Historia
Two-time Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner was the second-most-googled person in 2023—and not for his impressive filmography. His searing portrayals on film ranged from an Iraq-based army bomb technician in The Hurt Locker and a Boston bank robber in The Town to a crooked Camden mayor in American Hustle before he became heir to the Jason Bourne franchise (The Bourne Legacy). Amongst other iconic roles, he also captured hearts as fan-favorite comic book marksman Hawkeye in seven Marvel films.

A number of struggles
Revisado: 05-02-25
It’s amazing he lived through the accident and seems to have recovered so well, given the extent of injury. Jeremy has a good voice and his narration adds a lot to the story. I’m glad the book isn’t too long because he’s quite repetitive about emotional concepts. Everything is love and mind of matter are clearly important to his recovery, but I found them tiring to hear over and over. I came away feeling Jeremy isn’t humble and can be pretty sanctimonious. Giving his family members “Renner talks”? Calm down Hawkeye.

Labeling, judging but no understanding
Revisado: 01-31-25
Jim’s virtue signaling rants detract from the story and fact sharing. Very little on the facts of the case. Some time is spent on the killers. Listeners are held hostage by Jim’s gun control agenda using an extreme example to say all citizens shouldn’t have the right to defend themselves beyond fists. He labels people who are suicidal as a hair away from being murderers. I can see Kathy rolling her eyes when Jim goes off.

Tone it down Jim
Revisado: 01-30-25
These are really interesting cases and I’m listening to learn more about the facts and science. Kathy is great and what she shares is helpful and appropriately dispassionate. Jim is too emotional and comes off as needing to signal his virtue by labeling and judging. I learn almost nothing from Jim’s ranting other than he thinks killers are bad people. Jim please teach us about the killers and why they do evil versus how we should feel about them.

Everyone should learn about crispr
Revisado: 05-19-24
I enjoyed learning about CRISPR technology and its wide applications. We’re living at a time where exciting and terrifying changes to our species will occur. Regarding the story, it didn’t feel as much about Jennifer Doudna as all the players and events around CRISPR. The author makes many diversions into race that seem to have little to do with the story beyond Watson’s comments on the subject. I could’ve done without the conspicuous virtue signaling and would’ve appreciated more discussion around the inequities that could impact all humans across race and gender that could result from genetic enhancement by those with means. Nevertheless, it’s a good read.

Historia
In October 1962, at the height of the Cold War, the United States and the Soviet Union appeared to be sliding inexorably toward a nuclear conflict over the placement of missiles in Cuba. Veteran Washington Post reporter Michael Dobbs has pored over previously untapped American, Soviet, and Cuban sources to produce the most authoritative book yet on the Cuban missile crisis.

High stakes
Revisado: 02-21-23
Great story with a lot of background. Narrator irritatingly mispronounces the word signal throughout the recording as sing-nall.
