Historia
Ignorant of civilization and cautioned against its evils, nineteen-year-old Wren and her two sisters, Sage and Evie, were raised in off-the-grid isolation in a primitive cabin in upstate New York. When the youngest grows gravely ill, their mother leaves with the child to get help from a nearby town. And they never return. As months pass, hope vanishes. Supplies are low. Livestock are dying.

Absolutely couldn’t take Wren’s character. The way the narrator chooses to perform Wren’s frightened scenes is incredibly distracting and not proportional to what’s going on in the scene. I couldn’t do it anymore. Got about half way through.

Historia
"Ninety-five days, and then I'll be safe. I wonder whether the procedure will hurt. I want to get it over with. It's hard to be patient. It's hard not to be afraid while I'm still uncured, though so far the deliria hasn't touched me yet. Still, I worry. They say that in the old days, love drove people to madness. The deadliest of all deadly things: It kills you both when you have it and when you don't."

Mismatched music threw off my groove
Revisado: 03-09-21
The music at the end really threw me off. Honestly, completely took me out of the moment, and left me with a weird feeling. I really enjoyed the rest of the book.

I really enjoyed the story. Very interesting! The narrator has kind of a weird accent going on, but it’s not so horrible that I couldn’t finish it.

Revisado: 05-10-19
I listened to the Loup-Garou series first (which are great!). This volume tells us more about the supporting characters from that series. The world building is soo extensive. Really cool to get these characters’ back stories!

Not as bad as some say
Revisado: 09-25-17
I’ve read some really poor reviews for this audiobook. What sucks is the narrator is getting the short end of the stick.
I’m a narrator, so I do have a bit of insider information concerning this, if you will.
While Miranda’s voice IS annoying, the audiobook would not be available for sale unless the author approved it. All of it. Of course, minor details like the narrator voicing someone who only appears once or twice with a weird or annoying voice isn’t really relevant. And it wouldn’t be prudent to reject the entire audio because of it. But Miranda is a relatively major character. If the author didn’t like the way the narrator voiced her, you wouldn’t be hearing it this way. I get that Miranda’s voice is annoying. I totally get it and agree. If you look at who Miranda is, it makes sense why Ashley voiced her this way. She’s in high school, and her mommy and daddy are loaded. Her dad gives her anything and everything she wants. So it isn’t far fetched to think that she’s a bit bratty and spoiled. And if I were narrating this book, I’d do something similar with her voice. Not this loud and high pitched, but something similar nevertheless. It may be annoying, but it isn’t all the narrator’s fault.
