison camps. Sadly, it's not that but still a good story. The problem is the narrator. For some odd reason, whenever she's quoting someone in the story, she SCREAMS the text. Like when she speaks in the voice of the author, she's fine but as I said, in certain parts of the story, she simply shouts for no particular reason. It's VERY strange. I like to listen to audiobooks as I go to sleep and with this one, she keeps waking me up with her yelling. Really, really unpleasant. I will NEVER get another book with this bizarre narrator!

Historia
When Chris Bryson was discovered nude and severely beaten stumbling down Charlotte Street in Kansas City in 1988, police had no idea they were about to discover the den of one of the most sadistic American serial killers in recent history. This is the true story of Robert Berdella, nicknamed by the media the Kansas City Butcher, who from between 1984 and 1988 brutally raped, tortured, and ultimately dismembered six young male prostitutes in his unassuming home on a quiet street in Kansas City.

Narrator makes so many mistakes
Revisado: 03-17-23
This is a really riveting story and kept my attention, no problem BUT the narrator. Oh my gosh. Says "prostate" instead of "prostrate." Says "exscaped" instead of "escaped" about 25 times. He says "quirrel" (rhymes with sqiuirrel) instead of "quarrel."
And he speaks like an automoton, accenting really weird word choices-- "someone he went to school WITH." It's just odd and very distracting. The mispronunciations are the worst though. LIke once or twice, you can forgive but this happens so many times, I lost count. There's also a mistake where the same fraction of a sentence is repeated twice--he didn't check his recording well enough. I'll never buy another book narrated by this guy.

Love this book!
Revisado: 08-23-22
This book is wonderful and goes into great detail about what these children and the other victims endured. People here have complained about the detailed account but I think it needed to be written that way so we could see what monsters these parents really were. I usually don't like women narrators but Karen Peakes tries to do a really good job of doing men's voices, children's voices, etc. She pulls it off most of the time and an "A" for effort! Her intonations are spot on--and can be frightening--which is exactly what you want in a book like this. Also, it's pretty obvious she read the whole book before narrating it. I was quite impressed with her and now, will buy other books she has narrated.

Historia
During the early 1970s, more than three dozen teenage boys went missing from the working-class neighborhood of Houston Heights, in the south of Texas. The parents of a number of these boys received strange postcards from their sons, telling them that they were fine and that they had found jobs somewhere else in the state, anywhere from Dallas to Austin. Then, in August 1973, the Houston Police Department made a shocking discovery; something that would later become known as the Houston Mass Murders.

Not so good
Revisado: 08-23-22
The only kind of books I listen to are true crime books, so I have a lot of experience with them. This one is laughable at times. One of the funniest phrases was "dead corpse" and another, the word "strangulated." LOL Which, of course, is not a word. Anyway, the story is interesting just because of the killer's sheer number of victims but the narration--OMG. The guy talks in little bursts of three or four words, using very strange inflections. It's so distracting, you can barely focus on the story! The man is in need of serious elocution lessons. Do NOT buy a book with this guy (Michael Goodrick) narrating. Trust me. If you want an amazing reader, look for books narrated by Kevin Pearce. I buy books solely based on his involvement with them. He's that good.

Not wild about the narration
Revisado: 08-15-18
I really liked this book but the narrator, I felt, didn't read the lines in the natural way a kid would say them. He's great with the different voices, however! But yah, I found him distracting and sometimes, I'd be thinking about him instead of what was going on in the story! That shouldn't happen. And where's the chapter with the mummy?! Audible? What's your answer to this? Maybe we should all get a partial refund since part of the book is missing!
