Interesting stories, but…
Revisado: 04-10-25
Referred to patients as “they” throughout, with no age or gender. Medically speaking, that’s ridiculous. Book one was ok, but book 2 was barely listenable. I’m ok with the AI narration, but many medical terms were minced.

Really liked the book up to chapter 8.

Disliked one-sided political diagnostics and judgement, while neglecting commentary on the narcissism rampant in academia.

I read her book 2 years ago. How refreshing to hear factual research relevant to our health. Have been doing keto/carnivore for past 3 months. Reversed my TTDM and lost weight. Feel great at 76!

Too much "HGTV" stuff in the middle.
Revisado: 10-30-16
Would you try another book from Nora Roberts and/or Shannon McManus?
Yes, I'll try another Nora Roberts, but maybe a sample first. The writing is great, but then started wandering off...Thought the narration was very good. Looked up other books with this narrator, may try one.
What could Nora Roberts have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
There was no need for this book to be 14 hours! The premise was great, but the listener can take only so much extraneous information, especially in a mystery/thriller book. Stay with the basic story!
Have you listened to any of Shannon McManus’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No
Was The Obsession worth the listening time?
I guess not. I was skipping through parts, wanting to get on to my next book.
Any additional comments?
Again, the story premise was great, it just got really slow. Could have been told in 9-10 hours.

Melodramatic!
Revisado: 03-31-16
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No. The plot could have been believable, but there were too many silly twists and turns, making the book complicated and way too long.
What could Kimberly McCreight have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Less detailed reading of Facebook and texts, less gratuitous sex and melodrama with the teen relationships, less verbiage.
Which character – as performed by Khristine Hvam – was your favorite?
Umm. None, though the narration was very well done!
Do you think Reconstructing Amelia needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No.
Any additional comments?
I wish I had known that most of the book was about teenagers, I wouldn't have read it. Maybe I'll stick with nonfiction.
BTY: I think the writing was very good, but I didn't like the story.

Historia
Every day, three times a day, the students march in two straight lines, singing praises to Kim Jong-il and North Korea: Without you, there is no motherland. Without you, there is no us. It is a chilling scene, but gradually Suki Kim, too, learns the tune and, without noticing, begins to hum it. It is 2011, and all universities in North Korea have been shut down for an entire year, the students sent to construction fields - except for the 270 students at the all-male Pyongyang University of Science and Technology (PUST).

Disorganized!
Revisado: 12-30-14
Would you try another book from Jean Ballios and/or Jonathan Kierman?
Never.
What could Jean Ballios have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Organize the information and improve sentence structure. Eliminate the use of "etcetera". Validate your sources. "You get Alzheimer's when you're over 65. You can get Down Syndrome and Progeria". What? "In some instances, the patient may appear to hack up his or her guts before dying." Really? Never heard that one before. The book is full of odd comments.
What didn’t you like about Jonathan Kierman’s performance?
I admire his endurance and ability to read the material as though it made sense.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Anger. I am educated on Alzheimer's and was hoping to enhance my knowledge.
Any additional comments?
Wow! Audible please listen to this book and you may decide it is not up to your standards.
