Historia
The new mystery series for fans of Agatha Christie and cozy crime. Penny Küfer has finally realized her lifelong dream by beginning her first week of training as a detective. But instead of the hoped-for well wishes from friends and family, she finds herself disinherited by her class-conscious mother and dumped by her grasping fiancé. There is only one consolation left to her: the long-dreamed-of trip on the Occident Express, the most luxurious train ever to run on Europe's rails. But even before the ambitious young sleuth can enjoy her first glass of champagne, she finds herself with a ...

The story might have been interesting but the choppiness of the voice rhythm did not make a pleasant listening experience.

AI voice not for the win
Revisado: 03-25-25
Terrible narration. Wooden, staccato, zero nuance. I was surprised, frankly. if you are going to mimic a voice and could pick any, why would you make it so that it completely leaches out the good of the story?

A fantastic read with a great blend of action, beauty, and awe, with a few good villains and surprises for good measure. Also Scott Brick…do I really have to say more?

If only I had stopped at book 2, I wouldn’t have to had to endure and now remember this horrible ending. What shabby treatment of the protagonists and the readers.

Historia
The tide is turning against the colonists in the Revolutionary War, and 18-year-old Elizabeth Morris cannot sit by idly. Quietly disdainful of her Tory parents, who drag her along to society events and welcome a British soldier into their home during their occupation of New York City, Elizabeth decides to take matters into her own hands. She realizes that, as a young woman, no one around her believes that she can comprehend the profound implications of being a nation at war - she is, effectively, invisible. And she can use this invisibility to her advantage.

Sketchy ending
Revisado: 09-07-21
The idea was solid but I’m not a fan of the author creating a totally different fate for a real person. She said it’s to include more women in the telling of history but I don’t see how ignoring the fact that she survived is going to make important women in history be portrayed more prominently.

That accent is like nails on a blackboard
Revisado: 06-23-21
I really tried to forgive the horrendous version of a Cajun accent but it’s just too painful. Not an audiobook for someone from Cajun county. Ouch!

Historia
Boston expat Maura Donovan has been getting accustomed to Irish living, complete with an inherited house and a pub named Sullivan’s. But now, her mother has returned - and she’s brought Maura’s half-sister in tow. To make matters more confusing, a handful of Cork University students are knocking on Maura’s door, asking about a mystical fairy fort that happens to be located on Maura’s piece of land. Then one of the students disappears after a day of scoping out the fort, and Maura uncovers a decades-old corpse.

I keep trying
Revisado: 02-19-20
I love the idea of these characters and story lines. Fool that I am, I keep buying the books. But honestly the characters are insufferable. I spend the whole time muttering out load “oh just SHUT UP!”
Maura is possibly the most annoying character ever half developed. It’s not just that she is such a glass half empty person, it’s that she’s a “IS the glass half full? I’m just a girl from Baaaston who has no idea whether or not glasses are supposed to be half full in Ireland. Should I want the glass to be full? Maybe the glass is supposed to be only filled halfway. Is there some kind of rule in Ireland where there should be 2” left at the top?”.
Then there is the fact that she has absolutely no interest in the fact that she inherited land, a bar and a house yet has absolutely NO interest in looking at it? Really? She has a constant ridiculous inner and outer dialogue that is simplistic and goes no where. The only reason I struggle through them is that I can rewrite them in my own mind into something.
I could rant longer but will spare you all.
