Historia
On a brisk autumn day, a 13-year-old boy stands on the shores of the gray Atlantic, near a silent amusement park and a fading ocean resort called the Alhambra. The past has driven Jack Sawyer here: His father is gone, his mother is dying, and the world no longer makes sense. But for Jack everything is about to change. For he has been chosen to make a journey back across America - and into another realm. One of the most influential and heralded works of fantasy ever written, The Talisman is an extraordinary novel of loyalty, awakening, terror, and mystery.

People said it’s boring. Not at all…
Revisado: 03-19-25
Not at all. But I’ll admit that the first few chapters were very slow. Luckily, they flew by when listening as audiobooks, thanks to Mueller performance. If I were to read a book, I bet I might give up at the beginning. But the story unfolded and sped to its highs in a very short time. There’s no gore nor sexual scenes so I’d recommend this book to my children too. It’s a pretty good adventure and fantasy-like story and if you go in thinking of The Dark Tower, you are not wrong too!

Historia
Welcome to Desperation. Once a thriving copper-mining town in the middle of the Nevada desert, Desperation is now eerily abandoned. It's the last place that travellers like the Carver family, bound for vacation, and writer Johnny Marinville, astride his Harley, would expect to be stopped and charged. But Desperation still has a local cop - a unique regulator who patrols the wilderness highway. The secrets buried in Desperation are as terrifying as the forces summoned to encounter them.

You get used to King
Revisado: 01-01-25
But, compare him, as a narrator, to others who read his books, King is no where near them. His tone is pretty flat and while he tried to use other voice for another character, he didn’t do a good job at it. The story is ok. Nothing great but it is a gory and disturbing tale. His later work, The Outsider, which I feel has the same “creature” as the one in Desperation, is more flashed out and better paced.

It’s a good sequel for Hyperion but…
Revisado: 11-25-24
After listening to the whole book and upon looking back, I wonder if the book is too overly long. The story could be told in half the length. I don’t understand the role the Shrike played. Is there any point to the pilgrims adventure in the Valley of the Tombs or are they just fillers? The part about the Ousters attack and how the Hegemony of Men responded was good. I just don’t understand how the pilgrims part in Hyperion added to the story? The narrator is excellent! He narrated Hyperion and so he is a welcome sound in this second book.

On the world called Hyperion, beyond the law of the Hegemony of Man, there waits the creature called the Shrike. There are those who worship it. There are those who fear it. And there are those who have vowed to destroy it. In the Valley of the Time Tombs, where huge, brooding structures move backward through time, the Shrike waits for them all.

This epic world is told through the view of 6 pilgrims. The vastness of this world is mind boggling and it rivals LoTR in terms of scope and reach. I love it!

Not world building. Excellent “Universe building”. This must be the best fleshed out Sci Fi Universe I’ve ever read. I love this book and audiobook. Very good narration as well, atmospheric, clear, concise, not boring.

Historia
Since his wife died, Ralph Roberts has been having trouble sleeping. Each night he wakes up a bit earlier until he's barely sleeping at all. During his late-night walks, he observes some strange things going on in Derry, Maine. He sees colored ribbons streaming from people's heads, two strange little men wandering around town after dark, and more. He begins to suspect that these visions are something more than hallucinations brought on by lack of sleep.

The reviews are true!
Revisado: 12-20-23
Firstly, the book itself - it's about a 70 year old man having insomnia. And he sees things. Something about to happen in the town of Derry when the pro life marches against the pro choice. After 10 Chapters (according to Kindle book, that’s 300 pages, 39% into the book), the story did not go anywhere. It's very slow.
Then, the audiobook narrator probably didn't make it any more exciting. He seemed bored reading the book. It's a hard struggle listening to him to get through the story. I'd think that if this story was read by another narrator, maybe it would be more tolerable (I have a few good narrators of Stephen King’s books in my mind that I can name)
Lastly, the audiobook production - not sure if it is done by Audible or another production house - it is really bad. I read reviews of these bad production and thought I could ignore them. If the story was good, sure. But the audio production exacerbate the overall experience of this book. Lousy metal music that came during the last paragraph of a chapter, drowning out the narrator's voice; Incorrect chaptering, for instance jumping to the book mark for Chapter 11 (which is Part 2 of the book) in the audiobook does not start Chapter 11. It starts somewhere in the last one third of Chapter 10. Maybe the production guy fell asleep editing this book too. I don’t blame him.

Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children.

Steven Weber nailed it
Revisado: 08-02-23
IT was recently (July 2023) voted by Redditors as the number 1 Stephen King novel. But, to me, it was Steven Weber who is the star in this audiobook. I’ve listened to other narrators who read King’s story but Weber have to be the only one who laughed, sneered, stuttered, sighed, haunted, screamed and threw himself into the story. The characters came so alive and gave me a different perspective from just reading the novel. I wish Weber had narrated more King’s book. Numero Uno!

Revisado: 05-22-23
Of all The Dark Tower books, this is my favourite. And Frank Mueller is so good. I love how well he did Roland and Eddie. I alternate between listening and then reading the Kindle and one picks off where one stops. What a great experience.

Historia
Christine was eating into his mind, burrowing into his unconscious. Christine, blood red, fat, and finned, was 20. Her promise lay all in her past. Greedy and big, she was Arnie's obsession, a '58 Plymouth Fury. Broken down but not finished. There was still power in her - a frightening power that leaked like sump oil, staining and corrupting. A malign power that corroded the mind and turned ownership into possession.

Revisado: 05-21-23
I’ve read Christine twice. I’ve listened to other audiobooks before and Graham’s performance is incomparable and so outstanding. The way he voiced Arnie, with that slight stuttering voice, was amazing! I’d highly recommend this audiobook even if you’ve read the book before. Totally different level.

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: You may have thought the movie was scary, but this is pure Stephen King as it was meant to be experience – performed frighteningly well by Campbell Scott. First published in 1977, The Shining quickly became a benchmark in the literary career of Stephen King. This tale of a troubled man hired to care for a remote mountain resort over the winter, his loyal wife, and their uniquely gifted son slowly but steadily unfolds as secrets from the Overlook Hotel's past are revealed.

Scary and terrifying
Revisado: 03-12-23
This book is my first Audible/audiobook and I’m not a native English speaker. I thought I might find it hard to listen to someone who have a different accent. Yet, I find that it was easy to listen and understand Mr. Scott. The Shining is a perfect first audiobook for any Stephen King fan. Scary, terrifying and Mr. Scott performance brought the horror of Overlook to life! I love it.
