A very, very different story line for Wanda E Brunstetter books. Rebecca Gallagher narrated this book and I will never listen to another book narrated by her again. I have listened to a lot of Wanda E Brunstetter books and this one is by far the worst. It is repetitive and slow going. There were many parts that were just hard to believe.

At times the book was just plain boring and I almost stop listening to it half way through. This is NOT one of Wanda's better books.

The very last few sentences said by to by Vic's wife to Vic sounded as though she was making a speech before the United States Congress. The narrator seemed to feel she needed to make a speech in an unnatural tone of voice.

I do not recommend this book.

This book made be laugh, cry, angry and even made me see myself in Lulu at times (scary). I loved how the 3 women had been friends for 26 years through thick and thin and were always there for each other. I greatly appreciated the fact I was able to listen to this story without a single foul word. No cussing, no sex, no mention of nudity, etc. Just a good old fashion story of 3 women who had been friends for 26 years. It doesn't get any better than that.

As for the narrator, Linda Henning, she leaves much to be desired. There was rarely ever any change between any of the character's voices. While listening it made me think of my 6th grade teacher who would read to us for 30 minutes every day after the noon recess. Although she did have more inflection in her voice than this narrator. While I thoroughly enjoyed every word of this story I have no doubt another narrator or even several narrators would greatly improve the reading performance of this story. I hope the audible in this story is redone with new narrators so you are able to distinguish between the 3 female friends, their husbands, boyfriend and Lulu's 2 daughters.

I look forward to listening to another story by Ashley Farley that hopefully is not narrated by Linda Henning.

Another great book from Ginny Dye. The 2nd in this series and I can hardly wait to start the 3rd book in this series. Ginny Dye has made this time period of the Civil War come alive and I have always been extremely interested in the Civil War era. Her characters are so real I have begun to feel as if I know them personally. Miss Carrie Cromwell is an amazing young lady with a very strong character and belief in God. I love how this author brings God into her books with such ease and makes God so very personal to each person. One of my favorite parts was when Lt. Robert Borden told Miss Carrie Cromwell "I found God, and He showed me He loves me." What a beautiful description of God and how His love can change a person.
I am truly enjoying listening to these books, especially without having to listen or hear a book full of foul language and filled with sex. It is so refreshing to find books that are centered around good wholesome characters and above all, God. I pray Ginny Dye will continue to write more books for this series. Ginny, God bless you for your wonderful books and love of God.

The only thing I personally would like to see changed is the narration. I would like to have several people narrate these books with men narrating and singing the male voices and females narrating and singing the female voices, and one person narrating the rest of the story line of the book. Whoever has been singing the slaves songs has a fairly nice voice.

I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I love history and have always been interested in the Civil War period. I have been to Virginia several times, visited the plantations, went to Richmond, Virginia to the Confederate Whitehouse, visited the cemeteries of the Confederate and Union soldiers and saw the devastation the Civil War caused. I also saw some of the slave quarters 😞 and the beautiful homes of the plantation owners. I also have been to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and saw the reenactment of the Battle of Gettysburg. I will never understand how the people of this era drove their buggies to the battle site to watch the battle. It was such a grizzly battle and so very many innocent young men lost their lives. War is not to be glorified.
I greatly appreciated how the author, Ginny Dye, brings God into her books and makes him so very real. In this book, Storm Clouds Rolling In, I loved how the slave, Sarah, held her faith in God above everything else and taught the slave children about God and also taught Miss Carrie to examine her own heart and listen to God for the answers she was seeking. I found myself drawn to Miss Carrie, the plantation owner's daughter and the tenderness she felt towards her fathers slaves and later gave some of them letters to free passage. God surely works in mysterious ways.
This book kept me coming back for more and I certainly will be reading the next book in this series. If you love history then this is a book for you. It definitely is not slow or boring.

Not Carolyn Brown's Best Work

This book was too predictable and with little change in the story line from some of her other books. This book was narrated by Brittany Pressley who I am not fond of. The "voices" of the various people lack character and depth. All of Carolyn Brown's books narrated by Brittany Pressley lack a change in voices regardless of who the character is. All the men sound the same, young or old. The women have 3-4 different voices depending on the age of the character, but the older the woman, the more raspy and gruff her voice becomes. The old women sound like heavy smokers. Carolyn Brown needs to find someone other than Brittany Pressley to narrate her books and find some men to narrate the men's voices and find something other than "darlin" to call the women. Sadly, this book is not one of Carolyn Brown's better books. I was glad when it was finally over.

Being adopted and not finding my birth parents until I was an adult I could relate to this story, although my story didn't turn out as happy as Tessa's did.

I LOVED this book and the storyline. There was so much love and acceptance between the families involved.

Frankie and Ivy were a hoot. I would have loved to had a grandmother and aunt like those two. They were special and had a bond that is rare between friends.

I rarely read a book a second time, however, I could read this one at least a second time.

I really do wish the narrators would change up the voices more, especially with the men. All the men have that "sexy Western drawl" which in real life is rare to find. The women's voice are all the same in almost every book. The young "lead female" in the story has that soft southern drawl and the older women have the gravelly old drawl with the very old women having a gravelly old drawl and sounding like someone who has smoked her entire life.

It would be nice to mix up the voices of the various ages of the men and women to make them more believable and interesting

Every Texas cowboy I know most certainly does not have the heavy drawl and the manners of the men in these books.

Also, it would be nice if Carolyn Brown could drop the word "damn" from every other sentence. It gets rather tiring hearing damn this and damn that. Same goes for the Halle-damn-lujah.

All in all it was an enjoyable book and I highly recommended it to anyone over the age of 18 years old.

Good Clean Book - Enjoyable Reading

I truly enjoyed listening to this book, however, whoever is narratoring the LEAD MALE'S voice really MUST learn to change the guy's voice. Every leading guy's voice has a sexy Texas drawl to it and sounds like the LEAD guy in the last book. Most of the other male voices seem to change from book to book, but NOT the LEAD MALE'S voice.

I'd really enjoy hearing a different LEAD MALE'S VOICE in the various books. The OLDER MEN should sound OLDER. THE OLDER MEN who are GRANDFATHERS should sound like an older grandfatherly male.

The YOUNG LEAD FEMALE needs to sound YOUNG, INNOCENT, but with some experienced with men.

The other women should sound AGE APPROPRIATE, but NOT with DEEP voices that makes you wonder whether a man or woman is speaking. Grandma's should always have words of wisdom for their grandchildren and Mother's should always have words of wisdom for their children, especially their daughters.

They should remind their daughters to WATCH & LISTEN to HOW a MAN TALKS & TREATS HIS MAMA. If the GUY is consistently having to call HIS mama, ask her advice, set a date and time to talk to his mama EVERY WEEK, GO TO HIS MAMA'S HOUSE FOR SUPPER, that girl should RUN AS IF HER LIFE DEPENDS ON IT & NEVER LOOK BACK.

Fathers should give their SONS good sound advice on how to TREAT a WOMAN, HIS WIFE. ALWAYS REMEMBER HER birthday, their anniversary, Mother's Day, A Special gift at Christmas, and ALWAYS, ALWAYS PUT HIS WIFE FIRST! His mama comes LAST after HIS WIFE, their children, and the WIFE'S MAMA. IF the WIFE is HAPPY, EVERYONE IS HAPPY. The HUSBAND'S MAMA should NEVER, EVER BELITTLE or PUT HER SON'S WIFE DOWN or SPEAK ILL OF HER.

FAMILIES should ALWAYS GO TO CHURCH and SET GOOD EXAMPLES for THEIR CHILDREN!

I would love to see a Carolyn Browns' books longer than 25 chapters. So far every one of her books I've read are all 25 chapters.

The LEADING MALE needs to be from somewhere other than TEXAS, or OKLAHOMA. So far ALL the LEADING MALES have a SOUTHERN DRAWL and say "Yes ma'am," No ma'am," or "darling."

The books are to predictable when it comes to the LEADING MAN & WOMAN.

This book did have a bit of a twist to it with the LEADING FEMALE being a counselor to 3 spoiled bratty, juvenile delinquent s who thought the world revolved around them and the counselor's older sister who thought everyone should kiss her butt.

The book kept me entertained, but it wasn't to hard to figure out how it was going to end.

I truly enjoyed the story line and the characters. The story moved at a fast pace and kept me involved until the very last words.

It would have been much more realistic if they would have used a male narrator for the parts the men spoke. This female narrator voice was much to high even when she was speaking a male's part and it just didn't fit in with the characters. when she was speaking the Captain's part and trying to be gruff, it just didn't work. At times she spoke to fast when trying to convey urgency and it made the female narrator's voice have a "gravelly" tone to it which didn't fit the scenario. She did a fine job with the women's voices. I believe she would do a fantastic job narrating children's books.

The book itself was excellent and I can't wait to read the next one in the series.
